The sun glimmers off the windows of towering skyscrapers, birds chirp in the air, people shuffle along the sidewalks on their way to work. It’s another day in New Chicago -- another day indeed. You wouldn’t guess that some people sit at home, glued to their televisions or computers, waiting for live updates regarding one of the biggest international meetings in recent history.
Five dollars to the person who can guess what it’s about.
On the docket for today: discussions on secure prisons for Metahumans, trials for Metahumans, the International Registry of Metahumans, and the recent disaster in the Xinjiang Province in China. Metahuman rights are merely a footnote in the wake of one of the most devastating metahuman-based attacks since the Rising. Who could care about the people that took over three-hundred lives last week? Who could stand and argue that they deserve ‘better treatment’?
Some people, but the council isn’t too bothered by those people. It’s not bothered by the actual people of New Chicago or New Philadelphia or anywhere. They’re bothered by what they think they should be bothered by. They’ll not decide anything today -- it’ll be a political deadlock like always, any realist worth his salt will tell you that -- but for some there’s hope and for others there’s fear.
Whatever happens, it’s sure to be interesting because it’s always interesting in a world of men and more.
