Later we saw #Metung from a boat: here are some of the waterfront houses. You wouldn’t guess that there was a major boatbuilding industry here until the 1980s (now a luxury development) and was a flying boat refuelling depot in WWII. We got our coffee (long wait, sadly not good) and walked along the western beach of the #Metung peninsula. There’s a little statue of the Charles Edward, an iron-hulled paddle steamer built in Scotland in 1864 for the journey from Melbourne to the Gippsland Lakes, a hazardous voyage she plied until 1876.
