mettamay day 31 : heart to heart

umm,, ok so i feel happy with what i made but im also a little embarrassed since im focusing this day for my ship :') for the last day of mettamay i drew this + made my first fanfic ever.. its a marieton oneshot. you can find the full story on my wattpad. my user is witchofsweets

somewhere at the exterior of Mariette's home, there was a secret garden where most of the echo flowers remain, but they were smaller and much quieter than the rest in Waterfall. there were glowing mushrooms and magical plants & flowers all around the garden. the place was dark but dim, peacefully quiet, a bit cold, but also wet; it is exactly how Mariette likes it. a perfect atmosphere. Mariette had been sitting on her knees in front of a pond and stared at her reflection in the water for a moment. she was tearing up. "why you are so stupid!!!" she cursed as she splashed the water where she saw her face and started to cry. Mettaton overheard this and said from behind, "darling..?"

Mariette gasped and whispered, "h-how did you get here!?"

"you left the gate open..... and from then on i faintly heard your sounds.." Mettaton blushed as he scratched the back of his head.

"oh."

they were both quiet for a while until Mettaton broke the silence, "whats wrong..? please talk to me, sweetie, you seem to be troubling yourself. unless...i did something wrong. im sorry."

Mariette reassured him, "n-no it's not you!! i promise! it's just....me." she said the last part very quietly.

"what do you mean?"

"what do you mean "what do i mean"?"

Mettaton stopped to think. and said, "well for one.. i recently noticed you have been putting yourself down lately.. you often don't give yourself a chance to speak or express your thoughts but i know you have something in your heart that you are keeping.. from mine. i have.. noticed you sometimes grow distant from me. so please.. talk to me heart-to-heart, angel."

those words. hearing Mettaton call Mariette 'angel' and such loving nicknames always makes Mariette's heart flutter and fill her insides with butterflies. she knows Mettaton calls everyone 'darling', but for some reason she can't help but wonder if she's the only person he used other nicknames on. to her, it seemed rare. thinking about this, Mariette slowly shifted closer to Mettaton as he sat next to her on the ground. he wrapped his arm around her and moved her body closer to his. he could feel her heartbeat, racing fast like a prey animal in shock. he can't blame her. Mariette is very much like a rabbit, and a very anxious person. he could imagine she feels this way almost all the time. she's scared.. Mettaton thought, and he gently pulled her into a close hug.

Mariette feels Mettaton's heartbeat as well, the visible heart on his robot body. it doesn't feel human, as his body is artificial and robotic, but it does beat very similarly to a human. it must have been the wonders of metal and magic done by Alphys. his heartbeat is rather slow. i love him so much, i wish i could tell him... Mariette thought and sighed softly. she hesitantly, but slowly, took Mettaton's hand in a shy manner. "Mettaton, i..." she paused,

"i am in love with you."

Au Pacifist way: another story

🌸 Even back when he was a ghost, Happstablook, Mettaton fell in love with Alphys. He was captivated by that clumsy, silly lizard dork who ran around with anime posters and argued with him about some Mew Mew Kissy Cutie. She seemed to him the most beautiful soul in the entire Underground.

🌸 After getting his robotic body, Mettaton planned to win Alphys over. But star fever and his TV host career quickly pushed that beautiful feeling to the back burner. Years later, he bitterly regretted the lost time.

🌸 After reaching the Surface, Mettaton promised himself he would confess his love to Alphys. His career would no longer stand between them.

🌸 Alphys took her breakup with Undyne very hard. It was Mettaton who was there for her when she felt completely shattered. He didn't try to flirt or play the hero — he simply listened, watched anime with her, and surrounded her with care. Alphys gravitated toward him, but she felt unworthy. She believed she didn't deserve happiness and was afraid of hurting someone else, just as she had hurt Undyne. And so she pushed the robot away, even when she desperately wanted to pull him closer.

🌸 Mettaton didn't give up, even when Alphys started dating Dr. Michael — a human from the local clinic. Mettaton was jealous. Terribly. Childishly so. He even let Alphys go for a while, but after a good scolding from Undyne, he resumed fighting for his beloved. And he won.

🌸 Alphys gets genuinely upset when Mettaton fusses over her like a little child. But she understands the reason: in the first months on the Surface, when humans were clashing with monsters again, the robot almost lost his friends during one of the skirmishes. Since then, an anxiety virus has taken root in his programming: he is terrified that the beings dear to him could be erased from this world.

🌸 Mettaton and Alphys celebrate Valentine's Day following the traditions from their favorite anime: on February 14th, Alphys gives Mettaton chocolate she made with her own paws under Undyne and Asgore's guidance, and on March 14th, the robot presents his beloved with gifts in return, each time trying to outdo himself.

🌸 Mettaton collects designer scarves, but the most precious piece in his wardrobe is a crooked one, with a couple of holes and far too long — the one Alphys knitted for him with her own paws.

🌸 Mettaton loves sleeping while hugging Alphys's plump tail. He claims it's the best anti-stress pillow in the universe.

🌸 Alphys secretly (and sometimes blatantly) wears Mettaton's clothes. His t-shirts, rhinestone jackets, and even ties hang on her like a sack, filling the robot with both endearment and mild indignation that "a designer piece will get stretched out."

🌸 Exactly three years after reaching the Surface, Mettaton proposed his paw and soul to Alphys live on the news.

🌸 Undyne and Papyrus were the witnesses at their wedding. Mettaton resisted for a long time, deeming the loud skeleton's candidacy "incompatible with the image of a perfect celebration." But Alphys gave him a reproachful look, and Undyne threateningly tightened her grip on her spear. Mettaton surrendered, and Papyrus wept with happiness.
