Day 635 - Merriep | メリープ | Mareep & Kid Mikan / Jasmine

Nearly a decade ago, Mikan was planning to explore abandoned lighthouse of Olivine City. She was enamored by that lighthouse since she was a toddler. Lighthouse toys, lighthouse nightlights, she was obsessed.

On her way to the beach where the lighthouse was, she saw a Merriep struggling to get out of a thicket of bushes. Its wool was caught in dozens of branches. Merriep was getting angry, shooting sparks all about. Mikan ran over without being scared, determined to free Merriep.

Despite getting shocked, cut and bruised, Mikan carefully took Merriep out of the bushes, calming it instantly. Mikan pet the Merriep and went on her way, expecting Merriep to go back to its home in the wild. Instead, Merriep followed her into the lighthouse.

Mikan reached the top of the stairwell in that rusted, run-down lighthouse. The top floor was only lit by the dimming daylight. She was pretending to own the lighthouse, fixing it panel by panel. Soon, time caught up with her and dusk fell. It was going to be impossible to see in the dark.

Mikan was afraid, terrified of the thought of staying overnight. Her parents didn’t know where she was, and nobody would guess the lighthouse in time. Just as she started to weep, a small bleat was heard from the stairwell door.

Merriep was watching her fix the lighthouse! It lit up its little tail orb and the entire lighthouse was enveloped in its glow. Mikan’s eyes gleamed with joy and surprise. The two left the lighthouse for the night, and went home together. They dreamed of coming back each afternoon to fix the restore the lighthouse.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Merriep’s wool is conductive, so when grooming it is recommended to wear gloves. In the winter, their coat encroaches upon their head, giving them an even cuter look. They chew on live wires, so power companies have to coat them in bittering agents.
