I don't identify as any gender identity in particular, which is why I use agender as my main label. I'm not genderless though. My gender identity can only be explained with xenogenders. I use two xenogenders; mergender and sodagender.

Mergender explains how I experience gender as being merperson otherkin. I don't experience gender in a human way because I don't see myself as a human. I am a merperson, so my gender is experienced in a merperson way. I am not a mermaid or a merman, but rather a merperson that's not male or female and not masculine or feminine.

I use sodagender, specifically ornagesodagender and strawberrysodagender. Orange soda and strawberry soda both explain how my gender feels like for me. My internal gender feel sweet, fizzy, bubbly; like soda. Orange soda reflects my cheerfulness, while strawberry soda reflects my friendliness.

My merperson kintype fluctuates in intensity. Sometimes I feel mostly like a human, while other times I fully feel like a merperson. When I feel mostly human, I don't identify as any gender see myself as gender neutral, and use agender to describe this.

When I feel mostly like a merperson, I don't feel gender neutral. I feel like I have a gender that is related to being a merperson, but also isn't male or female. My identity as a merperson is tied with my sense of gender identity.

I still identify as agender when I feel mostly human. But when I feel mostly or fully like a merperson, I will also use xenogender and mergender to describe myself and how I feel.

Hi everyone! I love the mergender pride flag but I wanted to create a flag specifically for mermaids who identify with living in freshwater environments, like me, so I've designed a pride flag for that. So here is a Freshwater Mergender pride flag!

The three blue lines at the top represent lakes, rivers, and smaller bodies of water like ponds and streams. The olive green in the middle is for the fish, crawdads, turtles, and other wildlife you may find in our waters. Light brown is for the mud and earth. Mint green represents the freshness of the waters, and dark green represents the forests, plant life, and wilderness that surround our beloved watery homes.

Cattail reeds were chosen as the symbol in the middle because they are an iconic and easily recognizable silhouette associated with bodies of freshwater. (At least in North America, which is where I am native to)

Of course, since I wanted to specify a freshwater flag, I thought I'd also design a sister flag for my saltwater mermaid friends, too! Behold:

The three lines at the top are all shades of blue that represent the oceans, lagoons, and deltas/islands that are home to saltwater merfolk. The sandy orange in the middle is for the tropical fish and wildlife that they live with. The coral pink if for the reefs and shells they love. Light purple for beauty that their saltwater homes provide, and royal purple for the magic and mystery that comes with living in the deeper ends of the ocean.

Coral was chosen as the symbol in the middle because it is iconic and easily recognizable silhouette associated with the sea and bodies of saltwater.
