darcyrussell are feels like coded! that song is their song, end of story. i could write an essay about the parallels between feels like and darcyrussell (and it would be 10+ pages at the very least). i cannot think of a better book recommendation than this one 😌

⊹ eighteen months after her sister’s death, meredith fox and her family have taken one of their yearly trips to martha’s vineyard for a family wedding. when meredith discovers the wedding participants are hosting the annual game of assassin to honor her sister claire, she decides to do whatever it takes to win the game for her. in doing so, meredith finds herself teaming up with the step-brother of the groom, wit. the two begin to fall for one another but meredith will begin to question if she can really love somebody she’s only known for a week.

k.l. walther based the book and the main couple off of hey stephen and it makes for an adorable romance. wit and meredith's banter, chemistry, and relationship as a whole had me giggling, twirling my hair, and kicking my feet. i highly, highly recommend!

in the same vein, there are ton of taylor swift references scattered throughout the book! it was like a scavenger hunt to find them all and it made for a really, really fun time while reading 🤭

another summer romance with a cute cover! you remind me of spending the summer at the beach and this book really embodies that feeling <3

elizacaz are the most gold rush slash you are in love couple to ever exist. everything about them screams those two songs. nothing can embody them more than gold rush and you are in love 🤕

cora, i've probably made it abundantly clear with every single recommendation, but you remind me of sweet ya romances (and the romance genre in general) and this book is exactly that 💕

i just really feel like you'd enjoy this one: from the romance, to the conflict, to the characters (their personalities and their struggles), it feels right up your alley!

“The Summer of Broken Rules” is a sweet escape for closed door romance readers everywhere!

The novel centers around Meredith Fox, who recently lost her big sister. Walther turns feelings of grief into words by capturing Meredith’s pain and how it consumed her, isolated her, and transformed her. Though her grief never fully goes away, it lessens at Martha’s Vineyard, a place very near and dear to her heart. 

Every summer, Meredith makes the trip to Martha’s Vineyard to reunite with her extended family. I appreciate Walther for making the Fox family so diverse. Same-sex parents, remarried couples, and adopted children are all featured, offering great representation. The family only grows when Meredith’s cousin decides to hold her wedding at the vineyard. 

Enter Wit, a member of the wedding party. Still struggling with his parent’s separation and not knowing what direction he is headed in life, Wit is intent on soaking up the last bit of summer. 

As the week progresses, Wit and Meredith grow closer, unable to resist the pull they feel towards each other. I absolutely love how their whirlwind romance is healing for the both of them. They truly bring out the best in each other, no matter the circumstance, allowing for character growth.  

Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was the formatting. Each section of the book is a day of the week to represent the seven days that Meredith spends in Martha’s Vineyard for the wedding. Additionally, Walther includes text messages and instagram captions, making for a more engaging read.
