Can I ask you how you imagine Mer Dave and reader future? Just an opinion you have on them!

Okay, mer!Dave and his reader. Well. I imagine the two of them develop a routine - she greets him in the morning, they hang out. Sometimes she brings nee things for him to try, different types of fish or fidget toys or stim toys, just things he can play with that have different textures. Sometimes he brings her things, fresh clams or shiny things he found or fresh fish. She gets very good at cooking fish.

The two of them continue to develop their quasi language. She teaches him more words and they develop their own signs for things. It's not elegant and it's certainly not exhaustive but it works for them.

The days she has to go into town he mopes on the beach. A lot. And if she has to go away for more than one day? Hoo boy. He is Not Happy. And probably grabs her as soon as he can and refuses to let go for a long time. (But at least he doesn't try to drag her into the water with him.)

I recently attended a watch party, we settled on "The shape of water" and I got to live my own personal fantasy of smoochin Mer!Dave!

I loved the idea of making him the mer not the reader!

Oh that sounds like such a fun movie to do a watch party!!! I haven't seen it yet, it's been on my to watch list for ages. I'll get there eventually!

Unfortunately I am not planning to write more for mer!Dave. They will live together like this, and she goes down to the beach to visit him every day. Mers show up in all of her writing after that. She unofficially becomes the person who knows the most about cold water mers because she's got one wrapped around her fingers. Dave keeps that section of ocean patrolled and clean and clear of other mers. He likes to show off his battle scars for her.

Had a TON of fun with this. Basic premise is that Dave's a mer from relatively shallow waters. John is a far more predatory mer from much, much deeper. He's not sure if he wants to eat him, play with him, or keep him as a pet really. Though the last option would involve swimming higher fairly often to make sure he had enough oxygen entering his system and to make sure he ate.. Playing sounds fun.
