A tasty change from the usual meatball sub is these Open Faced Meatball Parmesan Sammies. They are sure to please any crowd because they have homemade meatballs that are juicy and squished between toasted bread slices. They are then topped with marinara sauce and melty mozzarella cheese.
Ingredients: 1 lb ground beef. 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese. 1 egg. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/4 tsp black pepper. 1/2 tsp garlic powder. 1/2 cup marinara sauce. 4 slices of bread. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese. Fresh basil leaves, for garnish.
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 375F 190C. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through. While the meatballs are baking, toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a baking sheet in the oven until lightly golden. Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and increase the oven temperature to 400F 200C. Place a spoonful of marinara sauce on each slice of toasted bread. Top each slice of bread with meatballs and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs. Return the assembled open-faced sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
