New Science Teacher, New Emotions, New Understanding
Warning: This chapter is a little NSFW towards the end!
Ms. Delanay's stern teaching methods were definitely a step up from the substitute teachers that had been filling in for Mrs. Cooper. However, Alana didn't quite like the fact that the new teacher seemed a little full of herself. But, she kept Amber quiet and that was a bonus. Ms. Delanay was a middle aged woman with fair skin, grey eyes and brown hair that was styled into a bob. Her clothes consisted of a dark blue tunic, a black belt that rested just beneath her chest, dark leggings, a long lab coat and a silver necklace. It did not take long for her to send the whole class into a panic when she explained that the first thing she'd be doing was assigning everyone lab partners according to the results of a scientific aptitude test. "Mels, you and Nathaniel will most likely end up being partners. You two are among the smartest in the class." Sam commented. "You know I'm best at Astronomy!" Alana hissed. "My best subject is English. I'm nowhere near as good at science!" Nathaniel gasped. "You'll be fine!" Sam reassured the pair.
The test ended up giving everyone interesting partnerships. "Alana and I are lab partners!" Rosalaya cheered. "Being paired with Kim isn't a bad thing!" Nathaniel mused. "I wanted to be paired with Nathaniel or Alana!" Armin huffed. "Oh, come on! I'm not the worst lab partner!" Sharon shot. "I feel bad for Castiel, he got paired with Charlotte." Kentin laughed. "At least he didn't get paired with Peggy the Paparazzo!" Sam choked. "Yeah, but Amber got paired with Melody..." Alexy cackled. "Lysander got paired with Ken." Sam commented. "Which means I'll have to be the one to carry all the notes." Ken sighed. "Yeah, but he's not an idiot. So, you guys will pass." Sam shrugged. "You think it'll be weird for Violette? She had that crush on Alexy and now they're lab partners." Alana asked. "Nah, we've talked everything over. She knows how I swing and we're okay with being friends and lab partners." Alexy nodded. "We all might wanna watch out for Li and Capucine. There aren't many brain cells between the two of them. Their experiments might be lethal." Sam laughed. "Iris got paired with Dajan. So, that's not bad." Alana shrugged.
The next day, Ms. Delanay required the students to purchase their own protective gear. "I still don't understand why they don't supply that for each student. Weathering High School does." Lynne commented when the girls handed her the notice. "Yeah, I don't get it either. I thought our family gave a generous donation to the school when you enrolled us." Alana shrugged. "We did. That's why the textbooks and tech are properly up to date. Its also why the cafeteria is getting an upgrade." Lynne replied. "Ah, well, at least they're using the money for good." Alana sighed. "I hope we get to keep the gear since we're paying for it." Sam shot. "We should." Alana replied. "I'm gonna call the school. Don't worry about your gear girls." Lynne nodded as she walked off.
Everyone gathered in the gymnasium to receive their protective gear from Boris. "I can't believe I forgot the money! I won't be able to get it!" Melody cried. "How did you of all people forget the money?" Alana asked. "I was doing extra credit for my advanced placement class and I forgot to ask my parents!" Melody explained. "I'm sure they'll be nice if you explain the situation." Alana reassured her. "What if they're not?!" Melody panicked. "Calm down. I'm sure it'll be okay!" Sam boomed as she walked up to them. The three of them got closer to the table. "Ah! If it isn't the young ladies Roster! Your mother has already paid for your gear and you two are ready to go!" Boris cheered. "Mister Boris... I don't have the money for the equipment." Melody looked down. "Don't worry Miss Melody! A generous benefactor has paid for the gear of every student who can't pay for their own! Here's your set!" Boris beamed. "T-Thank you! May I inquire as to who the generous benefactor is?" Melody stuttered as she took the package. "They wish to remain anonymous." Boris smiled. "Well, if possible, please thank them for me!" Melody nodded as she ran off. Sam and Alana looked at Boris with the same knowing look in their eyes. "It was our mom, wasn't it?" Sam asked. "They wish to remain anonymous." Boris repeated himself. "Mom called the school the other night when we handed her the notices. I can easily bet it was her." Alana stated. Boris looked at the girls, a little surprised. "Your mother doesn't want any of your classmates to feel like they owe your family for this." He quietly replied. "Of course. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone." Alana nodded.
"I'm quitting the newspaper!" Alana could hear Peggy announce as she was passing the Newspaper Club room. "Peggy, just because I won't let you write another trash piece based on gossip, doesn't mean you have to quit the newspaper!" Sharon clapped back. "Why won't you let me write that article?!" Peggy whined. "Because! If Alana's and Sam's mom did pay for that equipment, she probably did it anonymously for a reason!" Sharon responded. "But, the students should know!" Peggy declared. "No, they shouldn't." Alana interrupted as she entered the room. "Alana, this isn't a conversation for you." Peggy snapped while giving Alana a dirty look. "My mother does the students of this school a kindness with the simple request that no one finds out about it and you want to plaster news of that kindness all over the front page... Completely slapping my mother across the face and disregarding her request. This conversation is most certainly my business!" Alana growled. "The students have a right to know who paid for their equipment when their own parents couldn't cough up the cash!" Peggy huffed. "No. The less fortunate students need to just be grateful that there's someone looking out for them... WITHOUT knowing just who that someone is! Or are you trying to make them grovel at someone's feet?" Alana raised an eyebrow and let a small amount of venom seep into her voice. "Peggy, tell me you wouldn't be aiming for that!" Sharon gasped. "I don't want them to grovel, but they deserve to know!" Peggy's voice became saturated with self righteousness. The venom that had seeped into Alana's voice began to take over her body language. "You know, Peggy, I am sick and tired of people like you. Money hungry bottom feeders who are willing to raise the dregs of society and tear down those who are truly good just for a profit and a shot at your fifteen minutes of fame. People like you are the reason why certain celebrities and their families have had to alter their appearance, change their habits and even flee their homes and normal hang out spots just to obtain even half a second of peace." Alana began. "I am not a bottom feeder!" Peggy interrupted. "Oh, really? I was the one who saved you from getting kicked out of the Newspaper Club by the principal, and this is how you repay me? By going against my mother's wishes?! I thought you wanted to be a legit reporter! Not someone who works for TMZ!" Alana almost shouted. "I do want to be a legit reporter!" Peggy stamped her foot. "Then why don't you prove it?!" Sharon challenged. "What?" Peggy asked, confused. "Prove to me that you want to be a legit reporter. You have one week to get an actual scoop about the school, write a proper article for it, and get it to me in time for the next major edition of the School Paper, or you're out of the club. No one will save your position. You won't be allowed a ghost writer. Your parents will be notified of this deal. And, if you do fail, Jonah will write a special article about your departure from the club." Sharon proposed. "And if I succeed?" Peggy asked. "I'll promote you to a better position." Sharon replied. "That's not a solid prize." Peggy shook her head. "Peggy, at this point, I'd take the deal. You're already not on solid ground with the school to begin with. That, and being promoted to any position when you were knocked down to the bottom is a plus." Alana commented. "She's got a point. Either take my deal, or leave the club entirely... Because, honestly, I'm sick of you threatening to leave the club every time you don't get your way. There are Freshmen in the club who have more integrity than you." Sharon shrugged. Peggy thought for a couple of minutes, gave Sharon and Alana dirty looks, then stuck her hand out to Sharon. "I accept your offer. And, I just won't win this. I'll retake my place as Club President!" She declared. "I'd like to see you try! Now, go! Your week starts today!" Sharon shook Peggy's hand.
â
Over the next few days most of the class caught wind of Peggy's deal with Sharon. "I can't believe that Sharon got that fed up!" Alexy gasped. "Really? I'm fed of with Peggy's crap. Its about time that girl finally face legit consequences!" Sam scoffed. "So, do you think she'll do it?" Nathaniel asked as he sat down at the cafeteria table. "I'm genuinely not sure. I'm just sick and tired of Peggy saying that she's going to do better, and then after a couple of weeks, falling back into her tabloid habits." Alana shrugged as she joined them. "True. Even after being almost kicked out of the club by the principal, she tried to be a paparazzi again. Apparently, that wasn't enough of a kick in the ass to get her in gear." Sam popped off. "Well, she's been sneaking around the teacher's lounge for the last couple of days and spying on a few of the teachers... So she's definitely up to something." Armin shrugged. "Well, I hope it doesn't get her into trouble." Rosalaya sighed. "I hope she doesn't beat Jonah's ass... He keeps snickering whenever she gets near him." Alexy shrugged. "He really needs to stop being so cocky..." Sharon exhaustedly sighed as she sat down. "If Peggy punches him, I'll need it on video!" Sam laughed. "I'm going to have a talk with him. Don't worry about it." Sharon waved her hand as she ended the topic of conversation.
As the week continued, Peggy put all of her focus into writing her article and wrote in her notepad during every free second she got. Even during Science Class, she got on Sam's nerves by refusing to do her class work. "Hey, Peggy! Put that dang notebook away and focus on the experiment! Don't think for a second that I won't go to Ms. Delanay and tell her that I'm doing this project solo!" Sam boomed. "But I'm almost done!" Peggy hissed. "I don't care! You wouldn't even be in this situation if it weren't for your constant failure to be a real journalist!" Sam shot back. "What's going on?!" Ms. Delanay called as she walked up to them. "Peggy is risking the integrity of the project by not properly collaborating with me, and forcing me to complete it on my own." Sam announced in her most prim and proper tone. "Is this true?" Ms. Delanay sternly questioned Peggy. Peggy looked down. "Y-yes." She stuttered. Ms. Delanay raised an eyebrow. "Am I correct to believe that you have a valid reason to force your partner to complete this group project by herself?" She asked. The color began to flee from Peggy's face. "Well, you see... Its very serious... If I don't complete this article in time..." She began. Ms. Delanay looked at Peggy's desk and allowed her annoyance to be expressed through her body language. She folded her arms, pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes. "Young lady, when you are in MY class, you will focus on the work that I present to you! You will not waste MY time on work that does not pertain to MY curriculum! Put that other work in your bag and assist your partner in completing the assignment for MY class! Consider this your ONLY warning. If I see that you have that other work out again, I will confiscate it and notify the teacher for that class of why you were unable to complete it in time. I should not have to remind you of the hazards that you are putting your classmates and yourself at risk of by not paying proper attention to the experiments that are performed in this class! Am I clear?" She announced. "Y-yes, Ma'am." Peggy sheepishly muttered as she took the article and carefully placed it back in her bag. "That goes for all of you! The only reason you would ever be allowed to work on anything unrelated to my class is if I explicitly give you permission to do so! Otherwise, you are to keep your other work put away!" Ms. Delanay boomed. "Yes, Ma'am!" most of the class called back.
Suddenly, an explosion rang through the classroom, and it began to fill with smoke. "Ms. Delanay, I think something has gone wrong!" Capucine panicked as she and Li jumped back from their seats. "Everyone, evacuate the building!" Ms. Delanay commanded. "Yes ma'am!" the class replied in unison as everyone began leaving the room. Several students pulled out their phones and had begun texting while they walked. "The fire department will be here soon, stay calm!" Ms. Delanay ordered. "My article!" Peggy shouted. "Leave it! You can come back to it!" Alana barked as she felt a hand grab hers. Her heart instantly skipped a beat, and her face became a light shade of red. "Alana, let's go." Nathaniel insisted. "Of course." She almost stuttered as she let him lead her out of the lab.
When everyone in the class had made it to the courtyard, multiple students had begun glaring daggers at Li and Capucine. "What did you two idiots do?!" Sam barked at the pair. "We were doing our experiment!" Li huffed. "You had the Bunsen burner too high!" Capucine blurted out. "I don't know what you're talking about! I was following instructions!" Li spat. "You could have gotten someone hurt! Or worse yet, killed!" Alana boomed. "You could have gotten us ALL killed!" Sharon shot. "Seriously! What if something happens to my article?!" Peggy called. "Shut up about your article! They put our lives at risk!" Kentin called back. "Wow, so the nerd does have a voice!" Castiel laughed. "Shut up Cass! Ken's got a point!" Sam popped off. "You know for a fact that you two were being irresponsible!" Rosalaya boomed as she stormed up to them. "THAT'S ENOUGH! ALL OF YOU!" Ms. Delanay shouted over the crowd. Everyone turned around to see her furiously stamping her foot. "Li Satre and Capucine Fontaine, go to the Principal's Office, NOW!" She barked as she pointed in the direction of the building. "Is it safe?" Li asked in a condescending tone. Ms. Delanay pinched the bridge of her nose with her left thumb and pointer finger and let out an exasperated sigh. "The Fire Department is only focused on the Science Lab. The Principal's Office is safe. Now, GO!" She ordered. "Fine!" Li huffed as she walked away. Capucine looked nervous. "I really hope I don't get detention for this." She whined as she followed Li.
It didn't take long for the Fire Department to finish their investigation of the Science Lab and declare it safe to return to. However, by the time they were able to get back to class, the bell rang for the students to go to their next classes. Ms. Delanay made everyone clean up their stations and properly put the experiments away before she allowed them to gather their things and leave her class. "We will be continuing this experiment in the next class!" She called as everyone left for their next classes. Rosalaya looked at Alana as she and Nathaniel worked together to clean up Li's and Capucine's station. "What are you looking at?" Lysander asked her, his bag in hand. "You know? I kind of figured that my partner wouldn't stay glued to my side." Rosa chuckled. "Are you being cryptic again?" Castiel inquired. Rosa nodded her head in Alana's and Nathaniel's direction. Castiel turned to look at Alana and a wave of jealousy washed its way through his body language. The experiments had been put up and she was neatly placing things in her bag while she and Nathaniel continued their conversation. "He's always spending time with her. I heard he's even been going to her family's apartment to study almost every night." Lysander observed. "Not every night." Castiel flatly stated as he huffed and walked off. "Has he admitted it to himself yet?" Rosa asked Lysander. "I don't think so." Lysander sighed. "He needs to before Nathaniel makes his move." Rosa replied. "Knowing him, by the time he actually puts it to words, it'll already be too late." Lysander observed. "It might already be too late." Rosa sighed. Alana grabbed her bag and turned to face Nathaniel. "You ready for that history test?" She eagerly asked him. "Yeah." He smiled as they left the lab.

It wasn't long before word got out that Li and Capucine were given two weeks detention for their actions in the lab and that Ms. Delanay had to talk Principal Shermansky out of sending them to In School Suspension for a few days. "Peggy... You didn't run a slam piece in the paper, did you?" Sam asked in a very accusatory tone when class ended for the day. "No! I swear, it wasn't me!" Peggy panicked. "Sam! I can't believe I'm doing this... But it wasn't her. The article didn't have her writing style." Alana pointed out. "But, it basically blamed both of them! We know it was just Li that did it!" Sam called. "It wasn't her. It was Jonah. He simply reported the event." Sharon stated as she and Jonah walked up to them. Jonah was a somewhat lanky young man with pale skin, short almost fluffy brown hair and gray eyes. He often wore black pants, black tennis shoes, a blue collared shirt that was layered on top of a white t-shirt, a Sweet Amoris High School letterman jacket and a pair of black half-framed glasses. "Jonah was across the room with Jade and neither of them were actually doing their experiment. Sharon, you were closer to the table. Why didn't you report on it?" Alana asked. "Because I had mountains of work to worry about and he wanted to do a simple event piece. He was still in the room, so he is a witness." Sharon shrugged. "As it is, I'm not wrong. Li may have done the main part, but Capucine could have put a stop to it before it escalated to that point." Jonah replied. "Capucine tried!" Sam snarled. "The point is, it's not actually worded like a slam piece. So, I approved it. As it is, Peggy... You still have a few more days to get a proper article. It had better be good." Sharon raised an eyebrow. "It will." Peggy growled. "It had better be! Or else I'll be writing your resignation!" Jonah laughed. "You wanna say that again?!" Peggy almost yelled as Sam held her back. "Calm down Peggy. Our fight is through the paper." Jonah began. He then turned to Alana and grinned. "Say, Alana... How about you and I go on a date? I know this really good restaurant downtown." He cooed. Alana felt a shiver run through her spine and her blood began to run cold. "No thank you." She rejected as she grabbed her bag and started walking towards the school doors. Jonah shrugged his shoulders. "Your loss! What about you, Sam? You need a break from that military brat?" He flirted as he quickly winked in Sam's direction. "No bloody way would I ever leave Kentin for you. Piss off!" Sam shot. "Sam, I'm going to the park. I need some fresh air to wash whatever this moment is off of me." Alana shook and patted herself down as if she was cleaning herself.
"Why did that loser ask me out?!" Alana thought as she walked through town towards the park. "I don't know. But there have been a lot of whispers about Nathaniel and Castiel both being interested in you." The voice in her head replied. "Castiel isn't interested in me." Alana thought back. "Are you sure about that? When Nathaniel and Armin aren't buzzing around you, he is. And he's the one who throws pebbles at your window to get your attention." The voice in her head observed. "Oh, Cass is just an edgy asshole with a dramatic flair." She shrugged off. "Oh, please! He may call you flat chested, but there's a reason why Sam jokes about his affection towards you. You're just too dense to properly admit it!" the voice in her head clapped back. Without realizing it, she had passed through the gates of the park and had found herself at the base of a tree. The sounds of chirping could be heard near her feet. "What's this?" She asked. She knelt down, wiped away a few leaves and revealed the source of the chirping. "AWE! Poor thing! Were you trying to fly for the first time?" She cooed as she picked up the baby bird. The little creature didn't look like it was hurt, just mildly disoriented. Alana looked up to see if she could find its nest. After a couple of minutes, she found it. The nest was a bit high up in the tree. "I think I can get you back up there. But I'll have to put you in my bra to guarantee your safety while I climb. Please don't peck me, too much!" She cheerily explained to the bird. The bird looked at her, clearly terrified and just accepted its fate as she carefully secured it in the center of her bra.
Climbing up the tree was the easy part. There were plenty of branches for her to grab onto and put her weight on. Surprisingly enough, her plan to keep the bird safe worked. "There you go! Safe and sound!" Alana beamed as she carefully placed the bird back in its nest. The bird looked at her and gave her a grateful chirp. "Alright! Now I just need to get back down the same way that I got up here!" She confidently chirped as she looked down. "You really shouldn't have looked down... Dumbass!" The voice in her head popped off. "I really didn't think I was that high up...." She fretted. "What are you gonna do?" The voice in her head inquired. "I'm gonna go down the way I got up here and be very careful." She thought back. She twisted to face the trunk, grabbed a couple of strong branches and slowly started climbing down. After a few branches, she had become quite confident. "I'm gonna make it!" She thought. "You still have several feet before you're at a safe distance to the ground. Don't get too full of yourself!" The voice in her head ordered. "I'll be fine!" She thought back. Suddenly, her foot slipped a little. "Oh shit!" She gasped. "Be more careful!" The voice in her head huffed as she managed to put her foot on what felt like a more stable branch.
Without warning, a scream radiated throughout the park as branches broke, and Alana found herself falling out of the tree from a dangerous height. "ALANA!" Two boys could be heard yelling in unison as a red and black blur and a gold and blue blur darted towards her. Within seconds, Alana felt herself being caught as the first thing she could register in the moment was the red hair and silver eyes of her savior. "CASTIEL!" She cried as she threw her arms around him, desperately trying to not burst into tears. Despite her best efforts, she could feel the tears already streaming down her face. "Alana! Are you okay! What happened?! Why were you up a tree?!" Nathaniel pleaded for answers as he did everything in his power to not let envy overtake his body language. Castiel held her close while he found a bench to set her down on. "Alana, what the hell were you doing?! You could have gotten severely hurt from that height!" Castiel panicked. "I-I... T-there... T-there w-was... a-a b-b-baby b-bird... I-It h-h-had... f-fallen... o-o-out-t-t... of-f-f... i-it's... n-n-nest... I just w-wanted t-to h-help it..." Alana blubbered. She felt herself being sat down on the bench and Castiel moving to her side. Tears continued flowing down her cheeks as she tried to wipe some of them away and regain a shred of her composure. Realization washed over both boys. "Alana..." Castiel gasped. "Alana, I was nearby. You could have gotten me to do it." Nathaniel sighed. "I thought you'd be with Amber... And I was just trying to gather my thoughts for a bit... I thought I could handle it... I didn't think any of the branches would break on me..." Alana cried. Nathaniel knelt in front of her, clearly looking for any wounds on her legs. When he had come to the conclusion that her legs and knees were fine, he looked up at her. "Why did you need to gather your thoughts?" He asked, cautiously. "Let me see your hands." Castiel ordered. "That sleazeball Jonah asked me out right before I left school. When I rejected him, he asked Sam out. He knows that she's with Ken! I wanted to wash the slime of that moment off of me by coming here to clear my head." She explained to Nathaniel as she placed her hands in Castiel's so that he could see if there was any damage. "He did WHAT?!" Nathaniel blurted out, as he shot to his feet. "And your sister didn't beat him to a pulp? That's surprising." Castiel remarked, keeping his focus on her hands and noticing a few scrapes. "S-She might have... I didn't stay long enough to see the full aftermath." Alana shrugged.
After a few minutes of Castiel and Nathaniel talking to her, Alana's phone vibrated. She looked at it and sighed. "Someone took a picture of us three together with me in Castiel's arms and posted it online. Mom wants me to come home to explain it..." She muttered. "I'll walk you home." Castiel declared. "I'll do it." Nathaniel insisted. "I caught her. I'll do it." Castiel gave Nathaniel a dirty look. "Alana, who do you want to walk you home?" Nathaniel asked, his eyes almost pleading for her to choose him. Alana thought for a minute. "Castiel was the one who caught me... Mom will probably wanna talk to him." She replied. Nathaniel looked at her, a little broken hearted. "Alana..." He muttered. Alana looked at him, smiled and placed her hand on his arm. "I'll be okay. As it is, don't we still have a study session tomorrow?" She cooed. "Yeah, we do. I'll be at your place in time for lunch." He grinned. "Good. Because mom is going to Weathering tomorrow. And I plan on making us something to eat." She blushed. "Text me when you get home, okay? I'll see you tomorrow." He purred. "I will." She replied, lightly biting her lower lip. Castiel looked at the two of them and let his envy overcome him a little bit. "Let's go, Alana. Your mom is worried." He huffed.
"I'm so glad that you were able to keep my Melody safe!" Lynne almost shrieked after Alana and Castiel explained what had happened in the park. "HA! It's not every day that Mels is the reckless one!" Sam laughed. "I was just trying to help a baby bird!" Alana defended herself. "You still could have gotten hurt! You would have if it weren't for this boy catching you!" Lynne cried as she paced the living room. "Look, Alana was just being kind to a small animal. I don't disagree that she should have been more careful. But she's okay." Castiel did everything in his power to calm the situation down. "Castiel, if it weren't for you catching her, my daughter might have ended up in the hospital! I understand that you're defending her. But she was a little too reckless this time!" Lynne blurted out. "Yet you know she gets on the roof at the main house in Weathering." Sam remarked. "That's different! There's a part of the roof that is very close to the ground! I've watched her slide down the roof and into a pile of leaves! Its significantly safer for her to do that than it is for her to climb that high in a tree!" Lynne sputtered. "Sam, we all know that's WHY I put piles of leaves and snow near that part of the roof." Alana rolled her eyes. "I owe you my deepest gratitude, Castiel. Please, if you are ever in need, know that you can come to me!" Lynne declared. "I appreciate that, Ms. Roster. But I'm just happy that Alana is safe." Castiel nodded as he stood up from the couch and looked at the wall clock. "I should really be getting home. It's getting late." He commented. "You don't wanna stay for dinner?" Lynne asked. "I'm fine. I'm having dinner with Lysander anyway." He replied as he walked towards the door. "Oh, well, thank you again for saving my daughter." Lynne smiled. Alana walked over to him and hugged him. "Thanks Cass." She muttered. Castiel wrapped one of his arms around her and did everything he could to not blush. "I'll see you later Alana." He whispered.
After spending all of dinner getting poked and prodded at by her mother as to why Castiel isn't her boyfriend and cackled at by Sam as she made comments about how she had already picked Nathaniel over every boy in her "harem", Alana had stormed off to her room and slammed her door out of frustration. "I am so tired of Mom and Sam telling me that Castiel likes me! He doesn't! WE'RE JUST FRIENDS!!!" She huffed when she had gotten her music turned to the song and volume that she wanted. "He and Nathaniel do hang around you a lot." The voice in her head pointed out. "But they're my friends. Just like Armin is!" She thought back. "You've been having sexy dreams about Nathaniel for a while. You know he's not just a friend. And Castiel doesn't hang out with you the way Armin does! He mainly hangs out with you when he knows that he's gonna have you all to himself. Nathaniel doesn't mind hanging out with everyone, so long as he gets to spend time with you. Castiel tries to keep his time with you private." The voice in her head explained. "You know he's a very private guy. He mainly hangs out with Lysander, and sometimes Rosa." She thought back. "You're in denial, dumbass!" The voice in her head scoffed.
"Cass! How did you get up here?!" Alana did her best to be quiet so she wouldn't wake her mother and sister. Castiel sat on her bed and grinned. "Apparently, your sister has a twisted sense of humor. She saw me standing outside your window and invited me in." He explained. "I'm gonna kill her! If mom found out you were here, she'd flip! I'd legit never hear the end of it!" Alana panicked as she paced around the room in front of him. "Calm down, or else you might actually wake your mom." Castiel warned. "Why did you even take my idiot sister up on her offer?!" She hissed when she got to a stopping point in front of him. Castiel stood up, got dangerously close to her, put one arm around her hips and used the other hand to position her head so he could bring his lips crashing down onto hers. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" She thought as her mind went blank and her body started becoming hot. When the kiss ended, she just looked at him, utterly bewildered. "Because I have wanted to do that for quite some time." He purred. "W-W-What?! C-Cass... Y-You c-can't b-be s-s-serious..." She stuttered. "I am... And I would like to do much more than that... If you'll let me." He smirked as he looked her over. It was at that moment that Melody Roster realized that she was only wearing a pair of black panties and an extra-large Sailor Moon shirt. "Cass..." She sighed. "Can I do more?" He asked as his eyes and tone softened. Without another word, Alana nervously grinned and nodded. "Good." He smiled. Castiel took his time taking his jacket and shirt off, revealing a set of well-toned abs. Alana couldn't help but stare in awe at the boy in her room as her core ignited. "My, my, the girl who usually never shuts up is actually rather quiet tonight..." He chuckled as he walked over to her and began tugging at the bottom of her shirt. "Well, I didn't think you had a thing for flat chested girls!" She scoffed as she tucked her arms into the shirt and let him pull it over her head, revealing her bare breasts. "You know you're not actually flat chested, right? I just say that to tease you." He blushed. "Well... I don't like being teased like that... I'm actually self-conscious about it." She blushed. "Okay... I won't call you that anymore..." He cooed as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in for another kiss, making sure to press her breasts against his bare chest. She couldn't help but lightly moan into his mouth at the feeling of his skin against hers. "Is this really happening?" She couldn't help but think. "Are you not the least bit concerned that this is Castiel and not Nathaniel?" the voice in her head asked. Before Alana could formulate a response, Castiel had begun carefully leading her to the bed and motioning for them to lay down together. She couldn't help but follow his lead; The more he touched and kissed her, the harder she felt his member get through his pants, the more her core demanded that she let him go further. He laid down over her and smirked. "Are you enjoying this?" He asked with his left hand positioned on her stomach. "Y-yes..." She nervously nodded. He held his position over her with his right arm and maintained his gaze into her eyes as he began sliding his left hand lower and lower. When he got to the boundary of her panties, he looked at her as if he was asking permission to cross that boundary. "May I?" He almost pleaded. "You may." She nodded. Castiel smiled as he let his hand cross the boundary and began feeling around her warm, wet, core.
Suddenly, Alana jolted awake. She sat up in her bed and looked around. Castiel was nowhere to be found, she was wearing a Kingdom Hearts 2 t-shirt and a pair of black gym shorts, and her "Soothing Songs" playlist was playing from her computer. She looked at her phone to check the time. "Three in the morning." She sighed as she unlocked it to check her messages. Apparently, in her sleep, multiple people had begun blowing up her phone, asking her about the tree incident. But only one thing stuck on her mind... She had just had a sexy dream about a man that was not the one that she had said that she had feelings for... And it terrified her.
This is what I've decided to do instead of focusing on Episode 25. Alana's not an idiot and wouldn't be stupid enough to go back in for that paper. Also, with Peggy not acting as head of the Newspaper, she's not gonna be in charge of the paper anyway. Sharon wouldn't be caught dead having her Newspaper work out during Science Class.
I know Dajan isn't really mentioned after Episode 1 of the game. But, I like fleshing out the class. My entire graduating class was filled with several HUNDRED students. So, by creating more students and having other students that are seen once and never seen again scattered throughout the chapters, I'm making the obvious more clear.
Jonah Simmons is a reference to J. Jonah Jameson (famous reporter from Spider-Man) who is most well-known portrayed by J. K. Simmons. His appearance is a reference to Lex Luthor from My Adventures with Superman AND Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker.
I gave Li the French surname "Satre". I thought it would be interesting to give Li French/Asian heritage. Much like Marinette from Miraculous.
The Wiki says that Capucine is from a bourgeois family. So, she couldn't be a relative of the Astarian Aristocracy or any of the families that are adjacent, nouveau riche or disgraced. I gave her the last name, Fontaine, because it sounded fancy enough to be rich, but not fancy enough to be close to aristocratic.
I was not originally intending on having this chapter end on a sexy note... But, by the time I got around to writing it, it fit. And it helped me plan the next chapter!

@melodyalanaroster I wanted to do a sketch of her whole body cause Iâm really digging these all black outfits so I was thinking she was taking a stroll and met a little friend along the way c:
The results for the Seniorsâ final exams were ready and had been posted. It was finally the day the class found out if whether or not they were graduating. However, the majority of the students had something else on their minds. Most of the girls would not stop talking about what they were going to wear to the Senior Prom. âCome on Nath! Letâs go get our scores!â Alana cheered as she pulled his hand towards their homeroom. âReally? We all know you two passed. You donât need to see your scores.â Sam laughed as she and Kentin walked up behind them. âWe need to make sure.â Nathaniel smiled. When Mr. Faraize entered the room, he looked at the four of them cheerily. âHello students.â He beamed. âGood morning sir! Where are our scores?â Alana asked, curiously. âPatience, Miss Roster. I will hand everyoneâs files out as soon as class starts.â Mr. Faraize chuckled.
When everyone had taken their seats, the class was a buzz with talk about the upcoming events. âIâm gonna be Prom Queen!â Amber loudly proclaimed. âWho would vote for a vain drama queen like you?â Sam asked. âI know you and your idiot sister wonât get it!â Amber shot back. âRemember! My sister is dating your brother!â Sam popped off. âQuiet everyone!â Mister Faraize called as he picked up a stack of folders and stood at the front of the classroom. âYour exam results are in these files and will show you if any of you need to retake them to graduate. To those of you who passed on the first go, congratulations! You may spend the rest of the year focusing on Graduation and, of course, Prom. If you need to retake any of the exams, please come see me and we can schedule your retakes.â He announced. Several students looked around, worried. âI hope I passed!â Violette blurted out. âIâm sure you did fine!â Kim assured her. Mister Faraize began walking around the room and handing out folders. âAre you kidding me?! I have to retake my history exam?!â Amber shouted. âAt least itâs only one test.â Lin attempted to comfort her. âI passed all mine!â Alana cheered. âI told you so!â Sam laughed. âI got all Aâs!â Nathaniel beamed. Kentin looked through his file. âI barely passed Math, but I made it!â He cheered. âI wonder where mom is gonna take us to get our dresses...â Alana pondered out loud. âProbably the more aristocratic side of town... Achille is gonna be out of town this weekend, so Mom will most likely use it as an excuse to hang out with Aunt V.â Sam shrugged. âYeah, right! Like youâre gonna get designer dresses! I doubt youâll even get something out of a BARGAIN bin!â Amber scoffed. Sam and Alana looked at her and rolled their eyes. âYouâre right Sam... Not to mention, Verity and Agatha know where to get the dresses that will look the best on us!â Alana chuckled.
âAlana! What are you gonna wear to Prom?â Rosalaya asked as they walked towards the Gym. âI bet youâre gonna wear a lovely ball gown! Just like a princess!â Alexy cheered. âNope! Iâm going for something elegant and formal. Iâve already decided that I want a floor length, blue, dress and silver accessories.â Alana explained. âThat sounds lovely!â Alexy beamed. When they got to the Gym, Boris was already at work directing the students in preparation for the weekendâs festivities. âDonât forget! There is plenty of time to nominate and vote for Prom Royalty! We need a King and Queen and runners up!â He announced. âI know who Iâm gonna nominate and vote for!â Rosa cooed. âWho?â Alana asked. âItâs a secret!â Rosa smirked as she walked over to the ballot box, wrote two names on a card and dropped it in. Alana looked at her friends and thought for a couple of minutes. âYou could write your own name and run for Prom Queen.â The voice in her head suggested. âNo. I want it to be someone who truly deserves the title... Someone who is a great friend. And I want Prom King to be someone sweet too.â She thought back. Suddenly, the choices were obvious. âI know the perfect people to have the title.â She sighed as she walked over to the ballot box, wrote her choices down and dropped the card in. âThe theme is âUnder The Starsâ and we are going to make this place fabulous!â Boris cheerfully called. âDonât forget to purchase your Prom Tickets so you can get your invitations by the end of the week!â Mr. Faraize instructed as he walked into the room and began putting up decorations.
After everyone had given Mr. Faraize their money for their tickets and the Gymâs transformation had begun taking shape, the bell rang for lunch. âAlana, before we go eat, I wanna talk to you.â Nathaniel cooed. âWhatâs up?â Alana asked, curiously. He took her hands and looked deep into her eyes. âI know its already been implied... But... Will you g-go to Prom with me?â He asked. âOf course! Iâd love to!â Alana blurted out with tears in her eyes. âGreat! Iâll meet you at your apartment that night!â He beamed. Filled with joy, Alana threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. âI canât wait to dance with you that night!â She cheered. âCome on you two! We saved your seats!â Armin called as he poked his head around a corner. Nathaniel walked a couple of feet forward, turned around and held his hand out to her. âShall we?â
As the day went on, several students could be heard complaining about their test scores, the loudest of which was Amber. âI still canât believe I have to focus on my retake! I wanna put more focus on my Prom outfit and becoming queen!â She whined when she entered the classroom. âAmber, calm the frick down! All you have to do is a little bit of studying, and retake the stinking test! Then, once you at least get a somewhat passing grade, you can focus on your little fantasy!â Alana angrily huffed as she and Priya entered the room and grabbed a few items from Mister Faraizeâs cupboard. âI donât wanna hear anything from the little wretch who ruined my family, poisoned my brother against us, and took him from us!â Amber shouted. âI didnât ruin your family! I did not poison him against you. Your brother is free to be who he wants and associate with you and your mom. He just doesnât want anything to do with your dad, and you know why! And, Iâm his GIRLFRIEND, if he wants to spend time with you, it would be wrong of me to stop that!â Alana shot back.
â
âI am so happy that we get to take you shopping as a family! This will be wonderful!â Verity loudly cheered as Sam and Alana entered their living room. âI wish Rini could be here...â Alana sighed. âI know... But sheâs got her studies and Achille wonât let her leave the school until she graduates.â Verity looked down. âIâm sure that, once she graduates, sheâll be able to go shopping for more formal dresses with us another time!â Lynne beamed as she did her best to maintain an upbeat mood. âIf Achille ever lets her...â Alana muttered. âWell, let us all pile into the car so we may start this fashion adventure!â Verity cooed as she motioned towards the door. âYeah, letâs get this party started!â Sam boomed. When the ladies got out of the apartment building, they noticed a limousine parked in front of it. âCome on girls! Letâs go SHOPPING!â Agatha cheered as she stuck the top half of her body out of the sun roof of the vehicle. âHey girls!â Seraphina smiled as she stepped out and opened one of the doors. âThis is definitely going to be an event!â Alana laughed. âOh god...â Sam chuckled.Â
When everyone got settled down in the limousine, Verity looked at Sam and Alana. âSo, girls, before we get started... What styles are you aiming for?â She asked. Alana was quick to describe the style that she had mentioned to Rosalaya and Alexy. âOf course youâd go with elegant and classic! I love it!â Verity cooed. âSo, Sam? What about you?â Seraphina inquired. âI think I wanna go with something kind of out of my element... Something short and glittery.â Sam smirked. âOh god, youâre aiming to drive poor Ken insane!â Alana laughed. âAnd what if I am? Iâm not like you. I donât aim to be a proper lady!â Sam spat. âIâm not a proper lady! I just like classic elegance!â Alana spat. âJust like a proper lady!â Agatha laughed. âCan we just go?!â Alana huffed. âYes, letâs begin this adventure! Iâve booked the finest shop in town for this day!â Verity cheered.
The Aristocratic district of Amouria was filled to the brim with businesses that catered to the finer side of society. Towering skyscrapers, expensive apartments, high dollar enterprises, designer shops, Michelin Star restaurants, and world renowned patisseries all made the quaint, worldly, non-aristocratic side of the city look like it was an entirely different realm. âWeâre going to shop for a couple of hours, then Iâve gotten us a table at Across The Universe for a late lunch or early supper! The top table in the garden of course!â Verity beamed. âThis is going to be an absolutely lovely day!â Agatha cooed. âI suppose it will be!â Alana smiled as the limousine pulled up in front of a skyscraper. The group walked into the building and was greeted by a young lady at the front desk. âMrs. Mekina, Ladies Roster, welcome to Regalia. Mademoiselle Baudelaire is waiting for you upstairs.â She nodded. âThank you. Weâll take ourselves up there.â Verity smiled as an attendant opened the elevator and they all went upstairs.Â
Mademoiselle Giselle Baudelaire had become the youngest, most sought after, fashion designer in Astaria. Having gained a reputation amongst the Astarian Aristocracy for her fine details and her fashion forward designs, it was obvious that she was going to be Verityâs choice to design the looks for her goddaughters. âLady Verity! Welcome back to my humble studio!â The pink haired, porcelain skinned, woman with a pink eye and a yellow eye beamed as she walked up to them. âMademoiselle Baudelaire! Its always a pleasure!â Verity cheered as the women shared a quick hug and two air kisses on the sides of each otherâs heads. Giselle looked at the young ladies standing before her. âWell, well, well! I have never been able to design looks for the legendary Roster Clan! The family who has been essential in our nationâs creation and maintenance, and yet... Refuses to become part of the aristocracy. To what do I owe the pleasure?â She cheered. âPleasure to meet you Mademoiselle Baudelaire, we are here to create my daughtersâ prom looks.â Lynne announced. âIts a pleasure to meet you Miss Baudelaire. Iâm Melody.â Alana politely bowed. âAnd Iâm Sam.â Sam smirked. âItâs a pleasure to meet you too ladies. Now... Who would like to go first?â Giselle asked as she motioned for one of the girls to go stand on the platform in the middle of the room. âI will.â Alana announced. âLook at Mels taking charge!â Agatha mused.
After several minutes of Alana explaining her vision for her look, Giselle smiled as she walked around the room. âYour idea is very simplistic... I wonât be able to design and completely make it within this short time period... However... I do already have something made that wouldnât take much alterations, if any.â She smiled as she walked into a room, rummaged around a bit and walked out carrying a floor length, deep blue, dress. âHere. Go try this on and letâs see what else we need to do to bring your vision to life.â She mused as she held the dress up for Alana to look at. âIt looks great!â Alana smiled as she ran off to the dressing room. While Alana changed, Giselle asked Sam about her vision for her prom look. âI want something short, maybe a little sheer, glittery in the chest area... Iâm not looking to be Prom Queen. I just wanna drive my date insane.â Sam smirked. âSamantha... You drive that poor boy mad enough as it is.â Lynne snickered. âWell... I think I have exactly what youâre looking for.... Young Miss Lafferty recently wanted a green dress, but when I made this, she threw a fit... I almost banned her from the shop for her actions...â Giselle explained as she pulled a very short green dress off of one of the racks. Just as the dress had made itâs way into Samâs arms, Alana walked out of the dressing room wearing the blue dress that had been presented to her. âItâs a bit loose... But I love the style!â Alana observed when she made her way to the platform. âMelody! That dress is so you!â Lynne cheered. âElegant! Absolutely radiant!â Verity cooed. âOur little Pixie Princess looks just like royalty!â Agatha mused. âNot bad, Mels!â Seraphina grinned. âWe can take the dress in.... But it needs something...â Giselle stated as she looked Alana over. âIâm thinking a blue choker, a blue bracelet, blue heels, and maybe a blue clutch purse.â Alana replied. âThatâs not what I mean... It needs a little... Sparkle.â Giselle observed. After a couple of minutes of thinking, the designer quickly looked up, ran off to a different part of the salon, quickly came back and draped a silver jeweled belt around Alanaâs hips. âThere! Just what that needed!â She mused. Alana looked in the mirror and smiled. âI love it!â She cheered. âFantastic! Iâll get your measurements and we can take it in here within the week! Now, miss Sam, please go put on the dress that I handed you.â Giselle instructed. âGot it.â Sam nodded.
Minutes later, Sam walked out of the dressing room wearing a VERY short, green, dress that showcased an emerald, glittery, corset and a sheer, long sleeved top. âYouâre wearing tights!â Lynne blurted out. âBut, other than that? I think Ken will go insane!â Sam chuckled as a devilish smirk spread itâs way across her face. âIâm thinking, open toed, pumps and a silver bracelet.â Verity suggested. âKenâs gonna have to go take a cold shower after prom.â Alana laughed. âWho is to say Iâm not gonna indulge him?â Sam mischievously asked. âReally Sam? Sex on prom night is a little... American, is it not?â Alana judged. âAt least weâve been together for most of this year! Watch, I predict that, before long, Nathaniel will be whisking you away to his apartment for a night of dirty bad fun!â Sam spat. âWell, youâre both being given extra protection that night!â Lynne huffed. âRelax Lynne! You remember when you were their age! You took that poet and you both got caught doing it in his parentâs bed at the after party!â Agatha laughed. Lynne instantly looked horrified. âThe girls did not know that story. Thanks for that.â She gasped. âLynne, that is not the craziest thing youâve done.â Seraphina joked. âOh, yeah! What about that time she ran off with the Black Knight from that Ren Faire?â Agatha asked. âArenât you still wondering if heâs Melodyâs father?â Verity asked. âWait, what? Mom, is my biological father the Black Knight?â Alana asked, confused. âEnough! Melody, what does it matter? You are a Roster. You are my daughter, and if you choose to take on the role, you will be the head of the family when I step down.â Lynne boomed. âGeez mom... I was just asking...â Alana blurted out as she looked at her mother, bewildered. âWell... Ladies, I think we have found the perfect dresses for the girls! Theyâll need to be fitted one more time a couple of days before the event, so Iâll need them here on this day at this time.â Giselle announced as she tapped on a tablet and showed it to Lynne. âWe can do that. How much is this going to cost?â Lynne nodded. âDonât worry about the cost, Lynne. Iâm paying for it.â Verity beamed.
Later that day, the group of women sat at the top garden table at Across The Universe and ate their food. âDid you hear? The Royal Family has ordered that the new Cultural Center thatâs being built in Amouria become the tallest building on this side of Europe. And they want it done in record time.â Verity chattered. âReally? Did they throw out the original builders?â Lynne asked. âYeah. Apparently, theyâve gotten architects, engineers, and designers from Dubai to take over the project with the orders to get it done in five years.â Verity explained. âThatâs gonna suck for this place... Across The Universe is known for having the highest restaurant on this side of Europe. Whatâs gonna happen if another tower blocks the view from up here?â Alana asked. âThe tower is only going to block the view of the mountains. We can still see the sea from up here.â Verity clarified. âWell... Weâll have to visit the top observation deck when its finished.â Sam chuckled. âI think so too! Itâll be fun!â Agatha mused. âAnother family outing for the future? Iâm okay with that.â Seraphina nodded.
â
âWell! My dress is going to be from the best designer in France!â Amber boasted. âAh... Yes, what crime did your father have to commit to get Antoine Moulin to sell you one of his pieces?â Sam cackled as she and Alana walked past Amber and her crew in the main hallway. âHe didnât commit any crime! Anyway, itâll be better than anyone who sold you two dresses!â Amber spat. âAs if Giselle Baudelaire is a hack...â Alana smirked. âHow did YOU get dresses from Regalia?â Li asked, insulted. âAunt Verity often gets clothes from her shop. She was quite happy to service the Roster Clan.â Alana chuckled. âYou keep forgetting something major, sweetheart... By basic societal standards, compared to us, you are vermin. We choose to not be aristocracy... But that doesnât stop King Julius from hoping that his little son will pick one of the two of us for his bride. That doesnât stop the Astier Clan from praying to the gods that, one day, we will finally take the titles that they have been trying to give our family ever since the first true Astarian King ascended the throne.â Sam snickered. âThat also doesnât stop the legends of our family being monster hunters from continuing to stand the test of time. And donât get me started on how the history of the Roster Clan is also the history of the city of Weathering. Amber, we should not be forced to be somewhat classist towards you... Yet, here we are.â Alana remarked. âOh, by the way, its not just our dresses that are being done by Regalia...â Sam began. âWhat do you mean?â Amber angrily inquired. âNathaniel and Kentin are getting their suits from there as well.â Alana smirked.
â
The closer Prom got, the more excited everyone became. Not long after Prom, Graduation would happen and everyone would be off to college. Although, Alana had started taking longer looks at her mother at times, as Lynne had begun coughing more and more with each passing day. âSheâs probably just got something in her throat! I wouldnât worry too much about it!â Rosalaya cheered. âFor several days straight?â Alana asked. âYou know your mom. Iâm sure sheâll go to the doctor and see that sheâs right as rain!â Rosalaya reassured her. âI really hope youâre right... Sheâs been spending an awful lot of time around Carol too...â Alana sadly sighed. âAlana... Your mom is going to be okay! Its not your job to worry about her health and make sure sheâs good. Now, focus on the fact that, in just a couple more days, youâll be dancing the night away with your prince charming!â Rosalaya mused. âYouâre right! I should be more focused on looking amazing for when Iâm able to be in Nathanielâs arms as his princess!â Alana cooed.
â
âI canât believe the girls are off to their Senior Prom!â Lynne coughed as the girls finished prepping for the event. âLynne, donât stress yourself too much! The doctors still donât know whatâs wrong!â Verity soothed. âIâm gonna be fine! Iâm just excited to see my daughters all dressed up!â Lynne hissed. Sam stepped out of her room as she straightened out the bottom of her dress. âWatch out! Thisâll probably be the last time you see me dressed up like this!â Sam confidently snapped. âThis will definitely not be the last time you see me dressed like this! I love it too much!â Alana cheered as she stepped out of her room and joined her sister. The girls wore their clothes with pride. Samâs hair was pulled over to her right side in a simple hair tie and decorated with a shiny green hair ribbon. Alanaâs hair was done in a princess like up-do with flowers along the top like a crown. âLook at my girls!â Lynne had begun to sob as she and Agatha instantly jumped into a frenzy of photo taking. Alana looked at Verity with pleading eyes and mouthed âHelp us!â. âCome on now ladies! Iâm sure the boys are waiting right outside the door, too nervous to knock! Letâs get our princesses to their princes and the young couples to their carriage!â Verity excitedly urged. âBut the boys arenât even here yet!â Agatha whined. âActually, theyâre both outside. Kentin is freaking out over the fact that you guys have a limo waiting for us!â Sam pointed out as she put her phone back in her bag. âWait, you guys have a limo for us? I thought you guys didnât like that level of pageantry!â Alana blurted out. âIts your Senior Prom. You only get one! Let us have our fun and make you two the stars of this show!â Lynne mused. âNow, come on you four! Get in front of the limo so we can take pictures!â Agatha cheered. âFirst all four of you, then we want pics of the girls, then the boys, then each couple!â Lynne demanded.Â
What felt like hours passed before the women would let them into the limo and send them off to the event. âI know that was only a few minutes, but it felt like an eternity!â Sam whined as the car pulled away from the apartment. âIâm not even sure why they got a limo.... The apartment isnât even that far from the school...â Alana commented. âI think its sweet. Your family adores you two enough to shower you with love and affection, and make a fuss over you when its important.â Nathaniel smiled. âWell... The one thing Iâm looking forward to the most is dancing the night away in your arms.â Alana cooed as she looked at him lovingly. âI-I canât wait to spend the whole evening with you... My princess.â He whispered into her ear. Excitement instantly shot through Alanaâs nerves like a bolt of electricity and radiated throughout her body. âWatch it you two... Mom did offer to get us both hotel rooms in case we wanted to have our own little âafter partiesâ...â Sam cackled. âWHAT?!â Nathaniel and Kentin blurted out in unison. âYeah... Apparently Momâs Prom was crazy... So sheâs got funds set aside for whatever we might need... Including hotel rooms and extra protection...â Sam explained. âIs this true?â Nathaniel asked Alana, bewildered. âYep.â Alana nodded. âHoly hell...â Kentin gasped. âI d-donât think w-weâll need a h-hotel room tonight...â Nathaniel blushed. âIâm not sure if weâre there just yet.â Alana blushed. âThe fuck youâre not?! Youâve been wanting to mount him for a while!â The voice in her head boomed. âWe havenât been together long! Its not appropriate!â She thought back. âSuit yourself... Weâll probably have other plans...â Sam smirked. âLadies and gentlemen, we have arrived.â The driver announced as he pulled the limo to a stop. âYou ready for this?â Alana asked Nathaniel. âOf course.â He sweetly smiled.
The driver opened the door and the two couples were hit by a tsunami of clicking cameras, lights, and people rushing to greet them. âGUYS! You look amazing!â Rosalaya cheered. âThanks you and Leigh look fantastic!â Alana mused as she hugged Rosa. âThank you!â Rosa beamed. Several members of the Photography Club took their pictures as Rosa walked ahead of the group and lead them into the Gym. âDance floor?â Sam asked Ken. âAlready?â Ken inquired. âYes.â Sam blushed. âOkay then.â Ken smiled as he began leading her to the center of the dancefloor. The DJ began to play âClarityâ by Zedd featuring Foxes. "Look who it is!â Armin beamed when he saw them. âHey! You donât look too shabby!â Alana chuckled. âHey man!â Nathaniel smiled. âYou two look great!â Iris cooed. âDid you not get a date?â Alana asked. âNah. Decided to come stag with Alexy.â Armin shrugged. âAh, thatâs sweet.â She smiled. âI hope we dance to a really romantic song...â She thought. âAh... Yes... The DJ will most likely play âA Thousand Yearsâ and Nathaniel will whisk you onto the dancefloor.â The voice in her head snickered. âI actually hope that happens!â She thought back. âA bunch of us girls came as a group! Melody is hanging out with Peggy. Kim is over there dancing with Violette. Priya has already teased Amber for not being asked by anyone. And Lysander and Castiel came stag.â Iris explained as she pointed everyone out. âKim and Violette look great together! Almost like a couple!â Alana cheered. âI donât see it.â Nathaniel shrugged. âI do.â Priya chuckled as she walked up to them.
âNathaniel and Alana look great together.â Lysander pointed out as he and Castiel stood by a secluded set of chairs. âI suppose they do...â Castiel huffed. âDo you really love her?â Lysander quietly asked. âI think I do.â Castiel nodded. âThen you should be happy that sheâs happy.â Lysander sighed. âI should have asked her... I should have taken my shot a while ago.â Castiel muttered. âBut, you didnât. You canât dwell on what you should have done. Focus on what youâre going to do moving forward. Just be happy that youâre her friend.â Lysander reassured. âYouâre not wrong... I just... Wish she wasnât so out of reach.â Castiel sighed. âSo, youâre actually pining over her?â Rosalaya asked as she and Leigh walked up to them. âHe is.â Lysander nodded. âI mean... Whose to say that she and Nathaniel will be together forever? Theyâre not as established as Leigh and me. Maybe sometime down the road, youâll have your chance.â Rosa shrugged as she put her hand on Castielâs shoulder. The four of them looked at Nathaniel and Alana, who were laughing and making jokes with Sam, Kentin and Armin. The song âMan On A Wireâ by The Script had begun to play. âRosa, donât give him false hope. The best thing for him would be to just be happy that sheâs happy and theyâre friends.â Leigh pointed out. âLiterally what Lysander just said.â Castiel rolled his eyes.
âNathaniel, Alana! You guys look amazing!â Peggy beamed as she, Melody and Sharon walked up to them. âThank you! You three look sublime!â Alana cheered. âNot gonna lie, I kinda hope you two get Prom King and Queen.â Sharon mused. âItâd be nice if Amber doesnât get it.â Peggy remarked. âIâm kinda hoping that I get it.â Melody muttered. âI donât think Iâll get it. But I hope that whoever I voted for does.â Alana smiled. âWho did you vote for?â Sharon asked. âRosalaya.â Alana replied. âSheâd be a great Prom Queen.â Peggy nodded. âNathaniel, who did you vote for?â Melody asked. âIâm not gonna say. Iâd rather just see who won.â Nathaniel stated. âA very diplomatic answer from a very diplomatic person.â Sharon grinned. âA good quote for the next issue of the School Newspaper!â Peggy cooed. âItâll be the final edition with you two running the club, isnât it?â Alana asked. âYeah! But our apprentices are gonna handle it well. I have faith in them.â Sharon assured. âNatasha and Nick are good kids.â Peggy agreed. âI kinda hope that you two get the crowns.â Kim grinned as she and Violette approached them. âI think you two would be great.â Violette chirped. âWhen will they announce the winners?â Alana asked. âShould be soon. They wanna do it before they begin the slow dances.â Sharon explained.
It wasnât long before the DJ stopped the music and Mr. Faraize took to the stage. âGood evening everyone! I hope you are all having fun on this lovely night!â He greeted. Several students cheered âYEAH!â in response. âGood! Not too much fun I hope!â He chuckled before his face turned a little serious. âHistorically, Sweet Amouris High School has never taken part in the tradition of âProm Royaltyâ. Unlike most high schools, weâve never seen the point in this kind of popularity contest. However, this year, we resolved to change that. Other schools throughout our country have adopted this American tradition as a form of pageantry and weâve decided to join in on the âfunâ. You seniors have worked very hard and earned more celebration than just a dance. So, while only four of you will be receiving tiaras and crowns tonight; Just know, youâre all kings and queens to us.â He began. Mr. Faraize motioned for the DJ to begin playing very low music as Boris brought out a rolling table with two sets of tiaras and crowns on it. Boris then handed a very large pink envelope to Mr. Faraize, who then took out and unfolded a large piece of paper. âYour Sweet Amouris High School Prom King and Queen Runners Up are Alana Roster and Nathaniel Jacott!â He announced. âYAY!â, âGO ALANA AND NATHANIEL!â, âYOU GUYS DESERVE IT!â several students cheered. âWhat?!â Alana gasped. âMels! Nath! Go! Get crowned!â Sam huffed as she pushed the pair towards the stage. âGo! Leigh and I made the crowns and tiaras for this!â Rosalaya urged as the students made a path for the pair to get to the stage. Nathaniel took Alanaâs arm and proudly escorted her to the stage. âCongratulations you two!â Boris cheered as they bowed their heads before them. He placed the silver crown and tiara on their heads with great care. âThe tiaras look like something straight out of Barbie: Princess Charm School.â Alana thought. âThe crowns look like theyâre right out of Disney movies.â The voice in her head piped up. When Nathaniel and Alana took their places by Boris on the stage, Mr. Faraize looked at the paper in his hand. âYour Sweet Amouris High School Prom King and Queen are Castiel Veilmont and Rosalaya de Meilhan!â He announced. âCastiel is Prom King but Iâm not Prom Queen! This was rigged!â Amber shouted. âIâm not gonna get that crown.â Castiel huffed. âCome on! You won, fair and square. Now get over yourself and get crowned!â Rosalaya glared daggers into him as she grabbed his hand and dragged him up to the stage. Once the gold crown and tiara were on Castielâs and Rosalayaâs heads, Boris instructed the four of them to stand on stage and pose long enough for photos to be taken and the balloons to be dropped from the net. The DJ turned the music up and started playing âItâs Timeâ by Imagine Dragons. âSo? You and Leigh made the headwear? They look like you took them straight out of Disney and Barbie movies!â Alana laughed. âI was told to make them go with the theme of the school and that if this goes well, Leigh would be commissioned to make them every year for each class!â Rosa resounded. âThey look fantastic Rosa!â Nathaniel mused. âI was hoping you two would be King and Queen. But, Iâm happy that you guys at least got the Runners Up!â Rosa smiled. âI actually voted for you and Castiel to be King and Queen.â Alana happily shrugged. âYou voted for me to be Prom King?â Castiel blushed. âYeah, I thought it would be nice. The bad boy with the heart of gold getting some recognition for once.â Alana grinned.
The second they were allowed off stage, they took the opportunity to rejoin everyone. Student after student began to walk up to them and congratulate them. âI expect a picture perfect slow dance you two!â Sharon ordered Nathaniel and Alana. âI think we can make that happen!â Nathaniel blushed as he looked at Alana lovingly. âHey, have any of you seen Amber?â Li asked as she walked up to them. âNo. I havenât even heard her since she got pissed about not winning.â Nathaniel shrugged. âShe might be in the girls bathroom. Iâll go look.â Alana sighed as she walked towards the locker room. The sight that greeted her was absolutely horrific. âI THINK IâM GONNA VOMIT!â The voice in her head piped up. Amber was in the locker room. However, she was pressed up against the wall, lip locked with Armin. Alana quickly grabbed her phone, held it up high enough to get the pair into frame, quietly took a picture, slipped her phone back into her pocket and silently left the locker room. âWhy did you take a picture of that sin?!â The voice in her head asked. âIn case either of them piss me off in the future.â She thought back. âAre you gonna tell Nathaniel?â The voice in her head asked. âNo. Iâm not gonna tell Nathaniel that his best friend was in the locker room making out with his sister.â She thought back. âWhy not?â The voice asked. âBecause its not appropriate. If they feel like he needs to know, one of them will tell him.â She thought back. âDid you find her?â Nathaniel asked, almost a little frantic the second he saw her come out of the locker room. âDonât worry. Sheâs just in there cleaning herself up and putting herself back together after her little tantrum. Sheâll be fine.â Alana reassured him.
Shortly after Amber emerged from the locker room, she ran up to Nathaniel and demanded a dance from her brother. âNATHANIEL! Dance with me!â She whined. âAmber! I was gonna dance with Alana.â Nathaniel called back. âGive your sister a dance, we will have our slow dance before the night is done.â Alana smiled. âDoes this mean I get a dance with the Runner Up?â Castiel smirked as he sauntered over to them. âNo.â Nathaniel shot. âNathaniel! He and I are JUST FRIENDS! Itâd be like if Armin asked me for a dance! Go be a good brother and dance with your sister!â Alana huffed. Nathaniel gave her a look that said âAre you sure?â. âYes.â Alana reassured him. âOkay. Amber, letâs go.â Nathaniel looked at his sister and sighed. âShall we?â Castiel asked as he lead Alana to the dance floor. The DJ began to play âEverything You Wantâ by Vertical Horizon. âIs this really a song to dance to?â Alana pondered. âI would have thought you could dance to anything.â Castiel bantered. He pulled her closer to him and lead her into more of a waltz. âI mean... Its kind of weird for Nathaniel and his sister to dance to this song...â Alana replied. âSo, its not weird for us to dance to it?â Castiel inquired. âIts not as if youâre interested in me, right? Youâve made it clear that you and I are just good friends. That the girls youâre actually into have bigger... Assets... And arenât into pop music at all, like I am. Even if you were into me, you know you wouldnât be able to be with me. Iâm with Nathaniel.â Alana articulated. Castiel did everything in his power to hide the fact that Alanaâs words were like a shot to the chest to him. âYeah... I donât like girls who sing to Taylor Swift!â He laughed. âWho told you!â Alana blurted out. âYou did, just now!â His laughter boomed. âI like her music! Sue me!â Alana huffed. The song turned to âJust The Way You Areâ by Bruno Mars. âAnyway... Seriously, why did you nominate me for Prom King?â He asked as he looked deep into her eyes. âI wasnât lying when I said what I said on stage. Cass, donât get me wrong, youâre a jackass. But, underneath it all, youâre a really great guy with a very kind heart. Despite everything, even your own pride, you end up doing whatâs right... Even if you need to be slapped first. Hell, you even put aside your differences with Nathaniel to help him get away from his father. Its obvious that you put the needs of the people you care about above your own. You made that crystal clear when Lysander got hurt. Everyone talks about how Rosa, Lysander, Alexy, Nathaniel, Sam and I all help people and show kindness... But, they never talk about how sweet and selfless you actually are. I thought you deserved some recognition.â She explained. The shot to Castielâs chest was then worsened by one of Cupidâs arrows going through the hole. He quickly twirled her around so in an effort to keep her from seeing him blush. He looked up and noticed Nathaniel staring daggers into him. As the song came to a close, he stopped their dance and kissed her hand. âIâm really glad youâre my friend.â He muttered barely loud enough for her to hear. âWatch it Cass! You donât want everyone finding out your secret!â Alana chuckled. She pulled out her phone, wrote up a text and sent it before rejoining Nathanielâs side. Castiel felt his phone vibrate, pulled it out, read the message smiled and walked back over to Lysander. âI guess, she really will always be just out of reach for me.â He muttered.
âIâm really glad youâre my friend, too.â
                           - MR
âYou and Castiel danced for at least two songs. He must have really wanted to talk! Although, I donât know WHAT he would have wanted to talk to YOU about!â Amber huffed. âYou know what, Amber? Everyone knows that youâve been wanting to dance with him all night. You threw a fit a few minutes ago over the fact that he got crowned Prom King and you werenât his Queen! Go and take charge of your life for once and ask him! The worst he can do is say ânoâ!â Alana blurted out. âYEAH!â, âYOU TELL HER ALANA!â several students cheered. âAfter heâs danced with you? I could never!â Amber scoffed. âWhat do you have to lose?! Its the end of the year and after graduation, you donât know if youâll ever see him again.â Alana raised an eyebrow. âFine!â Amber huffed she gathered her confidence and walked over to Castiel. âWhat did you two talk about?â Nathaniel asked. âHe just wanted more of an explanation as to why I nominated him for Prom King.â Alana flatly replied. âWhy didnât you nominate me?â He pushed a little further. âBecause it would have been conceited for me to nominate my own boyfriend for it. I nominated Cass and Rosa for King and Queen and then Sam and Ken for the Runners Up.â She clarified. Nathaniel looked down, almost a little embarrassed. âI nominated us for King and Queen and Sam and Ken for the Runners Up.â He muttered. A wave of love crashed into Alana. âOh my god! Nathaniel! Youâre too cute! You know that, right?â She gushed. âReally? You just said that you thought nominating us was conceited.â Nathaniel sputtered. âYeah, but you still did it! I thought you would have nominated someone else! Its cute!â Alana cooed. The couple looked at the dancefloor and watched Sam melt into Kenâs arms as the DJ played âNever Knew I Neededâ by Ne-Yo. âI think they should have gotten some form of recognition.â Nathaniel commented. âYeah, but at least theyâre happy for us getting it.â Alana smiled. âYour sister is such a hard-ass. Even though sheâs been with Ken all this time, its still weird to see her vulnerable.â Nathaniel observed. âSam is only this way because she wants me to be the soft one out of the two of us. But it is good to see her be soft every once in a while.â Alana replied. âCome on Castiel! You danced with Alana!â Amber called as Castiel walked away from her. âAlanaâs not a self absorbed, whiny, entitled, brat like you! Find someone else to dance with you!â Castiel shouted back. He continued walking in the direction of the courtyard. âWell... I was wrong. He did say something worse than âNo.â... Whoops!â Alana shrugged. âI should go console her.â Nathaniel suggested. âNo, Nathaniel. Sheâs a grown woman, she can handle this rejection. Aside from that, Li is here and can be there for her if need be.â Alana shook her head. âI mean... Heâs not wrong.â Armin commented as he joined the pair. âWhy donât you ask her to dance? Youâre her brotherâs best friend, it might be considered doing him a favor.â Alana suggested. âMe? No.â Armin began. He turned to Nathaniel and put his hand on his shoulder. âNo offense, man... But your sister is a beast.â Armin cringed. âThatâs not what I saw earlier!â Alana thought. âSend Armin the pic of him kissing Amber!â the voice in her head cheered. âNope! He hasnât pissed me off!â Alana thought back. âYeah... I know.â Nathaniel exhaustedly sighed. Alana rolled her eyes. âI still think it would be nice. Go take one for the team!â She urged. âNah! But if you wanna dance, let me know! As it is, I think Iâm gonna go see if Alexy needs me for anything!â Armin rushed off.
âAlright everyone! I havenât seen our Runners Up formally take to the dance floor! Itâs time to change that!â Boris announced as he took the mic from the DJ. âMister DJ, we all know that Miss Roster and Mister Jacott are the âBig Couple On Campusâ, so play them something extra special!â He requested, his voice sounding more flamboyant than usual. A spotlight was then turned to Nathaniel and Alana and followed them as they made their way to the center of the dancefloor. As the first notes to âA Thousand Yearsâ by Christina Perri began to play, Nathaniel stood before her and bowed. âMay I have this dance, my queen?â He lovingly asked. Tears instantly came to Alanaâs eyes. âYou may, my king.â She purred as he took one hand in hers and placed his other hand on the center of the top of her back. She placed her other hand on his right shoulder. âFUCKING FINALLY!â The voice in Alanaâs head shouted. âWhen did you learn how to dance like this?â She asked Nathaniel as he lead her into a very elegant slow dance. âMy parents thought it would be proper for Amber and me to learn it.â He did his best to hide the pain of mentioning his parents. âAnd you?â He asked. âMy two best friends are part of the aristocracy. Aunt Verity and Aunt Cosima convinced my mom to put Sam and me in the same classes as Viktor and Rini.â She explained. âIâll have to thank Verity when I finally get a chance to formally meet her. And, maybe, I can thank your aunt Cosima at her grave one day.â he blushed. âThat sounds like a really nice idea.â She admitted. As they continued to dance, the song changed to âA Thousand Years Part Twoâ, as if the DJ knew their dance needed to be longer. âAlana... I love you.â Nathaniel admitted as they swept across the dancefloor. âWhat?!â Alana breathed. She looked into his eyes, a combination of love and shock overcoming her facial expression. âLook, I know weâre only seventeen years old. That this is high school romance. That we could grow old and grow apart one day. But, I need to tell you, now. Melody Alana Roster, I love you. I donât know what the future holds. And I canât promise that you and I will always be together. But I love you. Iâve loved you almost since the first day you walked through that classroom door. And I love you now.â Nathaniel professed. The song changed to âThis I Promise Youâ by *NSYNC while Alana gathered her thoughts and they prolonged their dance. She wanted to give him this massive speech of how much sheâs loved him since her early days at Sweet Amoris. However, the only words that truly fit the moment were short and sweet. âNathaniel... I love you too. I love you with everything I have.â She almost began weeping as she spoke. Her mind then turned to the idea of walking down the aisle to meet him and become his wife. âEither you become a Jacott, or he becomes a Roster!â The voice in her head piped up. âI have a feeling that, if he and I do get married, heâll become a Roster.â She quickly thought back. As the songs ended, the two shared a deep, romantic, kiss. âI love you, my sweet Melody.â He purred. âI love you too, my darling Nathaniel.â She cooed.
âAlright, sis! Take your stuff back. Ken and I are getting out of here!â Sam announced as she stormed the dancefloor and handed Alana her purse back to her. âYou could have waited for us to get off of the dancefloor?! You didnât see me ruining YOUR moment!â Alana exasperated. âYeah, well... I think its high time I go make Ken a man!â Sam announced. âYou also didnât need to announce that to the whole school! You donât see Rosa and Leigh announcing their âafter prom plansâ to everyone!â Alana barked. âI know! But I knew it would make you two uncomfortable! Letâs go Ken!â Sam laughed as she started walking out of the gym. âSorry guys! You two looked amazing and it was a lot of fun!â Ken shrugged before he followed Sam out. Alana looked down for a minute. âWhatâs wrong?â Nathaniel asked. âYou know... We could take the offer to get a hotel room...â Alana suggested as her face became a deep shade of red. âNo.â Nathaniel shook his head. âWhy not?â Alana nervously inquired. âI donât want your first time to be in some random hotel room. Alana, I have the chance to make your first time as special as possible... And Iâm going to do exactly that. You deserve it.â He sweetly smiled as he caressed the side of her face with his fingertips. âOh Nathaniel...â Alana breathed. âI love you Alana. When I finally lay you down, I want you to enjoy every second of it. Even if it means I end up doing all the clichĂŠ stuff to turn my apartment into the most romantic place in the world.â He purred.
As the night drew to a close, Alana couldnât keep her mind off of the idea of making love with Nathaniel. She wanted it. She knew she wanted it. And she knew that she wanted her first time to be with him. Out of all of the other boys sheâd ever met, and between him and Viktor, she wanted to give herself to Nathaniel completely. âMaybe after graduation?â the voice in her head asked. âIâm not sure. But I hope its soon.â She thought back. Nathaniel took her back to her apartment, only for the two of them to discover a note taped to the front door. âMom says that sheâs sleeping at Agathaâs tonight. She and Seraphina got into a bit of a drinking game and they both basically lost. Iâve got the apartment to myself.â She explained as Nathaniel gave her a questioning look. âWell, thatâs almost convenient.â He blushed. âYou could stay the night, rather than walk all the way back to your apartment...â She suggested. âI could... But, Blanche is probably missing me... And I would have to sleep in nothing but my underwear...â Nathaniel replied. âYou could go home in the morning after I make us breakfast. Iâm sure Blanche has enough food and water to get through to tomorrow... And, its not like its the first time weâve been in bed together with you in nothing but your underwear and me in pajamas... Its just, this time would be under much better circumstances.â Alana urged. âSocietal pressure would dictate....â Nathaniel began. âAs it is, its also not like weâd be doing anything sexy anyway! Iâm too tired to give informed consent! Weâd just be sleeping in the same bed and waking up together! At most, weâll end up spooning or maybe getting in a couple of kisses! And thatâs IF Sylvester doesnât decide to sleep on top of us!â Alana nervously chuckled. Nathaniel thought for a couple of minutes. âAlright. But, next time, youâre sleeping at my place.â He yawned. âOf course!â Alana smiled as she let out a long yawn.
Several memories passed through Alanaâs mind as she held her sleeping boyfriend in her arms. The memory of the day they met. The first time he made her heart beat fast. Their argument when she exposed the abuse his father put him through. The day she helped him get Blanche. The hug he gave her when she slipped and fell out of the tree in the park and was caught by Castiel. The party at Irisâ house. The attempt at a double date with Rosa and Leigh. Their first kiss in the Sweet Amoris High School library. The fresh memories of Prom. The memories then shifted into hopeful visions of their future. The first time they make love. Going to college together. Introducing him to all of her family in Scotland and Ireland. Becoming his wife. One vision finally pushed Alana into the realm of dreams and sleep... The vision of herself, one day, holding their newborn.
This technically covers episode 39.
Giselle Baudelaire is a reference to Giselle from Enchanted, and the Baudelaire family from A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I know that Prom King and Queen and the runners up are typically an American thing... But, I wanted to include them in this chapter. I was gonna make Lysander Prom King, but I figured Castiel would be more popular according to High School Hierarchy.
The cultural center tower thatâs mentioned in the Dress Shopping section is what ultimately becomes The Black Tower.
Lynne coughing sets up her getting sick and having to leave the country for treatment.
Antoine Moulin is a slight reference to Moulin Rouge and Marie Antoinette.
Natasha and Nick (Peggyâs and Sharonâs apprentices) are also Marvel references. Just as I have Peggy and Sharon referencing Peggy and Sharon Carter, Natasha references Natasha Romanoff and Nick references Nick Fury.

I wanted to bring this song up, but couldnât find the right place for it.
I was honestly considering making that final paragraph more nsfw... But I decided against it and wanted to make it more sweet and romantic. With the way the story goes, every last thing that Alana envisions for their future comes to pass.
Trigger Warning: This chapter covers Episode 23 of My Candy Love. If you are triggered by discussions of abuse, or abuse scenes, please skip this chapter.
It had been a couple of days since Alana set Operation Purity Chalice into motion. People at school were very thrown off by Amber actually showing civility and a small glimmer of attempted friendship to her. âWhy are you and Amber friends now? You do know sheâs using you, right?â Nathaniel asked as he and Alana walked towards the courtyard. âI know she is... But sheâs been tormenting me since I got here and its nice to not have her bullying be so bad. I give her fancy stuff, and get her closer to V, and she makes an effort to not be so horrible to me. It is a bit of a win-win situation for now.â She explained. Nathaniel looked down for a second, almost a little guilty. âHey! Its okay! Let me reassure you, even if your father did get close to V, Rini and Viktor, there is absolutely no way heâd get what he wants. The closest someone has ever come to that is what Vâs husband did and even then, he had to get uncle Cyrusâ approval!â Alana reassured. âUncle Cyrus?â Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. âVerityâs father. Its this whole thing about him not wanting V to marry a traditional aristocrat, so when Achille came along and proved that his family hasnât been aristocratic in years, Cyrus approved of the marriage... Much to Momâs, Agathaâs and Aunt Câs disgust.â Alana clarified. âAlana...â Nathaniel began. âLook, Iâm going to be okay. V already knows what your father wants and sheâs promised me that he isnât getting it.â She smiled as she put her hand on his cheek.
Later that day, Castiel stormed up to her with Demon on his leash as she was buying a new set of expensive pajamas. âWhat the hell, Alana?!â He called. âWhat?â She asked, curiously. âWhy is Amber saying that you and I arenât friends anymore, that she âwonâ?â He demanded to know. âAmber came up to me and told me that if I swear that I wonât get romantically involved with you, then she wonât terrorize me at school. I never said anything about us not being friends anymore.â She explained. âWhy would she demand that?â He inquired. âI think it was an excuse. Its obvious that her father wants to get closer to my familyâs aristocratic friends so that they may elevate their station. Not to mention, I do think she actually does have a thing for you and it was probably the first excuse she could come up with that didnât involve revealing her fatherâs true intentions.â She clarified. âBut I donât like her like that. I made that clear years ago.â He spat. âI kind of figured you had... But, she seems to think youâre in love with me and therefore this would be an easy thing for us to agree to. I am still your friend Castiel... But I need her abuse to stop, so I agreed to this. Please understand it.â She urged. âBut, Alana...â He began. âLook, the only way it will cause a problem with us is if you want to be romantically involved with me. Which, is preposterous, right? Just because my sister makes jokes about it all the time doesnât mean you actually wanna be with me? Right?â She chuckled. A flicker of disappointment and a slight broken heart washed over Castielâs face. He quickly buried his actual feelings, chested up and laughed. âRight! Who would ever wanna be with a meddling ironing board like you?!â He nervously laughed as he took Demon and quickly left. âCastiel you ass!â Alana called back, slightly sarcastically. She looked at the pajamas in the bag. âTheyâre fox pajamas... And theyâre more expensive than what I usually spend on this type of thing... But I really donât need her to see my anime and Harry Potter stuff...â She sighed to herself as she walked out of the store.
As Lynneâs car pulled up in front of the Jacott residence, Alana felt her nerves catch fire. âOkay, no turning back now.â She thought. When Lynne parked, she turned to look at her daughter. âMelody, why are you doing this? I donât know why that girl is being nice to you. But I do know it seems like she wants to get closer to Verity. What is going on?â She asked. Alana looked down for a minute, then back up at her mother with conviction. âMom, please... Stay out of this. If I need your help, I will come to you myself.â She sighed. âAre you sure?â Lynne looked brokenhearted. âYes. Iâve got this.â Alana slightly smiled. âAlright... I trust you. But, please, come to me if you need help.â Lynne sighed. âI will.â Alana grinned as she opened the door and stood in front of the gate. âThis house isnât bad.â The voice in her head piped up. âIts boring. Everything looks like a modern version of an aristocratic estate. Even the gate has nothing to make it stand out.â She thought back. The gate opened minutes after she rang the bell and revealed Nathaniel looking at her with a confused look on his face. âAlana? What are you doing here?â He asked, almost a little terrified. âYour sister wanted to do a sleep over with me, so I came.â Alana shrugged. âAlana, I told you, sheâs using you...â Nathaniel worriedly blurted out in as much of a hushed tone as he could manage. âAlana! Welcome to our home!â Amber called as she excitedly walked up to them. âAmber! It looks lovely! Here! I brought you something! As a thank you for letting me into your home!â Alana beamed as she pulled a box out of her overnight bag. âIs that the case to the new designer make up that your godmother has access to?â Amber asked, bewildered. âYep! It wonât even be out until next year! But Vâs friend on the inside wanted to give out a few samples and I knew it would be a perfect thing for you!â Alana did her best to sound like a âyuppieâ as she gave Amber the case. âThank you so much! I love it!â Amber beamed. Alana thought she heard a hint of sincerity in Amberâs voice but brushed the idea off. âSheâs only being nice to me because she wants what she thinks I have to offer.â She thought.
âCome on Alana! Iâll show you around the house!â Amber beamed as she lead her into the main entryway. The entryway seemed like an attempt at being grand, without the true aristocratic touch. âNo paintings or pictures on the walls. A random blue chair by the staircase. A blue, white and red rug. Its boring. Thereâs no personality. No character.â Alana thought before she instantly reminded herself that she could not insult her hostsâ home. âIts so spacious and lovely!â She cheered. Her mind turned to the main entryway of the Roster Family Home in Weathering. Alana had always been told that the main Roster Family Home was bought by her great great grandmother, however, that was clearly a lie. It was obvious that the home and the land it sat on had been in the family for much longer. The main entryway in her family home had pictures and paintings hung in it. There werenât many spots on the walls that were left empty. Throughout the years, with each generation, the configuration of the walls would change to showcase the latest members. But, the character and spirit never changed. The Jacott Home came off as too clean to Alana. Too sterile. She wondered if Francis and Adelaide even wanted to show off their family. âYouâd think thereâd at least be a portrait on the wall in here.â She thought. âYou havenât even seen the best part!â Amber mused as she lead her to the dining room. Yet again, another sterile room that flowed into a breakfast nook and the kitchen. There were flowers on the table, a modern chandelier hung over the dining table and a bland painting was neatly placed on the wall, but that was it. âThere arenât even curtains for the windows. Who designed this interior?â Alana thought, getting a bit more disturbed by the style of the home. âLove the modern kitchen!â She chirped. âIts the best of the best!â Amber delightedly cooed. âAnd the painting? Its fascinating.â Alana observed. âIt was done by a super well known modern artist! Although, I canât quite remember who... But my dad is quite proud of it!â Amber crowed. âSeems like he needs to get his money back.â The voice in Alanaâs head piped up. âShut up... It looks like something uncle Cyrusâ sister would buy.â Alana thought back.
Amber lead her upstairs to the homeâs second floor. There was one more flight of stairs going to a third floor, and several doors in the hallway of the second floor. âMom and Dadâs room take up the entire third floor. Their offices are in the doors behind you. Just be sure to not go around snooping in their bedroom and offices! I know how you like sticking your nose where it doesnât belong! The door next to the stairs is Nathanielâs bedroom. The one at the end of the hall is the bathroom. Yes, Nath and I share. But he knows better than to make a mess! And the door to our right is the best room in the house... Mine!â Amber proudly proclaimed. Even the hallway looked bland. There were two pictures on the walls. One right next to the doors to the two bedrooms. The picture next to Nathanielâs room was a painting of a field. The one next to Amberâs room was an older painting. Clearly an old, dead, Jacott relative. The only other thing decorating the hallway was a wooden table with a plain lamp on it. Amber opened the door to the bathroom to show Alana how it looked. It was a simple and modern room that had a large tub, a basic tile shower, a couple of cabinets in between the toilet and shower and a fake plant on the counter in between the sink and tub that covered up a small frosted glass window. âAnd now! The best room in the house!â Amber announced as she opened the door to her room. Suddenly, Alana was reminded of Dolores Umbridge. The room was saturated in the color pink. The only things that broke the color up were the items that were light purple, baby blue, yellow, white, and the occasional red item. The bed looked as if it had come straight out of a Barbie princess playset. âThis is not the least bit surprising.â She thought. âDoesnât this room look like an old playset you had when you were a kid?â The voice in her head piped up. âYUP! Almost as if itâs attempting to be a copy of either my Princess and the Pauper playset, my super old Princess Kelly castle, or my Twelve Dancing Princesses set.â She thought. Alana quickly came up with a compliment that she hoped would keep Amber rather smug for the rest of the night. âThis room is, certainly, colorful! It reminds me of my best friendâs room! Oh, right... My best friend is Aunt Vâs daughter, Severina Mekina. Riniâs room looks close to this! Just with a bit more purple!â She praised. Amber smiled, almost as if the compliment had meant the world to her. âIf the heir to the esteemed Mekina family has a room that looks like mine, then Iâm clearly doing the right thing!â Amber approved.
After several more minutes of Amber going around her room, bragging about each and every little thing that she could think might make Alana jealous, everyone was summoned to the dining room for the eveningâs meal. âThat was torture.â the voice in her head piped up. âNo... That was the beginning. This dinner is going to be torture.â She thought back as she entered the dining room. Nathaniel was already in the room, setting the table, as if he had been programmed to do so like a robot. Alana could tell that he was doing everything in his power to keep his face as expressionless, polite, and calm as he possible. However, his nerves were clearly getting the better of him. âMiss Roster. Welcome to our home.â Adelaide politely smiled, obviously having forgotten Alanaâs name. âIts good to see you Melody. Welcome to our estate. It is nice to see someone other than Li and Charlotte walk these halls.â Francis greeted. âThank you both for welcoming me into your lovely home! Iâm so happy that Amber and I have been able to put our animosity aside and become friends. And, Mr. Jacott, with all due respect, please call me Alana.â Alana beamed as everyone but Nathaniel sat down. âIf you donât mind me asking, you and your sister have such pretty names... Why donât the two of you go by them?â Adelaide asked. âDespite the fact that we both like the names we were given. Melody and Samantha are lovely names, after all. By choosing to go by âAlanaâ and âSamâ we are taking our lives into our own hands and forging our own destinies. Most of the Roster Clan either goes by nicknames, middle names, or chooses to go by their given first names.â Alana clarified. Nathaniel walked into the kitchen, quickly came back holding a silver platter with a dome, set it on the table and lifted the dome revealing a freshly cooked lobster. âDinner is served!â He announced as he bowed and looked at his father. âBe seated.â Francis ordered, a stern look on his face. âLobster! This must be a special occasion!â Alana cooed. âDoes your family not eat seafood that often?â Francis asked, instantly turning more sweet. âWe eat seafood all the time. However, we prefer to source the meats that we bring to our tables from the farms and fishermen that surround the estates. If you ask any major member of the family, it wonât matter if its the Irish House, the Scottish House, or the Astarian House, we can tell you which farms and fishermen the meat, dairy, and produce come from. Several aristocratic families have taken our example and preferred a more âfarm to tableâ approach. Its simply the fact that, shellfish such as lobster and crab are left for more special occasions.â Alana explained. âAnd Iâm sure the aristocracy has different views.â Adelaide snidely commented as she sipped her drink. âNathaniel! Get your elbows off the table!â Francis hissed. Nathaniel obeyed without question. âSorry father.â He muttered. Suddenly, Alana felt her foot being crushed, obviously by Amberâs foot. âPathetic pest!â She thought. âThe aristocracy still believes in the outdated âsuperior bloodlines systemâ. They are going to believe whatever they like. It has never been the worry of the Roster Family. Astariaâs royal family uses our culinary system. In fact, its made their chefs strive harder for continued Michelin Star status.â She explicated as she presented her hosts with the stone faced resolve she had spent years cultivating.
As the evening progressed, Francis continued his verbal assault on Nathaniel. Raining down a barrage of hate and criticism under the guise of demanding perfection. Even going so far as to angrily bang the table when Nathaniel forgot the small spoons during the place setting after he brought desert out. âWhy does Nathaniel have to be perfect while Amber is allowed to text, be rude, and literally bully you? She doesnât even have to be polite at the dinner table!â The voice in her head piped up. âI have a hunch... And I hate the fact that I might be right.â She thought back. Alana wanted to comment on how Nathaniel is not Francisâ butler and that he should not be the one doing all of the brunt work, but she knew it would only worsen the situation. She brushed Francisâ apology for Nathanielâs forgetfulness off. âThis is getting to be textbook... Very similar to what Carol and Achille do...â She thought. When she offered to help Nathaniel with the clean up, Francis cut her off and told her that he needed to speak with his son and that her help was not necessary. When Francis finished his sentence, he looked at Nathaniel, sternly. Nathanielâs face instantly filled with a mixture of horror and dread. She didnât want to leave Nathaniel alone with his father, even for a second. Her mind turned to what Carol did to her behind her motherâs back. Each and every time Carol would insult, demean, and lightly strike her whenever no one was looking. Every time Carol would block her and Sam from telling their mother about what she was doing to them. Every time Carol threatened to do the unthinkable to them if they told anyone in the press. Alana didnât want to think about the idea that Nathaniel was suffering anything similar to the same kind of hell that she suffered, let alone a hell that he couldnât escape from without uprooting his whole life. But, all the signs were there, and she needed confirmation.
When she returned to Amberâs room, Amber tossed a pink pillow and an almost doll sized pink duvet at her. âWhat are these?â Alana asked, confused. âYour sleeping arrangements. Its not much, but you should be thankful that youâre even allowed to sleep in my room!â Amber sneered. âIâd rather sleep in your brotherâs room.â A quiet thought popped up in Alanaâs mind. âI brought my own pillow and blanket! But thank you for giving me what I need to make the floor more comfortable!â Alana beamed as she pulled a blue galaxy pillow with the Cancer constellation on the front and a blue galaxy blanket from her bag and began to make up her âbedâ. âWhy is all of your stuff blue and space themed?â Amber asked, annoyed. âWhy is all of your stuff pink?â Alana shot back. âPink is cute and girly. Now, answer my question.â Amber replied. âBlue is ethereal and calming. Its the color of the sky and stars. But, since weâre asking questions... How long have you and your family lived here?â Alana inquired. âSince we were kids. I suppose you wouldnât know what its like to still live in your childhood home.â Amber popped off. âActually, my family still owns the house I was born in. The house in Weathering has been in our family for generations. Its actually tradition for members of the family to leave it, so long as at least one member still lives in it.â Alana smirked as she grabbed her toiletries bag and her pajamas and left the room. As she entered the hallway, the only lights and sounds in the house were coming from the first floor. âI hope you donât intend on going where you donât belong, Miss Roster.â A voice called out to her and made her jump. Alana turned around and noticed Adelaide leaving her office. âWhatâs going on down there?â She asked. âMatters that are none of your business. Now, do whatever you need to do in the restroom then hurry back to Amberâs room.â Adelaide ordered as she went upstairs. âYes maâam.â Alana nodded as she went into the restroom. After she was done changing her clothes, applying her nightly face mask and cleaning her teeth, she passed through the hallway and could hear Francis and Nathaniel talking, but she still couldnât quite make out what they were saying. âYou have got to hear whatâs going on!â The voice in her head commanded. âTheyâre being too quiet, and Iâve been out here too long. Give me a minute!â She thought back as she went back into Amberâs room.
âWhat took you so long? And why do you have a face mask on?â Amber asked, very annoyed when Alana set her bag down. âDo you not exfoliate your face each morning and night? Aunt Verity has been sending Sam and me top dollar skin care since we first hit puberty. Its why our skin looks so fantastic. I have to go back and scrub it off in about five minutes. But, in the morning, my face will be glowing.â Alana smiled. âWell, those fox pajamas look cheap and ugly.â Amber shook her head, clearly caught off guard. âWhatever you say.â Alana smirked. Exactly five minutes later, Alana left the room to rinse her face when she was instantly frozen in place. Francisâ and Nathanielâs voices had gotten significantly louder. âHOW DARE YOU TALK BACK TO ME!â Francis yelled. âDad, thatâs not what I meant to say... Itâs not the end of the world...â Nathaniel pleaded. âNEVER WILL MEDIOCRATY BE TOLERATED UNDER THIS ROOF! NEVER!â Francisâ voice boomed. Fear continued to keep Alana frozen in place. Suddenly, the sound of a fist colliding with flesh resounded through the house. âHoly shit!â Alana thought as she quickly covered her mouth. âWe were right! His father does beat him!â The voice in her head almost yelped. âI knew it! All the signs were there!â She thought back. âGo wash the mask off your face and then see if you can get answers from Amber! You canât stay in the hall!â The voice in her head ordered. Without another thought, she ran to the restroom, washed her face and ran back to Amberâs room. âWhatâs wrong with you? Youâre all white. It looks like you just witnessed a murder.â Amber almost chuckled. âI just heard your dad and Nathaniel fighting. It seemed rather... Volatile and violent. Does that happen often?â Alana asked, still in shock. âWell, my parents are strict with him, its no big deal. He just gets into trouble when he is late, or that kind of thing. It makes me laugh, because I have so much more freedom than him.â Amber explained. âI see... Well, the restroom is free for you to change.â Alana looked down. âGood. I wouldnât want someone like you seeing me without my clothes on. My body is too good for your eyes.â Amber sneered as she walked out of the room with her pajamas in hand. A couple of minutes later, she came back into the room wearing a yellow spaghetti strap top and shorts set. âYou know? It is reassuring that, while both of our tastes can be quite expensive, they are vastly different.â Alana shrugged. âI would never wear something with an animal on it. Foxes are horrible creatures anyway.â Amber huffed. âIâve always figured you to be the type of person to favor poodles anyway.â Alana rolled her eyes. âYouâre wearing clothes for little girls.â Amber snickered. âI never said that I was here for a fashion show.â Alana remarked. âOh yeah, so why exactly did you come here? Iâd like to know.â Amber asked. âThe marks on your brotherâs back. Do you remember them?â Alana questioned. âWhat are you going to think up next?!â Amber spat. âCut the crap, Amber. You know full well what Iâm talking about.â Alana replied, flatly. âAre you going to talk to me about the whole cell phone thing again? I told you, it was just a way to get you to cough up the money. You thought I had information you needed, and I took advantage of it. Its not my fault if you believe in everything I say!â Amber blurted out. âSo, you actually donât know anything?â Alana interrogated. âI told you! I donât know how he got those. Are you deaf or what?!â Amber spat. âIts not that I donât appreciate talking about the times Iâve used you, but Iâm tired. So, on that note, I wish you a good night in your... Blankets.â She huffed as she crawled into bed and turned the lights out.
It didnât take long for Amber to start loudly snoring and the Jacott Household to be at the mercy of the night. âFinally. Now I can get some actual answers.â Alana thought as she quietly got up from her âbedâ and entered the hallway. âPlease donât be asleep... And please forgive me for everything I do from here on out, Nathaniel...â She thought. âI wonder if he sleeps nude...â The voice in her head piped up. âShut up, he probably sleeps in something more proper...â She thought back, her nerves catching a different kind of fire. âCome on girl! Get in there and find out!â The voice in her head commanded. She stood in front of Nathanielâs bedroom door and knocked three times very lightly. âWho is it?â Nathaniel asked from the other side. âIts Alana... Can I come in?â she asked very sweetly. âOkay, but be very quiet.â Nathaniel muttered after what felt like the longest minute of Alanaâs life. She very carefully opened the door, stepped into the room and closed the door behind her. Standing before her was a sight she had only seen in her late night fantasies... Nathaniel wearing nothing but a pair of black boxers that didnât leave much to the imagination. âIs everything alright?â He asked, concerned. âNath... We need to talk and youâre not leaving or brushing me off this time.â She blushed. âAnd you couldnât find a better moment than in the middle of the night?â He chuckled, his cheeks becoming red. âCONCENTRATE ALANA!â She thought. âIf this wasnât so serious, heâd be inside you tonight.â The voice in her head commented. She could feel her mouth watering at the sight of him. âI had to... This is too important...â She nodded. âYes?â He asked, innocently. âGET IN HIS BED! Make him feel the love you want him to feel. SHOW HIM how beautiful you think he is, that he his deeply loved, and that he is not alone!â The voice in her head cheered. âI canât!â She thought back as she regained her composure. âI-I had to get proof before talking to you...â She began. âProof?â He asked. Alana closed her eyes, sighed, opened her eyes and looked at him with conviction. âProof that your dad hits you.â She replied. âI already told you to not get involved! Itâs not your business, canât you understand that for once?!â He yelled. His anger pierced her heart like an arrow. âStay strong, Alana... You have to do this.â She thought. âPlease, donât yell. If your parents hear us...â She began. âGet out. Now.â He ordered. âNo. I wonât leave you! Nathaniel, this is too serious! You know for a fact that its impossible for me to pretend that nothing is wrong.â She pleaded. âIt-Itâs more complicated than it seems, you know...â He muttered. âTalk to me then. I have entrusted you with the truth of my horrors... That means I am more than willing to support you through yours.â She insisted as she took his hand but he was so bothered that he probably didnât even feel it. âPlease? It would help you to talk.â She urged. Nathaniel thought for a minute and sighed. âI donât want to get my dad in trouble... Understand? Heâs already going through a tough time. Thatâs why I donât want to talk to anyone about... About what he does to me.â He opened up. âNathaniel... Between the two of you, youâre the one going through a tougher time!â Alana blurted out. âAlana, you donât know what youâre talking about... My dad has always had an exceptional life since he advanced through his different positions in his multinational company. Heâs always made us happy, my mom, my sister and me... Before...â He continued. âBefore what?â She asked, allowing the slight patronization fall flat. âBefore someone stole his promotion and everything went up in flames. A while ago, my dad was supposed to be the vice-president of the company.â He elaborated. âThatâs not a small promotion...â She commented. âExactly. Except for a young man, just out of university and loaded with degrees, got noticed. Even though my father had been in the company longer, his superior chose the young man over my father.â He explained. âI get that had to have been hard... But that is still no excuse for everything! Your dad at least kept a good position in the company, right?â Alana asked. âNo, the problems just kept coming... The new vice-president felt threatened, and was sneaky enough to downgrade my dad until he had just a basic position. So, my dad is stuck. He wanted to reach excellence, and he will stay in the same office until the end of his career.â Nathaniel clarified. âAnd how do you factor into this equation? You arenât the reason for his professional misfortune.â Alana inquired. âI... I donât know, do you want over-the-counter psychology? I think my dad projects on me the image of the young man who stole his promotion. At the same time, he wants me to be like him, irreproachable. Maybe even better, so I never get overridden like he was.â Nathaniel facepalmed, annoyed. âIf I wanted over-the-counter psychology, Iâd go to my aunt Seraphina. I can tell you exactly WHY Carol does it to Sam and me. Its because her attempt to get in with the aristocracy through her husband, Valentine, and daughter, Regina, failed... So she decided to sink her fangs into my mother since my family is an old one and has always been âaristocracy adjacentâ. In the process of that, she decided that it would be best to use my sister and me as props to promote mom. So, if weâre not perfect, we get hurt. And, for the record, no one is irreproachable!â Alana exclaimed. âI guess he is just trying to protect me from what he faced...â Nathaniel sighed. âThat is no excuse for what he does to you! There is no justification for striking your child! You do realize that, right? How can you just accept that without flinching?â Alana asked, pouring emotion into each and every word. âIf I give him up, it will just hurt my family more than they are already hurt. My dad would surely lose his job. Weâre already indebted, we would lose our house! What would my mom and sister do in all that?â Nathanielâs voice was almost pleading as he facepalmed. âWhich brings me to my other questions... Why donât they say or do anything? Do they not know?!â Alana inquired. âAmber doesnât know. She just thinks she is the favorite that gets away with everything, while her brother gets âin troubleâ. My mom... I think she just pretends to not know anything.â He sighed. âAnd, instead of actually defending you from the blatant abuse that your father is belting out, she ignores it? Leaving you without a single person of power to protect you in any way?â The words left her mouth before she could properly process the gravity of what she had just said. âYou shouldnât make a big deal about it... Every kid has had one or two corrections from their parents...â He nervously shook his head. âCorrection doesnât involve leaving bruises in your childâs back! And I could easily bet that your dad has beat you more than once or twice!â She blurted out. âIt hasnât happened that often...â Nathaniel looked down. âThe fact that its happened even once is too far! Parents shouldnât be harming their children in the first place! Even then, there is a massive difference between getting grounded, having things taken away from you, getting extra chores, or even a light slap on the wrist versus getting knuckles imbedded in your skin or heavily slapped! With all that, the physical contact should only be enough to make sure the child knows theyâve gone too far, not hurt them!â She sputtered. âIâm certain thatâs not why he does it.â Nathaniel stated. âThe road to hell is paved with good intentions. It doesnât matter WHY he hit you! The fact that he did is abuse!â She blurted out. âWhatever it is, you donât have to worry about it, okay? Let me handle it.â Nathaniel tried to be reassuring. âBut Nathaniel... He... He hurt you tonight too... Didnât he?â She asked, a hint of sadness in her voice. âIt wasnât that bad...â He replied, forcing a little more strength into his voice. âNath...â She began. âIâm going to go to bed now, if you donât mind. Its late and I want to be rested for tomorrow.â He smiled. Nathaniel crawled into bed right in front of her, rolled onto his side and turned his back to her. âDonât you dare leave him like this!â The voice in her head almost yelled at her. Without another thought, Alana crawled into his bed, laid next to him, and held him in her arms. âWelp, heâs not moving... I canât tell what heâs thinking...â She thought. âBut heâs not pushing you away, so thatâs a good thing...â The voice in her head assured her. Time seemed to stop as they laid in bed together. Her mind wanted to continue racing, but her heartâs desire to comfort him overrode her brain. After several minutes, Nathaniel sighed, rolled over, and smiled at her. âYou should maybe go now. You... I donât want my dad to find us like this.â He cooed. âRight! W-We w-wouldnât w-want t-that... Are you going to be okay?â She asked, secretly praying to the gods that she wasnât blushing. âNow, yes. Your presence did me a lot of good. But, its best if you go back to sleep in Amberâs room, now. Otherwise, we might fall asleep together...â He insisted. âOf course... Iâll leave you then... Goodnight Nathaniel. Sweet dreams.â Alana nervously smiled as she got out of bed. âAlana?â He asked as she reached for the door handle. âYes?â She looked back at him, a hint of longing in her eyes. âThank you... And have pleasant dreams.â He blushed.
Alana creeped back into Amberâs room, thanked any deity who would listen for the fact that Amber is a heavy sleeper, got under her blanket and pulled out her phone. Several messages had been sent to her by various people. âAre you surviving?â from Sam. âAre you right?â from Kentin. âBe safe. Keep us posted.â from Armin. When she got to the message from her mother, she quietly sighed in relief. âHey sweetie! Nate and I had to run to England for a bit for a movie thing for him! Weâll be back in a couple of days! Luckily, Achille is in America for a meeting all week, so Verity will be able to take care of you and Sam until I get back! Love you!â As she sent her mom a message saying âAlright! Have fun! Love you too!â she couldnât help but think about the fact that she would be able to talk to Verity about what she had witnessed without it getting to her mother. Verity was always the one she could trust with secrets that she didnât want to worry her mom with, and this was no different. âVerity, PLEASE pick me up early tomorrow! I could really use some one on one time with my godmother!â She texted. âSo, are you not gonna focus on the fact that you got into his bed?â The voice in her head asked. âThat is something I can think about tomorrow... For now, I need to do everything in my power to get some much needed sleep.â She thought back as she put her phone away and closed her eyes.
â
When the first rays of dawn had begun to shine through Amberâs curtains, Alana opened her eyes. âGet up you idiot!â The voice in her head piped up. Amber was still sound asleep, snoring like an old train. She quickly grabbed her bag and went to the bathroom. Changing her clothes and brushing her teeth were done in a quiet rush. As she washed her face, her mind began to race and replay the events from the night before as if it was a clip show. âWhat do I do?!â She thought. âYou tell Sam, Ken, Armin and Verity.â The voice in her head replied. âWhy Verity?!â She frantically thought. âYou already know why. You knew why last night. Especially considering Verity would be the best adult to help you with this.â The voice in her head stated. âBut Nathaniel told me to not do anything...â She thought back. âIf you donât do SOMETHING, heâs only gonna continue to get hurt... Didnât you already tell Sam, Ken, Armin and yourself that you had to do something? Thatâs literally why youâre here.â The voice in her head pointed out. âWhat if he hates me... He was trying so hard to justify his fatherâs actions last night...â She worried. âYou knew coming into this that that would be a possibility. But, if it helps him in the long run, then its worth it.â The voice in her head assured. Suddenly, her phone vibrated with a message notification from Verity. âIâm sure you can tell me whatâs going on when I get there. Send me the address, Iâll be on my way soon. Love you!â She let out a massive sigh of relief as she put her phone in her pocket. âAlright... Letâs do this.â She nodded as she rinsed her face and left the bathroom.
âMiss Roster, youâre awake rather early.â Francis pleasantly greeted as he came out of his office. The very sight of him filled her with disgust and hatred. âEarly risers get more done. And a good morning to you Mister Jacott!â Alana did her best to sound as polite and happy to see him as possible. âSomeone please get me a trash can so I can puke!â She thought. âI trust you slept well.â He grinned. âYes, I did. Amber is quite the hostess!â She beamed. âAmber is nothing if not exceptional. Now, would you like some breakfast before your mother picks you up?â Francis asked. âIâd hate to turn down such a sweet offer, but it turns out that my plans have changed. Mom had to run to England for a bit, so Verity will be picking me up. Verity likes to get up and going early, so sheâll be here soon.â She explained. âWhat a shame. Well, then... I must apologize for Nathanielâs actions last night. My wife and I have been trying to raise him to be better than that... To be exceptional.â Francisâ voice was low and almost sincere. âHEâS APOLOGIZING FOR NATHANIELâS ACTIONS! NATHANIEL DID NOTHING WRONG! LET ME AT HIM! IâLL KICK HIS TEETH IN!â The voice in her head yelled. âNo apology needed, sir. Everyone forgets the little details sometimes. No one is perfect... And, with all due respect, I wouldnât write your son off like that. Heâs the smartest, sweetest, most respectable and proper guy in our class. I can already tell that he is going to go far in life. You should be proud of him.â She smiled as she rushed back into Amberâs room and gathered her things.
An hour later, there was a knock on the front door. âMrs. Mekina! What an absolute pleasure it is to finally meet you!â Francis beamed. âYou must be Mister Jacott! Thank you so much for hosting my darling goddaughter! Is my sweet Melody ready to go?â Verity smiled. âMiss Roster! Your godmother is here!â Francis called. Nathaniel looked at Alana and mouthed the words âIâm going to be okay.â as she looked at him, worried. âI hope youâre right.â She whispered as she ran downstairs and hugged Verity. âGood morning my little starlight! Itâs good to see you! Are you ready for a fun filled day?! I know Sam and her boyfriend want to include your friend Armin with our festivities, is that okay with you?â Verity cheered. âYeah! Iâm so happy we get to hang out V!â Alana mused. She turned to Francis, Nathaniel and Amber. âThank you so much for having me! Amber, Nathaniel, Iâll see you two at school tomorrow!â She smiled. âSee you!â Amber waved, clearly faking happiness. âShall we?â Verity motioned to the car. âYeah, letâs go.â Alana smiled.
By the time Verityâs car pulled up to the apartment, Armin, Sam and Ken had already gathered in the living room. âAlright girls, Iâve waited long enough. What is going on and why canât your mother know about this?â Verity commanded as she shut the door behind her and Alana. Sam handed Alana a bottle of iced coffee. âAlright... This is going to be a long one.â Alana sighed as she twisted the top off, took a big swig, and set the bottle down. Over the course of the following hour, Alana explained the entire situation to Verity, and filled everyone in on the previous nightâs events, including the bit where she got into Nathanielâs bed. âHoly shit.â Armin gasped. âOh my god... That poor boy...â Verity wept. âThat bastard!â Kentin blurted out. âMels, did you get any proof?â Sam asked. Alana looked down. âI was frozen in fear, I didnât think to have my phone recording.â She clarified. âThis is serious! Social Services needs to be called! That poor boy needs to be gotten out of that situation!â Verity exclaimed. âI wanna kick his dadâs teeth in!â Armin was almost shouting. âI know something needs to be done. Nathaniel begged me not to! Apparently his dad is in debt. What if they lose everything?!â Alana asked. âOf course theyâre in debt! People who aspire to become part of the aristocracy are almost ALWAYS in some form of financial trouble! Hell, look at Carol! She wants to be part of the system and yet her family is poorer than church mice! Or Achille! The Pechman family was disgraced years ago before my father made me marry him!â Verity blurted out. âSo, what are we going to do?â Armin asked. âMels, you have to call Social Services. Youâre the one who heard his dad beat him. Not only that, but you heard it twice, on two different days, and in two different locations.â Sam stated, very sternly. âBut...â Alana sadly yelped. âLook, I asked you if you were ready to do this, even if it makes Nathaniel hate you, and you said you were. Now, you have to do the hard part.â Sam barked. âSheâs right, even if he hates you for this, itâll be better for him in the long run.â Kentin nodded. âBut what if it ruins his family?â Armin asked. âI suppose I could help him... What company does his father work for?â Verity asked. âI donât know. Nathaniel never told me the name... Just that it was an international one based here.â Alana shook her head. âThere arenât many other international companies based in Astaria... VKT is the biggest one, and you know our line of succession.â Verity sighed. âIt shouldnât be hard to figure out which one his dad works at... Based in Astaria, and with a new, young, fresh out of university, Vice President.â Sam conversed. âAlso, with an employee named Francis Jacott.â Alana added. Verity pulled out her phone, logged into her VKT corporate account and did some digging. After five minutes, she had Francisâ name and face on her screen. âFound him. He works at Elite Solutions. Theyâre significantly smaller than VKT, but theyâre large enough to have a good reputation throughout the financial solutions industry.â Verity explained. âAny explanation to his demotion?â Alana asked. âFunnily enough, it looks like its because the new VP is the son of a longtime friend of the CEO... Not quite aristocracy, but old enough money to almost be on par with the Roster Clan. From what I gather, the Jacott and Carello lines are still somewhat ânew moneyâ... Not even proper âNouveau Richeâ. Even with clawing his way up the corporate ladder, Francis Jacott was never going to actually get the President, Vice President or CEO positions. The demotion itself was most likely a point to put him in his place.â Verity continued to explain as she looked at her phone. âSo, Nathanielâs father is so desperate to become part of the aristocracy that heâs willing to spend money he doesnât have, put his family into debt and probable jeopardy, climb up a corporate ladder that he will never actually reach the top of, marry a passive aggressive model who needs to eat a sandwich, let his daughter terrorize the school, and brutally beat his son into submission while demanding perfection. Am I missing anything?â Sam summarized and asked. âYou forgot that heâs willing to blackmail and coerce his kids into using connections to us so that they can try to get closer to the Mekina and Chevalier families.â Alana added. âMelody, Iâm guessing that you wonât let me have a talk with the CEO and President of Elite Solutions to possibly get him demoted even further?â Verity suggested, almost sadistically. âNo, V! Please donât make their financial situation even worse! Nathaniel is worried about that enough as it is!â Alana begged. âIâll respect that... BUT, you will be the one to call Social Services.â Verity ordered. Alana looked down, her face filled with dread. âAlright... But Iâm not going to do it today. Heâll know for a fact that it was me if I call today.â She sighed. âHeâs gonna know it was you no matter what...â Sam rolled her eyes. âSam, this is going to be hard enough on her.â Verity scolded. âIâll call tomorrow. Nothing would get done today if I called on a Sunday.â Alana nodded.
After several hours of planning, plotting, gaming, anime, and lunch, Armin and Kentin went home. Verity sat down at the kitchen table and called Sam and Alana over to her. When the girls had sat down, she looked at them very seriously. âYou didnât answer one of my questions earlier. Why canât your mother know about this?â She asked. âWhy would we get mom involved in helping someone get away from their abuser when she wonât even get Carol away from us?â Alana asked back. Verityâs eyes widened. âMels has a point. Sheâs been told by us, you, Nate, Viktor, Rini, Agatha and Seraphina what Carol has been doing to us and she still wonât fire her.â Sam pointed out. âDespite that, your mother still loves you.â Verity comforted. âV, you canât escape your abuser because youâre married to him and divorce would be extremely messy because youâre an heir to an extremely old, aristocratic, family. However, you help put distance between Carol and us when you can. It was obvious that, if youâre available, weâd come to you about this.â Alana explained. âYou know for a fact what its like to not have an out from that hell.â Sam added. Verity thought for a couple of minutes and sighed. âYou know sheâs gonna figure it out before this is all said and done... And I may not be available to offset the heat of how sheâll react.â She acknowledged. âThat may be, but you can help us now.â Alana sadly sighed. âOkay. But, I mean it... Your mother may be alright with you two keeping things from her, but Iâm not. If ANYTHING happens that you need help with, you had BETTER tell me!â Verity nodded.
â
Verityâs car stopped at a phone box on the way to Sweet Amoris High School. âYou can do this, Melody. I believe in you.â Verity cooed as she put her hands on Alanaâs shoulders. "Its the right thing to do. He has a chance to escape.â Alana muttered as she dialed the number to Social Services. When an agent picked up on the other end, Alana took a deep breath. âHello. Iâd like to put in an anonymous tip. I have reason to believe that a student at Sweet Amoris High School is being brutally abused by their parent...â She started. As the agent asked her questions, she presented them with every ounce of her knowledge on the subject. The bruises on Nathanielâs back, what she heard his father doing to him in the Janitorâs Closet at school, and the events of that Saturday night. âAre you sure youâd like to remain anonymous, Miss? These are very serious allegations.â The agent asked her. âYes. Iâd rather you focus on Nathanielâs welfare. If he can escape his father, then thatâs all that matters.â She replied. âOf course. Thank you for this tip.â The agent stated. âThank you.â Alana muttered as the phone call ended. âIâd ask you if you feel better... But its only just begun. Letâs get you to school.â Verity sympathetically smiled as she led Alana out of the phone box and back to the car.
Francis Jacottâs and Verity Mekinaâs cars pulled up to Sweet Amoris High School almost at the exact same time. The difference and style of wealth could easily be pointed out just by the style of cars. Francis drove a Lexus that was just barely on the tale end of what could be considered âhigh endâ. Verityâs car on that day was a brand new Rolls-Royce. When Verityâs car parked, her driver got out and opened the door for Alana, bowing to her as she stepped out. âMelody! Have a great day at school! I will be here to pick you after school is over! Let me know if you need anything! I love you my sweet goddaughter!â Verity waved as she stood by the car. âLove you too V!â Alana mused. Sam and Ken walked up to the car. âThanks for letting me walk with Ken this morning V!â Sam smiled as she hugged her. âOf course sweetie! You need time with your heart! Now, Ken, you be a gentleman to my Sam!â Verity sweetly commanded. âI will, Maâam!â Ken saluted. âMrs. Mekina! I just wanted to thank you for the make-up! Its working wonders!â Amber announced as she ran up to them. âIâm just glad that you and my Melody have put your differences behind you! Amber, right?â Verity cooed. âIâm glad too! Alana is a great friend!â Amber faked. Alana looked over at Nathaniel, who was talking to his father through the car window. âI hope youâre okay...â She thought. âWell, girls, Iâd really love to stay... But, you all have school, and Iâm spending the day with Agatha. I canât wait to see what kooky activity sheâs got thought up for us today!â Verity laughed. âLove you V!â Alana smiled and hugged her. âRemember, Melody. Your family is a long line of great warrior women. Their blood courses through your veins. No matter how painful the battles are, you must stand up tall and not let your enemies get you down.â Verity whispered into Alanaâs ear during the hug. âBe safe today girls.â She mused to Sam and Alana as she got back into the car. âNathaniel! Hey!â Alana waved when he walked up to her. âIs your mom enjoying herself?â He asked. âYeah, apparently she and Nate have been hanging out with a bunch of his actor friends.â She chuckled. âThatâs good. Did you have fun yesterday?â He sweetly asked. âYeah. Armin came over and we watched anime and video games.â She replied. âArmin has been spending a lot of time with you...â He huffed. âNath, am I detecting a hint of jealousy?â She smirked. âWhat?! No! I just think that itâs been a while since we hung out...â He nervously spat. âIt has been a while since we hung out...â She began as she bit her lip.
It didnât take long for a new set of rumors to begin circulating about Alana. Within the first few classes of the day, it had gotten to her that people thought she and Nathaniel were dating, that they thought she was cheating on Armin, that Castiel was still hoping to have a chance with her, and that she was being taken âunder Amberâs wingâ. âPeggy must be having a slow news cycle.â Alana thought. Melody was the one to bring the rumor about her relationship with Nathaniel to her attention. Kim and Iris forced Melody to confront her by the stairwell. âAlana, are you and Nathaniel dating?â Melody asked, nervously. Alana looked past the girls and noticed Peggy hiding by the basement door. âOkay, Iâm going to address every last rumor. No, Melody. Nathaniel and I arenât dating. But, Iâd like to point out to you, heâs already told you âNo.â at least once. Armin and I are not dating. Weâre really good friends. If any of you actually enjoyed playing videogames and watching anime, youâd probably be invited to join us when we hang out. About Castiel? I donât know how he feels about me past being my friend. When we hang out, we mostly talk about music. And as for Amber taking me âunder her wingâ... Why would I need to do that when sheâs the one trying to get closer to MY godmother? I just want her to stop tormenting me, so I play her game.â She explained. âYou know I like Nathaniel.â Melody angrily reminded Alana. A flicker of anger flared in Alanaâs eyes. Her mind turned to what she witnessed over the weekend. She gathered her thoughts and looked at Melody with conviction. âThat may me, but heâs not a piece of meat. Heâs a human being and can make his own choices. And if youâre coming at me like this now, when heâs single, I almost donât wanna imagine how much of a terror youâre going to be if or when he does get a girlfriend.â Alana retorted as she walked off.
âHave you heard anything?â Armin whispered when they sat down in their final class of the day. âNo. Iâm wondering if theyâre not going to do anything until after school is out for the day.â Alana anxiously replied. âThatâs possible. It would be better to surprise his dad that way.â Armin quietly agreed. âYou there! Alana, Armin, you know that whispering in my class is prohibited when Iâm trying to give a lecture!â Mr. Faraize called. âOh! Sorry, sir!â Alana nervously chuckled. âWe wonât do it again!â Armin laughed. Nathaniel shot them a jealous look from Alanaâs other side. âWell, what is so important that you had to interrupt my class to talk about it? Surely, it can be shared with the class.â Mr. Faraize inquired. Armin looked at Alana nervously as she took a deep breath. âWell, you were discussing the cultural impact of such medias like television and movies. We were simply, quietly, adding to that discussion. Since anime, video games, and comic books apply to that same argument.â She beamed. âSo, you were paying attention! Yes, they very much do apply to to this argument! Since they are all mediums that have shaped global culture and society. Look at the popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe... All because people like Stan Lee and Steve Ditko decided to be artists and story tellers.â Mr. Faraize smiled. âDonât forget! Many significant people like anime as well! There are multiple world leaders who enjoy One Piece. Dragon Ball has changed the lives of children everywhere and has the world record for âLongest Fight in Shounen Anime Historyâ. And Sailor Moon has encouraged girls to be their best selves by telling them that even crybabies who arenât good at math can still save the world, so long as you are pure of heart and have good friends fighting alongside you.â Alana explained. âDonât forget! PokĂŠmon has continued to teach our generation to be kind to animals and be friends with them!â Armin piped up. âNERDS!â Someone called out. âCalm down class. Miss Roster and Mister Keenan did add valid points to todayâs lecture.â Mr. Faraize ordered as the bell rang. While everyone got up and gathered their things, Mr. Faraize looked around a little frantic. âYou know what? No homework tonight!â He announced.
âSo, Alana? What are you doing tonight?â Nathaniel asked as he walked up to her, Armin, Sam and Kentin in front of the school. âVerity wants to hang out. Just us girls.â Alana replied. âSheâs trying to get Severina here at some point, but its a bitch to pull someone out of their fancy, English, private school... Especially with her husband overriding her every wish.â Sam explained. âOh... I thought we could hang out tonight...â Nathaniel looked down. âI wish I could, but, Verityâs husband comes back from his business trip at the end of this week, and Mom comes home tomorrow afternoon. She wants to have a special âgirlâs nightâ with us before mom gets home.â Alana disappointedly sighed. âI can hang out man!â Armin cheerfully piped up. âSorry, Armin... I kinda just wanted to hang out with Alana. But, thanks for the offer.â Nathaniel sadly grinned. âOh! Some other time then! Iâll make a gamer out of you yet!â Armin beamed as Nathaniel began to walk towards his fatherâs car. âWhat was that about?â Sam asked. âIâm not entirely sure... I think he doesnât wanna go home...â Alana observed. âWell, considering how much of a bastard his dad is, its no wonder he doesnât wanna go there.â Armin clenched his fists.
â
Several days passed without anything being done by Social Services. Lynne came back from her trip asking a lot of questions that Alana couldnât answer. Verity did everything in her power to distract her friend. Over the course of those days, Nathaniel got progressively more and more terrified whenever his father entered the room. There were several times Nathaniel asked Alana if her weird behavior had something to do with what she had witnessed at his house. She hated lying to him, but she knew it would be a lot worse if he knew what she had done before Social Services did anything. Amberâs behavior got worse when Verity wasnât looking... And Peggy had begun looking for her next scoop. Even Castiel asked Alana what was going on. âI canât tell you.â Sheâd said when he cornered her in the basement on Wednesday afternoon. âDo you not trust me?â He asked. âI do. But, I donât want it to get out... And, apparently, the walls have ears.â She replied, shooting the recording equipment by the basement door a sharp look. Castiel looked behind him and noticed the equipment move. âPeggy, at this rate, youâll be no better than the paparazzi that chased Diana to her doom!â Alana spat. Peggy muttered something that Alana couldnât quite hear and ran off. When the girl was out of earshot, Castiel looked at Alana very seriously. âCan you tell me now?â He asked. âNot yet. Iâll tell you once something happens. I promise.â Alana sighed. He looked at her, angrily. âYou know what? Donât even bother!â He almost yelled as he stormed off. Alana looked at him, tears beginning to form in her eyes. âI do trust you Castiel... But Iâm not ready to tell you...â She muttered.
â
Friday morning, the second Sam and Alana entered the school grounds, Peggy ran up to them, rather giddy. âYOU!â She yelled, her microphone in her hand and stretched out towards them. âWhat do you want now?â Sam asked, instantly annoyed. âIâm sure you know everything, Alana!â Peggy almost shouted. âWhat are you on about?â Alana asked. âNathaniel and his parents were summoned to a meeting with the principal this morning. They are still in her office. I couldnât understand why, exactly, but things donât look good... For Nathaniel, in any case.â Peggy explained. âAnd like the parasite you are, youâre taking this like a kid at Christmas.â Sam sneered as she rolled her eyes. âSo, Alana, have you decided to tell me what everyone will find out soon enough?â Peggy asked as she excitedly shook her microphone in Alanaâs face. Alana took the microphone out of Peggyâs hand, looked her dead in the eyes, and smirked. âPeggy, you are not a journalist. You are a paparazzi. People like you have gotten innocent people killed. You donât look for news. You look for scoops. It doesnât matter how scandalous it is. In fact, the more scandalous it is, the better. People like you are the reason why our parents have taught us to swear and flip people off the second we see cameras and microphones. Since Sam and I first got into this school, we have tried to help you actually become a legit journalist and not a paparazzi... But, you refuse to actually follow our advice. Whatever is going on with Nathaniel and his family is not ânewsâ or even a âscoopâ. Its a family matter that should NOT be published in the shit rag you that youâve turned the school newspaper into. Go fuck yourself!â Her voice rang throughout the hallway and made everyone silent. Peggy stood there, shocked as Alana handed back the microphone. âSo, this is what happens when Melody Roster is pushed too far?â, âIâm glad someone finally said it! The newspaper lost integrity last year when Peggy took over!â, âAlana went off!â Several students could be heard muttering throughout the hallway. Sam noticed Mr. Faraize in the hallway and looked into his eyes. âI hope you realize, if youâd like to punish my sister for what she just did, you can always talk to our mom! She, Nate, and Aunt V were the ones who set the rules in place when it comes to how we deal with the paparazzi!â She announced.
Alana ran down the hallway towards the Principalâs Office. âPrepare yourself for the worst.â The voice in her head ordered. âHey!â Nathaniel called as soon as she saw her. He was clearly seething. âH-Hey..â She nervously breathed. âI canât believe you are here trying to listen in after what you did.â He chastised. âNathaniel... Please listen to me... What I did... I did it to help you...â She quavered. âI told you not to talk about what you found out. But of course, it was out of your control. And this time, you went too far.â He scolded. Nathanielâs anger almost prevented her from lookin Alana in her eyes. âI.. I just...â She fearfully began. âBecause of you, things are even worse. Social Services came to my house and now, even the teachers are getting involved!â He did his best to not shout at her, however, his best efforts had begun to fail. âNathaniel... I couldnât sit by and do nothing...â She yelped. âYou are such an idiot! I told you that I didnât need help! Because of you, my dad may lose everything, or worse, go to prison! Amber is shocked and upset. She doesnât understand what is going on. And my mom refuses to talk to my dad, as if he was an embarrassment!â He exploded. Fear, sadness and anger filled Alana. She put every molecule of effort into not letting it bubble over. âBecause of me? Iâm not the one who struck you! I was just trying to help you! I just wanted to make things better for you!â She almost began to cry. âCongrats, really... Once again you did a really great job! Without proof, Social Services wonât do anything anyway. And I can assure you they wonât find anything.â He sarcastically applauded. âNathaniel! Come on, weâre leaving. Obviously, the Principal has nothing else to say.â Francis barked. His eyes turned to Alana, cursing her very existence with every second he looked at her. Nathaniel shot her an angry look as he and Amber left with their parents.
âI knew it... He hates me... I shouldnât have done it... I donât care if its the right thing... He hates me...â Alana thought. Tears had already begun to stream down her face as she held her mouth closed. âGet out of here. You have to go find someplace private. NOW.â The voice in her head ordered. Obviously, the main school building was out of the question. âGo to the Locker Room. No one will be in Gym right now...â The voice in her head commanded. Without another thought, Alana was running to the deepest part of the Locker Room. On her way there, she passed Castiel. âAlana?â He asked. She didnât answer, and kept running. When the door firmly closed behind her, she found a corner near the showers, crumpled onto the floor, and breathed heavily. With each breath, her emotions bubbled and boiled. It didnât take long for her breathing to turn into one long, fearful, sad, scream as tears streamed down her face. âSam told me he was going to hate me if I did this... I should have listened to her... I shouldnât have done this... I should have obeyed his requests....â She wailed. âIs this about what you werenât telling me?â A voice asked from the doorway. Alana looked up and saw Castiel standing before her. âGo away Cass...â She cried. âNot until I get some answers. What happened with Nathaniel? Why was he yelling at you like that? Why did you not tell your friends about this? Why did you cuss Peggy out?â He asked as he got closer to her. He sat on the bench in front of her and looked at her seriously. âFine... Its time you know...â She began as she proceeded to explain everything that had happened up until that point, except the part where she got into Nathanielâs bed. âThat bastard... That idiot thinks that if nothing gets done, heâs going to be okay... And when you actually try to help him, he repays you by treating you like garbage...â Castiel growled when Alana had finished her explanation. âIt doesnât matter anyway... Nathaniel is gonna help his father hide everything from Social Services... All I managed to do was make him hate me and make his home life worse...â She cried. âAlana...â He began. âJust stop, Cass... Nothing youâll say will make me feel better...â Alana shook her head, stood up, dried her tears and left the Locker Room.
Rosalaya stood in the Gym, obviously waiting for her. âI was in the hall when Nathaniel yelled at you. I followed you to talk to you, but Castiel was quicker than me. From what I could hear, it wasnât that difficult for me to put the pieces of the story together.â Rosalaya pointed out. Alana looked down. âRosa... Between what happened with Deborah, and everything thatâs going on in my family... I didnât wanna tell too many people.â She explained. âSo, who all did you tell?â Rosa asked. âSam, Ken, Armin and Verity. They were sworn to secrecy.â Alana replied. âBut you couldnât tell me?â Rosa asked, annoyed. âOr me?â Castiel asked from behind them. âNo! I couldnât! How was I supposed to tell you two about this? âHey guys! I know Nathanielâs being abused by his dad. I recognize the signs because of what Carol has put my sister and me through and what Verityâs husband puts her and her daughter, Severina, through!â Doesnât sound good, right?â Alana blurted out. Castiel and Rosa looked at her, shocked. âAnd now, Nathaniel hates me... I was hoping that, by some miracle, he wouldnât by the end of this... But, as usual, Iâm wrong...â Her voice quivered as she spoke. âAlana, you made the right call! You couldnât have let the situation go on any longer!â Rosa assured her. âThat idiot isnât a martyr... Even he knows you made the right choice.â Castiel spat. Alana looked at them, thought for a couple of minutes, and sighed. âThanks guys... Iâm glad youâre both on my side with this...â She muttered. âNext time, donât fucking keep shit like this from me.â Castiel shot as he smirked and walked away. âI hope that in the future you will remember you can count on me!â Rosa smiled as she hugged her. âThank you Rosa... Iâll be sure to remember that!â Alana quietly mused.
Throughout the day, the school was filled with muttering about Nathaniel and his situation. No one could focus on their school work. "Even the teachers are off their game.â Armin whispered to her between classes. âIts obvious that the teachers have talked with Shermansky and they all know whatâs going on.â Alana replied. The rest of the day felt as if it was going by in a blur. âSo, going on autopilot for the rest of the day?â The voice in her head piped up. âDo I have a choice?â She thought back. âYeah, you do. You can always stay engaged, take this thing head on and stand up tall. Or, you can go on autopilot, ignore everyone, and disappear.â The voice in her head told her. âI donât wanna be here... Canât I just go on autopilot until school is over?â She thought. âYou could, but it wouldnât do you any good.â The voice in her head replied. âBut it would make this whole thing a lot easier for me to deal with.â She thought back. âLook, you knew what you were getting into when you started âOperation Purity Chaliceâ. You knew heâd probably hate you for a while... But, look at this way... There is a good chance that heâll come around.â The voice in her head explained. âNo... Not this time... I fucked up...â She thought back.
While on her way to find Sam, and Ken, Alana was cornered by Li, and Charlotte. âWhat did you do?â Li asked, angrily. âWhat, did your boss not tell you?â Alana shot back, annoyed. âCut the crap, Alana. You did something, and now Amber isnât at school.â Charlotte spat. âIt is not my place to tell you. If you wanna know, either go to Amber yourself... Or read the next edition of the school paper... Iâm sure Peggy has gotten wind of it and is currently writing her next tabloid slam piece, anyway...â Alana scoffed as she walked away from the two girls. Iris, Kim and Melody stood in the hallway by a set of lockers. âI hope Nathaniel is alright...â Iris muttered. âIâm sure he will be.â Kim grinned. âI donât know whatâs going on... All I know is that he yelled at Alana right before he left.â Melody shot Alana a quick smirk before looking back at the other girls with sadness. âIf you honestly gave a crap about Nathaniel, you wouldnât be focused on the fact that he yelled at me. Youâd know what was actually wrong.â Alana condemned. âBut, instead, sheâs more focused on treating a man in actual pain like an object.â Sam chimed in. âThank god youâre here! Can we go home?â Alana begged as she turned to her sister. âYeah, letâs get the fuck out of here.â Sam sympathetically nodded, put her hand on Alanaâs shoulder, and began leading them out of the school.
Lynne Roster did not look happy when the girls returned home. âIâve had enough. Why did I see police officers and social workers at the Jacott Residence when I passed through their neighborhood? Why does it look like Melody has been crying herself sick? Why is my best friend not telling me things about my daughtersâ activities? Why is that classmate of yours with the recording equipment hanging around the Jacott Residence and our apartment building? WHAT ARE YOU TWO KEEPING FROM ME?!â She did her best to not yell at Sam and Alana, but lost control of her voice when the apartment door closed. âTell her Mels. Its time.â Sam urged. âBut why though? Its not like she can do any good!â Alana blurted out. âCanât do any good? I canât do anything if I donât know whatâs going on!â Lynne called back. âWhy should we tell you about Nathanielâs abuse when you wonât even protect us from Carol?!â Alana shouted as she stormed to her room and slammed the door. The instant her door was closed, she closed the curtains, turned on her computer, and began blasting My Chemical Romance until she had fallen asleep.
Later that night, Lynne woke her up. âCome on my love. You need to take your contacts out.â She cooed. âYouâre not mad at me?â Alana groggily asked. âIâm upset with you... But, after talking with both Sam, and Verity, I understand your reasoning...â Lynne replied as she sat at the foot of Alanaâs bed. âMom... Verity, Agatha, Seraphina, Nate, Sam and I have all told you what Carol does to Sam and me behind your back and you still wonât fire her. Why? Sheâs abusing your daughters and you can easily get rid of her for it. Because of that, I donât see a reason to ask for your help getting Nathaniel away from his abusive father when you wonât get us away from Carol.â Alana sighed. âIâve made sure to put distance between you two and her.â Lynne stated. âDistance doesnât mean shit when she still looks for ways to torment and threaten us.â Alana shot. âIts complicated Melody. Carol has herself embedded in my contracts... I canât get rid of her unless something happens that would completely destroy me.â Lynne explained. âAnd abusing your daughters wonât completely destroy you? Mom, we both know thatâs horseshit.â Alana raised an eyebrow. âSweetie, first... Please donât swear so much around me... And secondly, I donât want you to be the one to fight my battles. This isnât something you should be dealing with...â Lynne insisted. âYouâre right. It isnât. But here we are. Your best friend is being abused by her husband. Your other best friend is dead. Your daughters are being abused by your manager... And the boy I like is being abused by his father. If I can change even one fraction of that myself, I am going to. I canât sit by and watch the people I love get hurt. I canât do anything about Verity. I want to help you and get Carol out of our lives, but its enough work keeping her as far away from me as I can manage. Nathaniel... By using Amber, and making that phone call, I know I did something good... I just hate the fact that he hates me for it...â Alana admitted. âOh, my baby! You did the right thing with that boy... But with everything else, some fights are bigger than you... Look, if I work harder to but even more distance between Carol and you and Sam, will you promise to trust me more with things like this?â Lynne begged. Alana thought for several minutes. âIâll try.â She nodded. âGood. Now, I think this weekend would be a good one to go to Weathering. Put some space between you girls and this issue. Give you time to think, and Nathaniel some room to breathe.â Lynne suggested. âIs there gonna be anyone at the house in Weathering?â Alana asked. âAunt Skye and your cousin Freya might have said theyâre coming down for the weekend...â Lynne smirked. âWhat about Alexander and Colin?â Alana inquired. âTheyâre visiting his parents in Wales. Itâs just us girls this weekend.â Lynne replied.
Right before Alana fell asleep, she decided to send Nathaniel a text message.
âI know you hate me right now... And I know you donât wanna see me anytime soon... But, Iâm going to Weathering until Monday. I hope you stay safe. Please just promise me you will.â
â
It was Freya and Sam that kept Alana from locking herself in her room for the whole weekend. When Freya picked the lock to her bedroom door, Alana wanted to be mad, but Sam, Lynne, Skye and Agatha all said that while Freyaâs methods werenât honorable, she did it for the right reason. Obviously, Alanaâs and Nathanielâs situation was not going to be kept a secret from Skye and Freya. âOh my god... That poor boy! Melody, you probably saved his life in the long run!â Skye gasped when they sat down to dinner on Saturday night. âSkye, heâs hiding all of the evidence to protect his father! I didnât do anything but make things worse and make him hate me!â Alana argued. âYou still did the right thing, Mels. Although, I would have done something directly to his dad...â Freya acknowledged in between bites of her steak. âThatâs because you arenât nuanced or subtle... That would have only gotten me in trouble.â Alana sighed. âMelody... Iâm sure that, once he has some time to let the dust settle, he will eventually be thankful for what youâve done. Until then, youâve just gotta be strong.â Skye reassured her. âThatâs easier said than done...â Alana looked down at her plate. She had barely eaten any of her food. The image of Nathaniel yelling at her in the hallway played in her head on repeat. âYou are such an idiot!â rang in her mind on loop. She shook her head. âIâm gonna go... Iâm not really that hungry anyway...â She quietly announced. âGo where?â Lynne asked. âIâm not sure... Donât worry, Iâll stay on the property.â Alana replied.
After dinner on Sunday night, Alana sat in the fetal position on the roof to the house while listening to music. Throughout the weekend, she had looked at her phone, hoping, praying, that Nathaniel would respond to the text she had sent on Friday night only to be met with nothing. Rosalaya, Castiel, Armin and Alexy had all messaged her, asking if she was okay, asking where she was and why she had left. She simply responded to them with the excuse that some of her Scottish family were around and they had gone to see them. They knew she wasnât okay. And she knew how they were going to respond if she had lied to them, so she simply ignored the question. âHow can I be okay... I tried to help him and it only made things so much worse... Thatâs all I ever do is make things worse... I want to disappear....â She muttered to herself. âYou are such an idiot!â, âBecause of you...â and âCongrats, really... Once again you did a really great job!â continued to play an endless loop in her head like a broken record as âHear Me Nowâ by Framing Hanley reached itâs chorus. âEvery time I put myself out there and try to be there for someone, I just mess things up and make things go even more sideways... Maybe I should just disappear... Maybe if I do that, people wonât get hurt by my stupidity anymore...â She muttered. âIs that how you really feel?â A voice called. Alana looked up and noticed Sam and Freya looking at her from another flat spot on the roof. âMels... You did the right...â Freya began. âSTOP TELLING ME I DID THE RIGHT THING!â Alana loudly interrupted. Freya looked at her, shocked. âI DONâT CARE IF I DID THE RIGHT THING! Every time I do âthe right thingâ, I end up getting hurt! Iâm so sick and tired of getting hurt for the people I care about! I get hurt for mom... Iâve gotten hurt for Verity and Rini... I got hurt for Viktor... And now Iâve gone and gotten myself cut apart for Nathaniel!â Alana cried. Sam folded her arms and looked at her sister, annoyed. âMelody... Get the fuck over yourself! I know that itâs not entirely your fault that youâre so self-sacrificing. But god damn it! After a while you have to stand up for what you believe is right even if it means getting hurt in the process! Youâve known this for years! Its literally part of our raising! I TOLD YOU that he might hate you for this! I asked you, in front of Kentin and Armin, if you were ready to accept whatever Nathaniel might do to you because of this and you said that you were! Now, get off your ass, put on your âbig girl pantiesâ and face this head on! Youâre a Roster, arenât you?!â She boomed. Alana looked at her sister, brokenheartedly. âSam...â She gasped. âYouâll never be able to stand on your own as the head of the family if you arenât able to stand on your own two feet now. Even more so, you have the ability to make everyone in that school kneel before you if you would just show some fucking confidence! The little bursts of it have been fun, but you need to be more consistent! Show everyone, especially Nathaniel Jacott, what Melody Alana Roster, the next head of the Roster Clan after Mom, is made of! I know my âbig sisterâ is more metal than the weak creature sitting before me!â Sam thundered.
â
Tuesday afternoon, Alana found herself being dragged to Nathanielâs house by Sam, Kentin, Armin, Rosalaya, Alexy and Castiel. âPlease no...â She begged. âWhat did I say over the weekend about you being more metal than this?!â Sam called as she lead the charge. âCass... You canât be supporting this...â Alana pleaded as she looked at Castiel. âIâm just coming along to make sure you all donât fuck things up any more than they already are...â Castiel rolled his eyes. âAlana, we all wanna make sure heâs okay... Weâre going.â Rosalaya ordered. âEspecially considering Amber wasnât at school yesterday and today either.â Kentin commented. âI didnât expect either of them to be there today anyway... Since their dad got taken away by police over the weekend.â Alexy noted. âWait, really?â Alana asked. âThis is what happens when you run away for a few days!â Rosalaya shook her finger. âIn our defense, we really did have family in from Scotland.â Sam shrugged.
When they got to the house, Sam couldnât help but scoff. âThey really are trying to be part of the aristocracy! This thing isnât even old enough to have their estate be considered part of the ânouveau richeâ!â She laughed. âYeah, I never understood how your family knows so much about that kind of thing...â Alexy pondered. âRemember, guys, The Roster Clan is centuries old, has estates in at least three countries, isnât formally considered noble or aristocratic, but is old enough and well off enough to be respected by the Astarian Crown. If it wasnât for our disdain for formal titles, weâd probably have had some knights and dames in our family by now... The Astarian Crown has been trying to give titles to our section of the family for at least two hundred years.â Alana explained. âAll while the English Crown has been trying to wipe us out for being Pagan, for supporting Irish, Scottish and Welsh freedom, and for openly supporting the destruction of the monarchy for centuries.â Sam added. âSo, basically, weâre aristocracy-adjacent.â Alana clarified. âWelp, letâs get this over with!â Sam announced as she rang the doorbell. Within seconds, the gate opened and Adelaide appeared before them. âYou? What are you doing here?â She asked, cringing at the sight of Alana. âWe were worried about Nathaniel. He hasnât been to school since Friday morning.â Rosalaya announced. âCan he come out and play?â Sam asked, almost mockingly. Adelaide looked down at the group of teenagers standing before her. âMy husband and son are out, they wonât be back for a while.â She coldly replied. âWell then, can we wait for them?â Armin did his best to sound as cheerful as he could muster. Adelaide turned her eyes to Alana. âNo. You arenât welcome here anymore, Miss. Leave, before I call the p... Before I get angry!â She yelled. âGo on! Call the police, bitch! Even if Mels and I are arrested, our records will be expunged before the press even get to us!â Sam dared. âSam, stop!â Rosalaya hissed as she turned back to Adelaide. âYou donât have to yell Maâam. Just tell us if Nathaniel is alright.â She pressed. âHe would be better if you would stop bothering him! Now leave!â Adelaide ordered as she stepped back and pressed the button to close the gate. Rage filled Alanaâs body, replacing the fear that had held onto her for so long. âSam, give me a boost! Now!â She ordered. âAlright.â Sam nodded. When Alanaâs head peaked over the wall, she looked Adelaide in her eyes. âHeâd be better if he had a mother that actually gave a damn about him! Instead, you and your bastard husband only care about status! You really think youâd be accepted by the aristocracy by acting this way? They may be abusive to a certain extent, but even their standards are higher than this! Youâre nothing more than a pathetic, power hungry, COWARD!â She yelled, letting every drop of venom in her mouth pour into her words. Everyone but Sam looked at Alana in horror. âThere she is! The next head of the family! I hope this Metal Melody starts coming out more and eventually stays!â Sam cheered. âWoah.â Castiel and Armin gasped, almost in unison as they both tried to hide the fact that they had begun to blush. âThatâs new... Alana, I didnât know you could be like that...â Rosalaya blurted out. âIâm not surprised she wouldnât let us see him.â Alana growled. âHe and his dad might be with the police.â Alexy suggested. âLook, we really canât do anything else now... Letâs all go home and wait for him to go back to school.â Kentin suggested. âYouâre right. As it is, Iâve gotta do something to commemorate my sisterâs spine coming in!â Sam mused.
â
Wednesday morning, a familiar face returned to school. âAlana, guess what? Nathaniel is back.â Rosa sweetly stated as Alana stood by Samâs locker. âOh, really?â Alana asked, almost nonchalantly. âYes! I wanted to talk to him but Peggy was already annoying him.â Rosa nodded. âJust like the little parasite she is... Iâm gonna have to bust her equipment up.â Sam spat. âThatâs fine. Iâm sure if he wants to talk, heâll come to me before the end of the day.â Alana huffed. âAlana, Iâm happy that youâre not letting yourself be completely pushed around, but you should go to him at some point. It might be good for the both of you.â Rosa suggested. âOr, itâll end in disaster if he continues to be an asshole to me for being the one to go up to him.â Alana rolled her eyes. âYou both can be so stubborn... Just make you two talk today, please!â Rosa urged as she walked to class. âGo on, find him... Get this over with.â Sam insisted. âReally? You told me to be more âmetalâ. Metal doesnât move. It can be fixed when itâs dented, and cleaned when it rusts. And Adamantium and Vibranium are both indestructible.â Alana pointed out. âWe both know its better if you rip the band-aid off.â Sam flatly replied. âFine! Iâll go find him...â Alana huffed as she walked off.
Throughout her search, she found several other students instead of Nathaniel. âNathaniel completely ignored me earlier....â Melody lamented when Alana found her by the Science Lab. âGet used to that.â Alana thought. âWhere is he?â She asked. âI donât know... He left when I started talking to him.â Melody sighed. âGreat... Iâll keep looking.â Alana replied as she ran off. When she got to the garden, she found Kim. âIf heâs going to be so unpleasant, he could have stayed home!â Kim blurted out upon seeing her. âLet me guess... Nathaniel.â Alana observed. âYeah... I was supposed to give him an absence note and he just sent me away! I donât know what his problem is, but it better not last long.â Kim huffed. âIf you actually knew his problem, youâd change your tune. But you donât, so Iâm telling you to change it. I get heâs being an ass, but being a dick to him wonât make his attitude any better!â Alana shot as she walked out of the garden. âDid you see heâs back?â Alexy asked as she entered the classroom. âI havenât seen him yet... But Iâve heard he is.â She shrugged. âYou might wanna stay away from him... You know heâs not in a good mood.â He suggested. âYeah, it sounds like heâs become a monster. Good thing there are old legends about my family being monster hunters!â Alana sarcastically smirked. âRemember girl... There are stories saying that your family has slain dragons, vampires, and other monsters... Donât forget, your great grand-father fought real monsters in the last great war! And you have stood up to Carol on multiple occasions! Whatever Nathaniel has become, he canât be nearly as bad as what you and your family have already faced!â The voice in her head cheered.
Right as she was about to give up, Alana opened the door to another classroom and found the beast that everyone had told her to stay away from... Nathaniel. âI was just thinking that it was strange that you hadnât come to see me yet.â He grinned. âWerenât you the one who basically told me to stop looking for trouble?â Alana cocked her head. âAlana... You betrayed me...â He spat, instantly becoming annoyed. âOh, please. I told you exactly what made me do it. The reasons why I instantly knew what was being done to you. And you decided to stab me in the chest for it. You know that what I did was the best option to help you....â She began, allowing a certain amount of venom to seep into her words. âSTOP! You donât have any idea what youâve started! The police came to my house Alana, the POLICE. They took my dad and asked me questions. I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack!â He yelled. âTHAT IS IT! I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF HIM PATRONIZING ME!â Alana thought. âI DONâT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IâVE STARTED?! I DONâT?! Do you have ANY IDEA what would happen if what Carol has done to my sister and me got out? YOUR family isnât aristocracy, proper ânouveau richeâ or even aristocracy-adjacent! MY family would be FUCKED! My step-dadâs reputation would be RUINED! Or, hey, letâs talk about Verity? The reason WHY I told her isnât just because sheâs one of the major people putting distance between Carol and us. SHE literally canât escape her abuser BECAUSE of the aristocracy! The ONLY reason why Severina doesnât get physically hurt, is because she was sent off to a fancy boarding school in England! But donât worry! That doesnât stop Achille Mekina from inflicting psychological damage from a distance! And if any of what Achille has done were to get out before Verity is able to prepare herself and her family for the aftermath, the ENTIRE Mekina family would be up shit creek without a god damn paddle! But, I donât have any idea what Iâve started, right? You should be THANKFUL that your family only has to worry about the Police, and the potential financial repercussions of your fatherâs actions... Which, mind you, if he didnât spend so much money trying to be something even he should know that heâll never be, your family might have never been in debt in the first place!â She exploded. âAlana... How dare you....â Nathaniel began. âNo, how DARE you! You already knew that âSweet Little Melody Rosterâ was only a front and that Iâve been suppressing my true self for years. I never lied to you about who I am and what my family is... And yet you have patronized me so much during this whole thing, it is a MIRACLE that I havenât kicked your ass yet!â Alana snapped. He looked at her, utterly horrified by the angry woman standing before him. âYou know I didnât tell the Police anything... I donât want my dad to go to prison...â He growled. âOf course you didnât.â Alana rolled her eyes. âIâm hoping that this whole situation will make him think...â He sighed. âOh yeah... Abusers who get caught once ALWAYS think about stopping....â Alana sarcastically huffed as she rolled her eyes. âYou donât see past the tip of your nose, do you?â He asked, even more annoyed. âAt least I can smell fresh air! Your head is up your ass!â She spat. âMy family is paying a high price for this whole ordeal. My mom and sister are alone. They are completely disoriented! My dad always took care of them, of the house, of everything. They donât understand! And if this leaks out, my dad will lose his job!â He argued. âIt is not anyoneâs fault but their own that your mom and sister cannot exist without your father. Perhaps some time away from him, learning basic survival techniques, would serve them well... Oh, and, by the way.... Verity looked in to your dadâs position. That new Vice President of his company? Yeah... Heâs basically aristocracy-adjacent. Your dad was NEVER going to get that placement!â She retaliated. âYou looked into his position?!â Nathaniel looked at her, rage in his eyes. âVerity did. What, you really think she wasnât going to? After I explained how hard your parents were trying to get into the ranks of the Mekina Family, it became in her best interest to look into it.â Alana replied. âAlana... My dad canât lose his job...â He growled. âYou do still have a crush on him, right? Or, have you turned your back on him?â The voice in her head asked. âAs of right now... Iâm not sure... I want to still love the man I see before me... But I canât lay on my back and take him being a dick to me.â She thought back. Alana looked into his eyes, taking in every molecule of pain that covered him. âYouâve got to stop this. Metal Melody is great... But remember youâre doing this because you want to help him.â The voice in her head urged. âMy anger is the only thing keeping me standing right now... I canât let it go...â She thought back. âYou have to. If you care about him at all, you have to calm down.â The voice in her head pleaded. âIâm not sure I do... Do I care about him? Was it just a crush? Has that gone away now? Whatâs going on?â She thought. âThink back... You know heâs just lashing out because of his pain...â The voice in her head told her. Alana thought back to every moment she had shared with Nathaniel up until that point. The answer was clear... Yes, she did still have romantic feelings for him. At that moment, she did everything in her power to suppress the anger that continued to flood her veins. âWill you at least talk to him? For fuckâs sake... You now know that what he did to you was, literally, for nothing... You need to set a boundary and make sure he doesnât cross it again.â She sighed. âThatâs what I was going to do. My dad gets back home tonight. But even if things get better between him and I, know that I will never forgive you for what you did. You went too far this time.â He warned. âFine. But, understand this... I will never forgive you for the way youâve treated me during this ordeal.â She retorted. He looked at her, fury still ablaze in his eyes, stomped towards the door and slammed it behind him.
Alana stormed towards her locker and noticed Rosalaya and Sam standing by it. âThanks for the advice! We just had a massive argument in a classroom! Heâs never gonna forgive me for this! And Iâm never gonna forgive him for the way heâs treated me! He didnât tell the police anything because he wants to protect his family... Oh, and he was a massive, patronizing, jackass to me about it!â She called as the two girls looked at her. âWhat an idiot! He prefers to suffer rather than harming his father!â Rosa scoffed. âAnd youâve called ME self sacrificing!â Alana snapped at her sister. She turned back to Rosa. âHe thinks heâs protecting his mom and sister because they wonât know how to function without his dad. Iâd almost call it âbraveâ or âhonorableâ if he wasnât being such a complete d-bag to the rest of the world about it.â Her voice began to waver as if she was about to cry. âIâm gonna go... Iâve got something to do...â Sam announced as she angrily walked off. âBrave is stupid! What he is subjected to is unacceptable! I donât understand why he doesnât try to rebel at least a little.â Rosa huffed. âHe did tell me that heâs going to try to talk to his dad tonight...â Alana sighed. âWell, thatâs something. Letâs hope that it will help....â Rosa nodded.
â
The next day, Alana went to school, hopeful and fearful of Nathanielâs situation. âYou still angry with him?â Sam asked as they entered the main hallway. âA bit... But Iâve calmed down a great deal since yesterday.â Alana replied. Suddenly, Iris ran up to them. âItâs horrible!â She cried. âWhat happened?â Alana asked, instantly turning serious. âI-I... I just saw Nathaniel... I think something happened to him...â Iris sputtered. âWhere is he?â Alana asked. âHe went towards the second hallway.â Iris shuddered. âGive me your bag.â Sam ordered. âThanks Sam.â Alana smiled as she passed her backpack to her sister and bolted to the second hallway. âNo... Please donât...â She thought. The second she saw him, she stopped dead in her tracks, tears coming to her eyes. âNath...â She gasped. Nathaniel stood in the hallway, overcome by his nerves, and with bruises around his left eye. âNathaniel... How... That black eye...â Alana almost covered her mouth to keep herself from crying, but instead continued to be frozen in fear. âI... I tried to talk to him...â He shivered. The next thing they knew, noises could be heard coming from the basement and Nathaniel immediately stopped talking. âIf you could make less noise, some of us are trying to smoke in peace...â Castiel called as he got to the bottom of the stairwell. Nathaniel stared at him in silence. âHmm, strange, I donât remember beating you up!â Castiel chuckled. âCass! Now is not the time!â Alana called. âLet it go, Alana.â Nathaniel ordered as he walked off, exasperated. Before she realized what her body was doing, Alanaâs hand was already swinging towards Castielâs face. When they collided, a âSLAP!â resounded through the halls and he looked at her, petrified. âWhat the fuck is wrong with you, Castiel?! You already know what heâs going through! Did you not think for a second about where he ACTUALLY got that shiner! You KNOW who did that to him! There was no need for you to make a joke about it!â She scolded. âAlana... It was just a joke...â Castiel huffed when he regained his composure. âNot a good one.â She spat as she turned and ran in the direction Nathaniel walked off in.
She ran into the same classroom they argued in the previous day and saw him standing by himself. âNath... Please talk to me.â Her voice wavered. âThere isnât anything to say, Alana. I talked to my dad, to try to make him understand... That he went too far with me. But it didnât work. Things escalated very quickly and... This... This is the result.â He sadly sighed. âCan I say something?â Someone asked from the doorway. They turned towards the voice and saw Castiel. âHere to make another bad joke?â Alana angrily asked. âGosh, why are you following us?!â Nathaniel inquired, very annoyed. âNo, Alana... Iâm not here to make another âbad jokeâ.â Castiel replied. He turned to Nathaniel, shut the door behind him and leaned against the wall. âI donât want to be like Peggy, but, seeing what you have on your face, and the conversation you just had with Alana, I couldnât help but come to certain conclusions.â He explained. âI donât see why this concerns you.â Nathaniel spat. âCastiel just lied to Nathaniel... Why?â The voice in Alanaâs head asked. âTo protect me? If Nath finds out that I told Cass, heâll make my life more of a living hell...â Alana thought back. âThat actually seems like a good theory... Especially with the way Castiel acts around you...â The voice in her head replied. âWe have to talk, man.â Castiel stated in a very serious tone. âAnd if I donât want to talk about it with you?â Nathaniel asked, getting more annoyed. âYou donât have a choice. Someone needs to get you out of this mess.â Castiel ordered. âFine.â Nathaniel huffed as he followed Castiel out of the room. âI need a loooooonnnnnnggggg vacation after all of this! Or at least a spa day!â Alana sighed as she sat on a desk. âYou might wanna go tell Rosa and Sam about this... You know what theyâll do if you leave them out.â The voice in her head suggested. âSHIT! Youâre right!â She thought back as she bolted out of the classroom to find her sister and Rosa.
In her efforts to find her sister, she came across Melody. âSomeone hit Nathaniel in the face... I think it has something to do with Castiel. Theyâve been off together for a while now.â Melody worried. Alana rolled her eyes. âIf Castiel was the reason Nathaniel had that black eye, the two of them wouldnât be talking things out now. You know that for a fact. As it is, deep down, we all know Cass is a softie. Heâs a good man with a good heart.â She replied, instantly annoyed. âI can tell that you donât know them very well.â Melody sneered. âI know them both much better than you clearly do!â Alana scoffed as she walked off. When she reached the main hallway, she found Iris. âYou shouldnât hang around here, the principal is furious!â Iris fretted. âWhat happened this time?â Alana asked. âI donât know, but I would prefer to not get involved.â Iris worried. Alana walked towards the Principalâs Office and heard yelling coming through the door. â...Inadmissible! In my whole career, Iâve never, NEVER, seen a student act out like this!â Principal Shermansky yelled. âBut, Maâam, its not what you think, I was just...â Peggyâs voice could be heard pleading. âJust what? Hiding behind the couch in the Teacherâs Lounge?!â Principal Shermansky angrily inquired. âI...â Peggy tearfully began. âI wonât tolerate this Miss Peggy! You will be in detention for three hours!â Principal Shermansky boomed. âThree hours? Thatâs it? The little parasite has been poking around, acting like a fucking tabloid for weeks, aiming to use Nathanielâs pain and potential scandal, as well as any potential scandal from my sister and me, as fodder for the next issues of her damn newspaper! And she only gets three hours?!â Alana blurted out. âMiss Roster, get in here!â Principal Shermansky called. âDamn it!â Alana thought. âYou know, you really shouldnât be listening in to things like this.â Principal Shermansky cocked her head. âIâm not sorry this time! She has been hiding, poking, and prodding everyone for the latest âscoopâ for the school newspaper. Iâm sure even you know that it doesnât sell well! No matter how many times she gets told that her style of âjournalismâ has gotten people killed, she doesnât change! She doesnât go after actual news stories for the school. If she did, there would be more about what the clubs are up to, and less trashy articles filled with gossip! But instead, she aims to plaster Nathanielâs issues all over the school and use his pain to sell more papers!â Alana explained. âI thought you were my friend, Alana!â Peggy blurted out. âWe stopped being friends the second you started writing gossip columns about Sam and me.â Alana snapped. Principal Shermansky turned to Peggy. âIs what she said true?â She asked. Peggy didnât answer, but instead became very nervous. âDonât make me repeat myself.â Principal Shermansky warned. âYes. It is true.â Peggy hung her head in shame as she spoke. âWell then, I have no other choice.... You now have two weeks detention, and until further notice, you are out of the Newspaper Club!â Principal Shermansky announced. âWHAT?! NO! You canât take that away from me! The Newspaper Club is my whole life! Please... I promise, Iâll do better... Please donât do this to me!â Peggy begged. âMadam Principal... I donât believe kicking her out of the club would do any real good...â Alana began. âAnd what would you suggest?â Principal Shermansky asked. âForce her to get back in touch with her roots. Demote her to the base position and make her answer to someone else for once. If sheâs motivated to climb back to the top, and given the ability to do so on her on true merit, she might actually have one last chance to become an honest reporter.â Alana suggested. Principal Shermanksy thought about it for a couple of minutes. âThat actually sounds like a really good idea... And Miss Sharon has been a good Vice President to the club... So be it! Instead of being out of the Newspaper Club entirely, we will get Miss Sharon in here to discuss which part of the Newspaper you will be designated to report on. If you do well and refrain from falling back into your current habits, you may be promoted to other positions within the club.â She announced as she nodded. âCan I go?â Alana asked. âYes, Miss Roster, you may leave.â Principal Shermansky.
âWhy were you in the Principalâs Office again?â Rosa asked as Alana closed the door behind her. âLetâs walk and talk!â Alana mused as they walked towards the Courtyard. âSo, in a sense... You got Peggyâs punishment extended, and somewhat saved her position in the Newspaper Club?â Rosa asked when they sat down on a bench in the Courtyard. âYeah, kinda.â Alana shrugged. âCan I still hogtie her with duct tape and smash her equipment?â Sam asked. âPlease donât...â Alana sighed as she facepalmed. âSo? Did you talk to Nathaniel?â Rosa asked. âYeah... But, Castiel cut us off... He said he has a solution to Nathâs problems...â Alana replied. âCastiel is helping Nathaniel... Soon Armin will start gardening!â Rosa chuckled. âMaybe heâll help Nath get independent from his parents.â Sam shrugged. âYou think so? That wouldnât be a bad idea... Whatever, after what Francis has done, I hope Cass can work a miracle.â Alana grinned. âLetâs keep our fingerâs crossed!â Rosa cheered. âI will NEVER garden!â Armin announced as he, Kentin and Alexy walked up to them. âHey, if Castiel is helping Nathaniel, then anything is possible!â Sam laughed. âAll I know is that, after all of this... I could really use a spa day.â Alana yawned. âIâd be up for that!â Alexy excitedly clapped. âIâm in!â Rosa agreed. âI think mom would approve too!â Sam smiled. âYeah... Count me out. But, if you wanna marathon a few games or anime, Iâm in!â Armin suggested. âWe can do that another day. We still have Fairy Tail to catch up on!â Alana laughed. âWe will get up to date on it!â Armin raised his right hand with his thumb and pointer finger in the shape of a backwards âLâ. âYes, we will!â Alana smiled. âHey, Sam... Letâs go to the CafĂŠ for a snack on the way back to your place.â Kentin suggested. âI could eat.â Sam grinned. Alana began walking towards the school. âWhere are you running off to?â Rosa asked. âIâm gonna go hang with Cass... Heâs still kinda upset about the whole âdeal with Amberâ thing and I need to make it up to him...âAlana replied.
The halls of the school had become particularly quiet. It seemed as if the whole ordeal had everyone worried for the next major move, and not many students had any idea what was actually going on. âShit! Did I leave part of my homework in a classroom?â Alana thought. She went towards the door to her English Class and heard two people talking. âBut... I never saw anything... I donât understand...â Amber fretted. âI think that deep down, he knew what he was doing was wrong. He must not have wanted you and mom to see it.â Nathaniel explained. âI wish things would get back they were...â Amber muttered. âYou say that because everything was fine for you. But for me, it was far from being the case. At least now, I have a chance to help change things. Itâs the best solution. See you later, Amber.â Nathaniel replied, his voice low. âY-Yeah, okay.â Amber looked down as she headed towards the door. Alana quickly hid behind a locker and tried to not be seen. When both Jacott twins had left the room, she ran into the classroom, grabbed her homework folder, left the room and went towards her locker. âWell, youâre in the right place at the right time. I was looking for you.â She smiled as she noticed Castiel standing by the stairs. She opened her locker, grabbed her bag, and swung it over her back. âI figured youâd be here sooner or later.â Castiel smirked. âSo, did you find a good solution for Nathaniel?â Alana inquired. âYeah. But you donât look too good.â He nodded. âYou know Iâm not feeling good... Nathaniel is gonna be mad at me for a long time for this... And that is IF he doesnât permanently hate me for it.â She looked down. âThatâs what I donât get... Why would he be mad at you for this? Itâs not your fault that his dad hit him.â He questioned. âNo... But I did violate his trust when I called Social Services... I used his sister to get to him... Even though he had warned me that his dad was having Amber use me to get to Verity... And I lied to you in the process.â She explained. âAnd thatâs why you broke up with me?â He asked, a little smirk appearing on his face. âWe have to be dating for us to break up... And youâve always said that no man would want someone as âflat chestedâ as me... But, in a sense, yes... Thatâs why those rumors started.â She rolled her eyes. âSo, did you lie to me when I came to you about it?â He asked. âNo! I really meant what I said when you and Demon cornered me! There was just more to my reasoning and I didnât tell you the whole truth...â Alana replied. âFine.â Castiel sighed. âWhat did you tell Nathaniel, anyway?â She asked. âIts not up to me to tell you. Leave it to him for now, when that idiot wants to tell you, he will.â He stated. âCass... Please?â She begged. Castiel looked at her and did his best to not blush. âLook, all I can say is that if it works, your adored âpresidentâ will be fine... Once and for all.â He reassured. âOh, please tell me that youâre not having him do something illegal.â She begged. âIt was the only thing to do...â He smirked. âWHAT?!â Alana blurted out. âRelax! Iâm just kidding!â Castiel laughed. âCass! You ass!â Alana laughed as she playfully shoved him in his shoulder. âAnyway... You canât be here just to bother me about that idiot...â He observed. âYeah... I came to start making it up to you... Do you wanna go get some pizza?â She invited. âAre you gonna talk about that idiot the whole time?â He asked. âNah... But I do wanna talk about my cousin Freya. She and her friends have started a punk rock/emo girl band called The Electric Dragons.â She smiled. âReally? But if you bring up that idiot, Iâm leaving.â He smirked. âUnderstood. Now, letâs go. Iâll buy.â Alana laughed as they began walking towards the parking lot.
â
Nathaniel didnât show up to school for a few days. Everyone figured that he was taking that time to go through with what Castiel had told him to do. Happy to finally have a sense of peace in her home, Lynne insisted on taking the girls and some friends to the spa. Alexy and Rosa instantly jumped on the offer. Amber and her friends left Alana and Sam alone. Each time Alana had the idea to talk to Amber, Amber would run away before Alana could even say âHi.â. Peggy had been demoted to strictly the sports section of the newspaper. She complained, but, thanked Alana for at least not letting her get kicked out of the club. Alanaâs habits of hanging out with Castiel and Armin got back to their regular schedule, but everyone knew that some of the times sheâd be alone in her room were simply placeholders for if Nathaniel wanted to hang out with her again. It became a bit of unsaid knowledge that Armin and Castiel had become the only ones in the core group to not know about Alanaâs deeper feelings towards Nathaniel. Samâs teasing towards Alana and her âharemâ resumed and caused several spats in the Roster Apartment, but it was nothing Lynne couldnât handle. In fact, she was ecstatic that her daughters were having simple âsibling spatsâ rather than actual arguments for a change.
Days continued to go by with no sign of Nathanielâs return to school. Alana tried to text him, only to receive no response. It wasnât until Amber had told her friends that her brother would be returning soon that news spread like wildfire. In an effort to keep herself occupied when she wasnât spending time with anyone, she tucked her nose into her books. She decided to read Discworld by Sir Terry Pratchett in itâs entirety so that she could enjoy some adventure and magical hijinks. Alana was sitting beneath a tree in the school Courtyard reading Wyrd Sisters when Rosalaya appeared before her. âAlana?â She asked. "Yes?â Alana inquired as she closed her book and looked up at Rosa. Rosalaya looked at her very seriously. âSomeone wants to talk to you.â
Honestly, I dreaded writing this chapter. Donât get me wrong, Iâm happy I wrote it. It is an essential chapter to Nathanielâs story, and by extension, Alanaâs. But, as a survivor of physical, mental, emotional, and financial abuse from the hands of my own mother and my motherâs best friend, it was hard to write. The episode itself was painful to play... By the time Episode 23 came out, I had already fallen in love with Nathaniel... But, this episode made me feel a true bond with him. We were both victims of our parentsâ malice and selfish desires. Just as Nathaniel is able to move on from his trauma and live for himself, I have managed to do the same.
If your parent or loved one is abusing you, please seek help. Get yourself out of the situation. Go no contact if you must. If you can, seek therapy. Donât wait for your parent to pass away like I did.Â
I had contemplated having the banner focus on the bedroom scene between Nath and Alana... But, I decided it would be best to focus on the 5 major players in this chapter.
I picked Sharon to be the first name of the Vice President to the Newspaper Club because Peggy is the President... Itâs a Marvel reference... âPeggy Carterâ and âSharon Carterâ...

Alice did a fantastic job editing the Sailor Harmony illustration into Alanaâs Sailor Scout form! This is not the first blonde haired, blue eyed, glasses wearing, Sailor Scout Iâve created. When I was around 10 years old, I made myself into a Sailor Scout named Sailor Melody. I slightly brought this into a version of Alanaâs story when I wrote the one shot âWhen I Wakeâ... However, in that story, Alana saw her Sailor Scout form...
Obviously, Sailor Moon means the world to me. My IRL mom introduced me to the anime and loved watching it with me until the day she died. My aunt and grandmother love it. We encourage my little cousin to enjoy it. The pendants I have with my momâs ashes are all in the shapes of the Legendary Silver Crystal. I have a MASSIVE collection. Iâve written my love of Sailor Moon into multiple chapters of Alanaâs story, even giving Sailor Moon itâs own dedicated chapter. I have Sailor Plutoâs staff tattooed to my back. Iâll be wearing Neo Queen Serenityâs tiara on my actual Wedding Day. Iâm even planning to have the Moon Stick in itâs staff form tattooed onto my back when my grandmother passes away.
Sailor Aria is Alanaâs Sailor Scout form. I started out with just the plain sailor scout... But then I wanted to do a Super Sailor Scout form... Then I wanted to do an Eternal Sailor Scout form...
I hate the puffy sleeves on the Eternal Scoutsâ uniforms, so I didnât do them for Alana.
With Super Sailor Aria, I made her skirt 3 colors. I also gave her the slip and a belt. I made the sleeves of her teddy blue and added bracelets to her gloves. I also replaced all of the hearts with crystal hearts. I also gave her a belt and a ponytail. The back of the ponytail is from Eldarya. I also gave her arm tattoos.
With Eternal Sailor Aria, I kept the blue sleeves. I also darkened the bottom of her skirt, added ribbons to the top of it and swapped the heart for a star. I also gave her a blue slip. The gloves got extra bracelets. I went with the Sailor Harmony boots, but kept the socks from the other 2 forms. Her belt, tiara and collar got stars as well. I was torn between black and blue wings, but Iâm glad I went with the black. Her staff got the heart from the Sailor Harmony staff and the crystal star. Her butt bow got extra ribbons. I also gave her blue lipstick and swapped her usual glasses for high tech goggles. I kept the hair that I made for Super Sailor Aria and swapped the 2 crystal hearts for 3 crystal stars. The choker was made from Agathaâs choker. I made it darker and added the star. Her earrings are the drop earrings from a Christmas event... I just put the stars over the pendants.
The background is from Eldarya.
Both Super Sailor Aria and Eternal Sailor Aria will be part of the second Sailor Moon outfit pack that Iâm building!

I decided to make Sam and Severina into Sailor Scouts to match Alana!
Iâve always liked the idea of writing a side romance between Armin and Severina into my story... While Iâve toyed with the ideas of pairing Armin with Alana in one timeline and Severina with Viktor in the main timeline, Iâm leaning more towards Nathanielâs and Alanaâs best friends ending up together...
@candysweetposts Iâm tagging you since I used at least 2 of your packs to make these... But mostly your Sailor Harmony conversion!
