We have two new competitors this time, a Pseudo and a Starter! This will be one worth watching!
After many years waiting, Mega Dragonite was the first new Mega Evolution we'd seen since the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and it didn't disappoint! A beloved Pokémon all the way from Generation 1, Mega Dragonite takes the best parts of Dragonite and enhances them. Where many Megas get fiercer and become merciless, Mega Dragonite's kindness is only enhanced, with it wishing to use its immense power to end battles quickly to not prolong suffering. It's also known to leave battles it's in the middle of if it hears the cry of someone in danger! But don't let its kindness be mistaken for weakness, oh no. With its lowest stat now its HP at 91, and all its other stats at least 100, Mega Dragonite is a force of nature, able to shoot beams from the pearl on its tail with enough force to blast through mountains! Interestingly, it loses 10 points in its Attack, meaning regular Dragonite's physical hits will do more damage, but with 145 Special Attack, I don't think anyone can really complain. It's the classic Dragon type with a new coat of paint, what's not to love?
On the other hand, we have another very beloved Pokémon with a fresh form! The Fire Starter from Generation 5, it's Mega Emboar! With increased strength and toughness, Mega Emboar now wields a flaming spear that it fights with relentlessly. Mega evolution energy heightens Mega Emboar's emotions, making it into a ruthless fighter that usually acts alone- but also gives it a strong sense of duty, as it will risk its own life to save a friend in danger. As its emotions burn hotter, so too does its flames, with its spear reaching temperatures of 10,000 degrees Celsius! It doesn't even need the spear to do huge amounts of damage though, as its muscles have powered up enough that a single punch will destroy half of a reinforced concrete building. That's the power of 148 Attack for you! Interestingly though, its Attack isn't the stat that gets the biggest boost when it mega evolves. That honour goes to Mega Emboar's Special Defense of all things, with an additional 45 points putting it at 110. Tough, hard hitting, and loyal- what more could you want from your first ever Pokémon given a new power boost?
