So who do we think is getting their first plushie first then, the rest of the Ruinous Quartet and the Neo Swords or Mega Chesnaught and Mega Delphox? Just kidding, we all know it’ll be the Megas haha every Pokémon is someone’s favourite but if you really prefer those permanent new Pokémon to the temporary form differences introduced a day later (that are paywalled btw and not in a fun DLC way don’t ask me why I find DLC and non-payed event-exclusive content more acceptable than locking something behind a locked subscription service the Kalos starter Megas are my Wake and Leaves just without the loathing of their designs meanwhile Wake and Leaves are my idk Garchomp) you’re insane (sarcasm I’m just getting pissy half my favourites still don’t have plushies but another two of my favourite Megas have got them I wrote this post very late at night and then saved it to my drafts so I could pretend I wrote it at a sensible time. It does kinda come off as me having a mental breakdown and that wasn’t the vibe I was going for)

For reference Mega Delphox and Mega Chesnaught are still among my favourite Megas I just think TPC should have completed the permanent new Pokémon from the game before before working on temporary form differences from the next game as cuddly as plushies of Z-A Megas would be (Boulder would still be cuddlier). I also prefer my favourite permanent new Pokémon to my favourite Megas so maybe I’m biased

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE review mega chestnaught my awesome buddy chestnaught :)

Might as well just state it upfront: Mega Chestnaught is not only a straight-up banger, but it's also a massive improvement over regular Chestnaught in my opinion.

In terms of concept, Mega Chesnaught evolves the warrior/knight theme regular Chesnaught has into a king theme, which makes logical sense. Chesnaught's head now sports a plated "crown", and it has a longer and fluffier beard. It's subtle, but it works very nicely and feels like a natural extension of what regular Chesnaught was going for. As a bonus, it can remove the "axes" on its shell and use them as weapons, which is a neat functional addition to the design.

And visually, like I said, it improves on regular Chesnaught's design a lot. The biggest issue with regular Chesnaught is that its upper body is very busy and heavy while its lower body is very empty looking, with long bare legs and arms. The mega not only seems to have slightly shorter limbs in general, but the addition of a maroon king's robe helps rebalance the design a lot. The torso also has a lot of additional fur, which makes it look bigger and more proportional.

Another thing that's been improved are the colors. Regular Chesnaught has light green, brown, white, light yellow, and a tiny little bit of red. With Mega Chesnaught, the green has been darkened in order to improve the contrast. The red is now a prominent secondary color instead of an afterthought, the yellow is less light and thus stands out better against the white, and the browns have been removed from the palette completely in order to simplify it and improve its coherency.

And finally, the default pose is much better. This is the least important thing as obviously it isn't always posed the same, but Chesnaught's official art looks awkward and stiff, whereas Mega Chesnaught being hunched over makes it much more dynamic and battle-ready.

My only nitpicks are that A) the beard uses rounder shapes than the rest of the design and it would've been nice if that was more cohesive, and B) I kind of wish the shell axes looked just a little more like weapons, as they don't really look like they should even be removable at first. Those are minor things, however, and overall I think this is an excellent mega.
