âSo⌠Who is that guy?â Allison asked as she watched the man vigorously wipe his hands with what she assumed was some kind of disinfecting towelette.
Lee noticed where her stare was directed and chuckled. âThat, Allison, is Adrian Monk.â
(âDid you have a dream?â meets âHereâs what happened.â Allison Dubois and Adrian Monk team up to investigate the hit-and-run murder of a young violinist. Can they crack the case, or will the ghosts of the past cloud their judgement?)

âBesidesââPeter sat down on the arm of the couch, opposite to MJââif youâre really getting messages from the Great Beyond, donât you think at least one person will get back to you?â
That was⌠not an unreasonable conclusion, all things considered. MJ told him so, and Peter laughed.
âThank you. I try my best.â
(MJ is psychic. Sheâd rather not be. A PeterMJ rewrite of season 1, episode 1 of NBC/CBSâs Medium.)

Well, what in God's name am I responsible for?! Huh? I am too sensitive to practice law. But I can't do any good with all my effin' sensitivities, 'cause I'm not sensitive enough to know that it's gonna freakin' rain!

made an edit for my crossover fic i probably wonât type up until december â¨
Allison sighed, rubbing her forehead in frustration. He was right. The physical evidenceâlimited as it wasâpointed to Marcus, even though she knew for as good as fact that Vanessa was the guilty party. âWell, maybe sheâs framing him.â
âMaybe,â Lee agreed, sounding as far from convinced as humanly possible.
âNo, Mrs. Dubois might be onto something,â Monk said, matching pace with Lee and Allison. Sharona was only a step or two behind him. âVanessa Sawyer deliberately pointed us in the direction of Marcus Jackson when she lied about the status of his and Louise Boudreauxâs relationship.â
âThatâs right,â Sharona said, snapping her fingers. âSheâs the only one who said anything about their relationship being on the rocks! Nobody else could confirm that.â
âExactly,â Monk said. âThey were on the verge of marriage, not breaking up!â
âAccording to your readings of Jacksonâs body language,â Lee countered. âAnd heâs not exactly the most credible figure when itâs his significant other whoâs dead. Besides, Sawyer was Boudreauxâs roommate. Itâs entirely possible she heard stuff straight from Louise that wasnât being passed over to Marcus.â
âVanessaâs credibility is just as shot,â Allison insisted as they all came to a stop in front of Leeâs police cruiser. âHer story doesnât add up and you know it.â
âDid you check out her car?â Monk asked. âThe blue Nissan she claimed to own?â
âI did,â Lee confirmed. âShe doesnât own any Nissan, blue or otherwise. At least not one thatâs registered with the DMV.â
âThen why did she have a key for a Nissan?â Monk demanded. He frowned. âAnd there was something off about her key, too. I wish Iâd gotten a closer look at it.â
âI mean, she couldâve been holding onto the key for someone,â Sharona pointed out. âI agree thereâs something fishy about her, but itâs possible the key wasnât hers.â
âThen why would she lie and say it was?â Monk protested, raising his shoulders and holding out his hands. âSheâs the guy. Thereâs a connection between that key and the murder of Louise Boudreaux.â He faltered, shoulders falling. âI just donât know what it is. Yet.â

âI have one more question, actually,â Monk said. He smoothed down the front of his jacket. âYouâre planning to audition for Ms. Boudreauxâs position in the Phoenix Symphony, arenât you?â
Vanessa stared at him. âI beg your pardon?â
âYouâre a very talented violinist.â Monk gestured to the awards on the shelf to his left. âFirst chair material. Itâs perfectly understandable for you to be interested in claiming the position, despite the⌠unfortunate circumstances by which it has become available.â
âSir, I havenât performed in years,â Vanessa said, both amused and offended. She lifted her left hand. Though she was still clutching the key ring, the scar that ran down her thumb was clearly visible. âI had a major surgery several years ago. I couldnât even pick up my bow.â
Monk touched the rim of a lamp resting on a small table beside the couch. âYou havenât performed since,â he agreed, âbut you have been practicing again.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Vanessa demanded. She glanced at Lee, who was observing the conversation with silent interest. âDetective, what does your consultant think heâs doing?â
âYou have new calluses on your right fingertips,â Monk explained. Allison looked down at the womanâs right handâsure enough, Monk was right.
âOne of them blistered,â he continued, âand is now healing. Youâve been playing your violin again.â Monk paused. âUnless Iâm wrong. Which, you know. Iâm not.â
