I am finding new ways to distract myself from the trauma of the Good Omens finale.
Today, I am looking at images of the temptation of Christ to see which ones have done Crowley (ok satan) dirty....but this one captures Crowley's hair pretty well I think. Though it's given him more muscles than even the horniest fanartist.
Meanwhile this one FULLY does Crowley dirty. The nose! The weird boobs! The unexplained face above his crotch! Looking at the objects he's apparently using to tempt Jesus, one of them appears to be a giant gobstopper. And one of them (closest to Crowley/Satan's leg) is definitely a dildo, I am taking no further scholarly arguments about this.
The face-instead-of-a-dick thing does seem to be a theme...and this one's got a buttface too! Also knee wings. Medieval scribes, u ok hon?
I quite enjoy this very half-arsed temptation. Like...fancy it? Nah mate I'm good. Note also the orientalist costuming. Quite apart from making Jesus white, religious art loves to make it racist.
Anyway, I'm feeling distracted from the pain a bit now. And off to research the crotchface/buttface/knee wing trope in medieval images of the devil.
