So, my crosses are legal!
I thought a simple line with a row of crosses would be a lovely decoration for a peasant tunic and theeeennnn I attended a talk on embroidery of the twelfth century that outlines that crosses were typically "caged", or outlined at all four sides.
The other thing I wish I'd been less independent on is choosing my thread! I think I've turned my peasant into a bit of a fancy pants and might have to come up with an elaborate backstory, but also threads would have typically been less fine and more uneven. That's why I bought some of the other threads, recently.
