Apparently, he was an "intellectual fugitive" and was not interested in research. He just wanted to avoid getting drafted into the Korean War in the USA.

So, he was working as an assistant obstetrician, and they were researching choriocarcinoma, a type of malignant cancer that develops from placental tissue in pregnant women.

Normally, this cancer resulted in the death of both the mother and the child.

But he experimented with the drug methotrexate (a drug used for leukemia) on one patient, and the cancer disappeared.

With the results they got, they thought the scans had been exchanged with those of a healthy patient.

Our scientist realized that the β-hCG hormone, which is released by these cancer cells, didn't really go away even after the complete disappearance of the tumor.

It still stayed in the blood ...so he started thinking .. Obsessively

And , he gave the patients more anti-cancer drugs.

When the NCI (National Cancer Institute) found out that he was giving cytotoxic drugs to pregnant patients who had already gone into remission, they fired him.

The doctor knew that if hCG was still present in the blood, it meant the cancer was still there and would relapse.

And guess what? It did but not in the patients who underwent our doctor's treatment.

Now we know how long we need to continue giving chemotherapy to our patients to get rid of this invasive disease.

-im sort of losing my sanity here lol, anyways we keep pushing!
