Quick question- since I remember it being mentioned on a blog that I think was this one (I could be wrong and if I am pls lmk) about the problem with Peni Parker in the spiderverse movie and the orientalist viewpoint that led to her design; I was wondering if you had any links to the original comics with Peni in them? Or at least know of like, a way I could read them, cau’se I’m doing a fanfiction Spiderverse rewrite to include a spidersona of mine, but I don’t want to continue perpetuating the orientalism in the original so I wanted to reference the actual comics for her instead. I just… don’t know where to look because I know next to nothing about where to find/read comics online in general. If not, that’s totally fine and I will once again try my best to find them on my own, I’m just broke and don’t have the money to spend on physical comics, otherwise I would’ve gotten them to read and totally wouldn’t even be asking this. i highly recommend checking out the Edge of Spider-Geddon (2018) comic series that heavily features peni & a better characterization/backstory than the spiderverse movies give her <3 there are plenty of sites out there with scans of comics/other books for free, i personally don't remember any off the top of my head but if any of you know feel free to shout them out!
so I live in a garbage area where librarians actively look down on you for using digital lending, and I just want to remind you, LIBBY IS GOOD! USING LIBBY IS AS GOOD AS CHECKING OUT PHYSICAL BOOKS, especially if you cannot check out physical books for whatever reason! use WHATEVER resources your library provides to you, do not listen to your librarians if they tell you 'but you really should check out physically' they don't know what they're talking about! your digital checkouts are just as important! they also provide your library funding! it is extremely elitist and ableist to assume people can always physically check out books!
