“You lied,” Buck snapped, setting his basket down on the table—carefully, despite his bubbling frustration. His volcano cakes shouldn’t have to suffer alongside him. “This was e-e-entrapment.”

“Everything I said was true,” Eddie protested immediately. He held up his hands, taking a not-so-subtle step back. Like Buck couldn’t outrun him. “It’s for the kids! A charity auction with a basket lunch and treats and—”

“And me!” Buck flailed an arm out at him, fully versed in the fine print. Now. “You failed to mention that we get auctioned off along with our baskets. I’m not a treat, Eddie.”

“But you are a snack,” Chim piped up from somewhere on Buck’s left.

Buck pointed a hard finger at him without breaking his staring contest with his former best friend. “Not helpful.”

“Please, please don’t back out,” Eddie said. “They need us to fill out the line up.”

Scoffing, Buck finally tore his gaze away so he wouldn’t get trapped by that pleading look—lethal when wielded by Diaz eyes. It was how this whole thing started…

The laundresses of three neighboring noble estates have long come the same bend in the river to clean the fabrics of their masters and chat about the day’s trivialities. All seemed right and normal for years, until one day the laundry emerged from the waters covered in strange, flowing symbols too neat to be stains, too precise to be meaningless. -- Deathshead419

Three Baronets held neighbouring lands, and it was a lucky thing that they were friends. The shared hunting grounds were a forest where a majority of the three realms' politics happened whilst riding out and locating their shared quarry. Most of the rest happened over ales at the feast for the victor.

It was therefore no shock that the servants were also fast allies. The neighbouring holiday castles shared the same stream where the laundresses clustered to chatter and scrub. Most of the news that didn't reach the town criers exchanged itself at that junction.

"M'lord's young lady's come to bloom," cheered the laundress for Ronchenac, Nellie. "She'll be meeting her fiancee very soon."

Summary:

Step one was easy. All they had to do was lie to Steve about Dustin needing a ride. Step two was a little more difficult, but only because they forgot the trailer next door was on the same breaker. Wayne bribed the owners with enough cash to go get dinner somewhere, glad that they didn’t even ask for an explanation when money was being shoved into their hands. Step three was the problem.
