Source: Kirin-g Field’s Exhaustion Diary The final spread from W-G’s blog is focused on the planned release of Timanic! Timanic was a new Takara SF Land series that was Microman-inspired (and even perhaps with a few cues taken from Micronauts, such as calling the heroes “Space Travelers”) but with large, 8-inch tall figures with an internal light that could be powered by an external battery source. This entry was so rushed from early development, that the figures’ trademark chrome parts are all shown as white plastic, and the third figure is still just concept art. The vehicle shown as concept art at the top right was never produced. Takara, which knew from experience that staying in one format too long could lead to waning interest, was not married to the 10cm scale of Microman and would constantly experiment with other figure size formats to see what would catch on over the years (with Diaclone perhaps being the most notable such experiment to take hold). Timanic, which was developed alongside Hoodman, didn’t last more than a year. It’s not completely clear why Hoodman was scaled down to 8cm, other than to allow for space for their hood, but previously Takara had used a slightly smaller, Microman-inspired figure format for the licensed Gowapper 5 series, and also some even smaller figures for their Captain Harlock license (while large compared to Diaclone, there are some possible hints that the Harlock toys might have helped lead to that line’s development). At the bottom of the page are samples from the (now extremely rare) cartoonish Mecha Kit series, a spin-off from Microman’s Acroyear Study Uniquer series (no longer under the Microman label) which was in release at the time of this product catalog’s publication.
