BALITANG LOKAL: Emergency Water Interruption at Metro Dumaguete Water hits 8 barangays flushes transmission line

DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- Water utility company 'Metro Dumaguete Water' (MDW) recently conducted an emergency water service interruption (EWSI) that can last for 2 hours in some barangays last Wednesday afternoon (June 18th, 2025). The affected areas are Bagacay, Batinguel, Candau-ay, Camanjac, Daro, Motong, Pulantubig and Taclobo; which includes here on our Associated Labor Unions (ALU) internet public broadcasting center of OneNETtv Channel in Cornelia Road highway.

The said EWSI was due to the final flushing of transmission line 5A from 'Andres M. Lumhod Street' to 'Palinpinon' road crossing Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)'s district office 079 in Barangay Taclobo on Wednesday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm (Dumaguete local time). Customers in Dumaguete City may experience low pressure to no water supply and is recommended to store available water.

MDW promptly apologizes the inconvenience in the concerned affected barangays. The emergency water service disruption forms part of the current infrastructure maintenance programme that is seeking to enhance the water quality and delivery efficiency. To reduce the consequences that might affect their daily activities, residents are encouraged to make alternative sources of water and keep enough water during the period of planned service interruption.

I actually despise the way Memorial Day has become forgotten. Growing up in a tourist area, "MDW" is always a huge thing, people travel to my area, everyone I went to school with is out partying, and posting about their adventures. And I'm not gonna lie, I was caught up in it for a few years too. But then you look at the Memorial Day services, and there's barely anyone. The beaches are filled from sealine to the boardwalk, and there's open seats at these Memorials. Memorial Day weekend isn't an excuse to drink, a long weekend, or a party day. It's meant to remember and honor those who gave their lives so we have the freedom to drink and party. They gave their all, so we all owe everything to them. That message has gotten so lost over the years and it needs to be fixed. All have some, some have all.
