Thinking about how radically different societies with eidetic memories could be in terms of things like advertising, public decoration and infrastructure and media. It's annoying enough for us to hear an advert jingle and get it stuck in our heads for weeks or even years, but with eidetic memory that's a whole other level. If I think I'm aggressively annoyed by such things, how would a drell or salarian feel? Have to wonder if their own colonies have very strict rules on such things, if public spaces are built extremely mindfully, with a lot of purposeful spaces and functionality and a lack of visual noise and temporary nonsenses. "This thing will literally be in my head forever, so it better be beautiful and/or functional", type thing. Annoying adverts would be fucking LOATHED and probably tank products in such places. Maybe there would even be laws around such things as predatory advertising practices (like ones that encourage gambling or addictive and dangerous behaviours) because there's that extra level of susceptibility when you literally cannot stop your brain from thinking about it.
Reviewers might be very prestigious. If you watch a piece of media or read a book that's in your head for life so you want to consume media that's worth that, so a trusted reviewer would be very valuable. Tough job to be the reviewer though!
No wonder Thane meditates, you'd need to really hone that ability to sort through thoughts and then make the brain shut up. Also makes sense that drell have that very compartmentalisation of the self thing going on, or at least that's how Thane describes things. Perhaps this is something seen moreso in drell that go off world, a necessary mindset to cope with a loud universe that is needed more keenly depending on situation. I take a lot of what Thane says with a pinch of salt in reflection of the whole of drell society because he had such a particular upbringing from such a young age (I do have to wonder how many of his philosophies were honed and exaggerated because they were useful to the hanar handlers vs how much is true and accurate to the general populace; no doubt what he says are drell philosophies but how many average drell are living them to that level day to day?)
Conversely, do you suppose there are areas where overstimulation is welcome; gardens, art installations, plazas that just blast every sense possible as a means to stop the brain from slipping into memory and keep you instead present. Help, my brain won't shut up, get me to the eXtreme dome stat!
This brought to you by it was 90% humid this morning and I couldn't sleep and my brain was so loud with memories and gosh how fucking awful that would be if I could remember literally everything ever all the time.
