In your opinion, how do Grian and Taurtis differ when it comes to processing trauma? How are they similar?
Grian ignores and tries to forget. He's more spiteful. He's more agressive or reckless when faced with reminders of his past.
Sometimes he'll have moments he'll freeze, others he'll snap and revert to how he was in YHS- with an ill-planned and cold attack.
Often time these moments are sudden.
Small things like white bunnies upset or anger him. if he has a bow and arrow on him, he'll often kill them on sight without a thought.
When things come crashing down, so does he. Its an explosion (sometimes literally) and it takes time for him to get built back up.
With Taurtis, its a slow acclimation. Its small things snowballing into him having dozens of moments and encounters and words stuck in his head, from small reminders throughout days or a week that make him shut down.
He goes through either denial, or completely shuts down.
He's never known how to comprehend his own feelings or process things correctly. Being easily upset can't co-exist with being a long-term roommate of Sam.
Taurtis ignores. then he denies. he blames someone or something else. and then he pretends he forgives, and then he breaks.
There's no point in his life that he's had a real understanding of what is and isn't okay, or what is and isn't coping
He's less likely to talk about it than Grian would be- and that's saying something. Taurtis has had a lot of severe trauma- bodily and mentally.
His breaking is quiet and alone. it's locked in a cave, underground, trying to process it. or trying to ignore it. trying to find small things to distract. trying to ignore what happened, pretending it didn't.
grudges and fear are harder than blissful ignorance and denial.
