#maximum ride

so uhm.. I finished the whole kotlc series the other week and I'm still trying to cope with being done reading...

It’s been a while since I’ve watched or read the series, so I might misremember some things.

All that Katniss wanted to do was survive the Games and keep her family safe. Even after winning, she still suffers from PTSD and hunts in the woods.

Her romances with Peeta and Gale NEVER made her a besotted teenager who thinks about making out with them all the time (*coughs* Max) or distracted her from putting her family / the mission first and instead focus on their romantic relationship multiple times (*coughs* Fang *coughs*)—Katniss is still a goal-oriented survivalist who sacrifices herself for the people she cares about.

And unlike Max and Fang, Katniss and Peeta aren’t consumed by their selfish, toxic, codependent love and lust that neglected their family and mission that resulted in a teenage pregnancy—it took Katniss and Peeta 15 years after being free to finally have children.

Random thought: Maybe Fang and Gale have a few similarities in how they’re the best friends / love interests of Max and Katniss in a toxic relationship where they both take care of their family.

These two teenage boys wanted to sacrifice people just to relax or take revenge.

They suddenly kissed their female best friend without consent while the latter was vulnerable, where Fang and Gale took advantage of their confusion to do what they wanted instead of what Max and Katniss wanted.

Fang and Gale constantly changing the subject from family and survival to make it about their romantic relationships multiple times to Max and Katniss.

They purposely made them jealous by chatting and flirting with other girls.

They both feel entitled / ownership of being exclusive in the romantic relationship with Max and Katniss.

Fang and Gale forced Max and Katniss into awkward situations about their romantic relationship on several occasions even though Max and Katniss didn't want to talk about it, but they still persisted.

Both boys are considered as “acts like a brother / is like a brother” to Max and “like a cousin” to Katniss. 

Both dark-haired teenagers are weirdly jealous of an open, emotional blond dude (Dylan and Peeta) who puts others first—and not just the female main character—said blonds would sacrifice their lives instead of others so that Max, Katniss, and their family could be happy.

...No wonder I hate both Fang and Gale since the beginning. But I love Everlark. Max should have just stayed single and romance should have never existed in the first place because it really ruined the characters and plots. 👏

Since you continue to have so many thoughts about this.

I will say this I actually hate that comparing Max to Katniss. In the 2000s teen female protagonist were always pitted against eachother and it did nothing to harm young teens opinions. These are two completely different characters in completely different worlds. They are aloud to act differently thats the beauty of it.

Okay, so they're madly in love, and I can see where you become more dependent on the one you love. However, when the dependency is taken to levels such as these, you know there's a problem.

Max was anti-teen pregnancy then became pregnant. She puts the Flock first then made it into Fang first over everyone. She was an independent, but became romance-driven. Max say, “I’d spend the end with family” and then was waiting to die with Fang.

Fang leaves because his romance with Max endangers the Flock, then he comes back and repeats the same patterns. He accepts Maya, but then rejected Ari. He respects Max but then repeatedly ignores what she wants and distracts her. Fang hates Dylan because he touches Max and was concerned with her well-being when Fang previously kissed Max without consent. Twice.

Throughout the whole 9 books, Max and Fang kissed fully on the lips over 16-17+ times... Without pecking, mind you (unless that one scene of Max kissing Fang without thinking counts in TAE, maybe?). Fang kissed Max's forehead in SOF. But then rest are just full on make out sessions. Except that one time Fang kissed Max's eyelids and cheeks in Nevermore.

These two need to think with their brains and not their hormones because they really should have focused more on the Flock and saving the world, not each other.

Romance should have never existed in Maximum Ride. The books should have kept the found family dynamics and made each of the Flock members interact with each other more with development. I read Maximum Ride for the six, traumatized wing people saving the world—not two besotted teenagers in a toxic relationship neglecting everyone because of their so-called love and make out sessions...

Funny story, when I was 14-15, I read TAE first and then read FANG, which I didn’t know was the sixth book. But even then, I was so goddamn disappointed and hated Max's and Fang’s characters in FANG.

I was like, “This is not the same characters” because they’re so different in TAE.

Even being the same age as them, I FUCKING HATE THEIR ROMANCE.

14-15 year old me was like 🙄 every time Max and Fang’s forced romance was in the pages.

As an adult, I recently reread few of the books months ago and, uh… Let’s just say this series didn’t age well.

Again, its a far from perfect series. The author(s) weren't good at keep the stories or relationships in order, but alot of people including myself grew up with this ship and loved it . Even if we are older and wiser now, we can still enjoy flawed things (we like this series after all). Just be aware of this when spam asking people.

Edgelord Dar and Millie Fitzsimmons both in the royal au version of Not Alone After All and The Maximum Reboot au are close friends though Millie sees Edgelord as the older brother, she's never had while Edgelord sees Millie as his little sister. This is in both aus and despite Edgelord being an Antihero he is actaully very supportive of how Millie uses her powers in the royal au he's the one who taught her how to keep the power of darkness from corrupting her heart.

Millie: No no you didn’t Nate

Nate: Don’t look at me look at Schroeder

Schroeder: What I didn’t break it

Nate: that’s funny how did you even know it was broken

Schroeder: Because it’s sitting right in front of us and it’s broken

Nate: Suspicious

Robo punk: if it matters probably not but Sarah was the last person to use it

Sarah: Liar I don’t drink coffee I drink tea

Robo punk: oh really then what were you doing by the coffee pot earlier

Sarah (showing her cybernetic hand): I use the wooden stirs to get the extra rust out of my bionic suit you idiot you should know that by now
