Ok so i hc that while drunk Matt kinda slurred "Augustus" together and it ended up being similar to August so thats how the nickname happened because he refuses to call him Gus out of stubbornness thats the explanation

Matt plays Grudgby and Gus plays Flyer derby. They go to each other’s practices and games and cheer each other on. They have also exchanged sports jackets because they’re all cute like that.

Gus and Matt were both inseparable and obnoxious as friends. Once they started dating it only got worse. They make fun of everyone and everything constantly.

They have a game where they take turns gradually doing more outlandish and embarrassing things one upping each other until the one of them cringes.

Steve’s sidecar and spare helmet were for Matt. But Matt was being a brat and didn’t want to come. King riding along made him very happy but also kinda bittersweet 

Gus and Matt regularly have cute lil sleepovers

Matt and Gus have matching bracelets cause that’s adorable

The first time Matt saw Gus use the memory power on someone he was both terrified and thought it was really cool

When he was really little (like kindergarten) Matt had a lot of trouble making friends and got bullied a lot until he became friends with Bria. Once he switched to hexside though and no longer needed her protection and got closer to Gus, he pulled away from her and they eventually got out of contact.

They go on a lot of dates in the human realm. Gus loves human science so they visit lots of museums and stuff

Matt is genuinely interested in humans like Gus is, just not as much. This was part of (but not the whole) reason he took over the HAS. The other reason was to impress Bria.

They mutually pine for years until they graduate. With their lives changing they both realize that they don’t want to lose each other and decide to confess before it’s too late. They end up confessing at the same time and it’s really cheesy and awkward and adorable.

Gus adores kpop and listens to it almost exclusively. His favorite group is Twice and his bias is Dahyun. He collects CDs and struggles not to take a lil bite. (He just can’t resist the shiny cookie)

When gus got back from the human world, he info dumped to Matt about it. They were both super traumatized and it was a nice way to reconnect and get a sense of normalcy through all the rebuilding and everything. This is how they really started bonding. Like they were kinda friends while they were fixing up the graveyard and could laugh and joke. But this is how they really got close

Gus knows his taste is trash but he loves Matt so he wears it with a badge of honor 

Willow was skeptical of Matt when they first started dating but as time went on and she saw how happy he made Gus she came around. Now they lift weights together once a month 

Once matt joined Gus’ illusion classes they sat next to each other and Matt quickly became a huge distraction. They passed a lot of notes and Gus’ grades slipped a bit. 

Matt was really annoyed when Gus had his growth spurt because he was now taller despite being younger. He was never taller than Gus again.

Steve LOVES Gus. They immediately hit it off and bond easily. ( I mean they’re both precious and lovable of course they get along well). They also tease Matt together a lot. 

When around the rest of the Hexsquad, Gus and Matt go out of their way to troll everyone constantly

Gus unironically adores the stupid little hair toss. You know the one

Matt actually loves physical affection. He doesn’t do anything more than handholding in public, but when no one is looking he is a huge cuddle bug

One of Matt’s favorite human things is Pokemon. His favorite game is Ultra Sun and his starter was Litten because he  really likes incineroar.

Gus was Matt’s tutor for illusions for most of their school years

The time during the collector apocalypse was really formative for Matt and really  traumatized him a lot, but also kinda forced him to grow up a bit due to all the responsibilities. The reason he became such a good leader was because he was constantly striving for what he thought Gus and Steve might do.
