He lost the oar with a nat 1 preventing the boat from being broken completely in half, and then promptly came upon a fork in the path. One path was calmer, narrower, and the other was harsher, and ended in a drop. He broke off the front part of the boat, pushed it against the wall at the last moment to try and guide the boat down the calm path. For a moment, it appeared to work! The front of the boat began down the calm path, but then, the tail was swept out by the rushing, harsher side. So what is a man to do? Dive underneath the benches of the boat, break his arm, and fall! He’s ok though, he got out.
