Oh, but what more did the devil do when he fell?          (what greater sin was his?)                                  He lived.

Am I the sun? Were you the sea? Are we nothing more than a recycled tragedy? (Icarus died with the taste of sun on his lips. You died with the taste of mine on yours)

I can't stop thinking about a teenage Steve Rogers gripping the still warm hand of Sarah Rogers and whispering hoarsely, "Come on Ma, stand up, you always stand up, please -"
You were meant for more than this. Your hands shake as you breathe in. Breathe out. Can’t get it under control. Maybe they were right; maybe you were never meant for war. The guy from Brooklyn, finally brought to his knees. You laugh, and it reminds you of days long gone, when laughs meant happiness and not this. Not hopelessness beyond repair. When you didn’t have to pick yourself up over and over and over again but you still chose to. You push off the ground on shaking knees. You close your eyes and steady your hands. In the distance you hear screaming. You take a breath and accept that this is where you belong. This is who you are. Just a brave little soldier.

Our whispered scripture lingered on the scattered ashes of a once holy home. We were prophets, haunted by worshipping ghosts.
We, the forsaken ones | p.d
