Matilda the Musical for #moviemonday (mild spoilers) I feel like everyone knows the story of Matilda. If you grew up with the book and movie, then it likely has nostalgic value and memories. The play is based on the book and movie and somehow also those memories and nostalgia. The musical movie is based on the play, so it is different and similar in so many ways. This movie is an entirely different product than the 1995 version of Matilda. Matilda is born to Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, two self-absorbed people who don't want to have a child, and so Matilda raises herself. She teaches herself how to read, do complicated maths, and be a better person than her parents' role models demonstrate. Then she's sent to school run by Ms. Trunchbull, an abusive bully who peaked when she was in the Olympics. Matilda learns the schools rules, then sets about breaking them, and likely saves lives from straight up child abuse from Trunchbull. The musical part is fun and some are catchier than others - I had the School Song stuck in my head for three days (the alphabet one) - and you get to see different sides of characters throughout the film. [Spoiler] Now, one thing that disappointed me was Matilda's story she told Mrs. Phelps the librarian. Somehow, I'm fine with telekinesis, but her magically knowing about Magnus and his wife didn't sit well with me. One of the aspects I enjoyed about Miss Honey's original character was her trusting Matilda and being able to share the story of her parents, rather than Matilda just randomly knowing it all already. I did love Matilda's expressive way with storytelling and Mrs. Phelps reactions, though 😄 If you enjoy Matilda or musicals, you'll probably enjoy this, and if you're new to Matilda, then music's not a bad way to start a magical journey 😍 8/10 would watch again #matilda #matildathemusical #moviereview #netflix #musical https://www.instagram.com/p/CoAs1t7SgLc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
