Originally built to offer innovative learning that encouraged critical and creative thinking during the global rise of fascism in the 1940s, despite its many struggles Goddard College remained defined by its opposition to authoritarian and oppressive efforts, its support of marginalized groups and its radical approach to learning until it was closed by its board and president for reasons caused by their own mismanagement.

The Goddard Spark is an effort to reignite the “spark” that made Goddard College so special in the form of a new lifelong learning program primarily hosted on the Goddard College campus in Plainfield, VT inspired directly by and aiming to intelligently evoke the pedagogy, values and culture of Goddard College. It being developed by Goddard alum Adam Myers in partnership with Execusuite, the new owners of the Goddard College campus and the Goddard trademark.

Goddard’s forced closing robbed not only future students from its life changing approach to learning but also broke the hearts of staff, faculty and students who poured the hearts and souls into the school for years, and for some decades. It was a very special, transformative, deeply essential space that quite literally changed the lives of all that attended. It deserves to have its legacy live on.

The Goddard Spark instructors will be collectively offering a large variety of unique and accessible curriculums that will explore everything from music, personal empowerment, community organization, leadership, and beyond in inclusive, diverse and compassionate student-first environments that recognize and respect individualized learning styles and meet individual needs.

Well, massive in my opinion.

So I decided to start putting stuff on a different blog, and the first step is put the images on this one.

So here are the nearly-complete wings, before I was able to sew it all together.

It is about 6 1/2 feet - and because I'm American, I need to add a silly way to measure that. So it is about the same wingspan of your average bald eagle.

For my metric friends, that's almost 2 meters or 198 cm.

I worked on it for three months. That might sound pretty fast, but I've been out of work since last May (a year tomorrow) after developing a (hopefully) temporary digestive disorder that eventually required a feeding tube to avoid the whole 'starving to death' thing.

So I've had nothing but time.

Here are some pictures of the final result.

I think I'm going to add some shoulder straps to keep it up a little easier and to better distribute the weight. It's about 3lbs (about 1 kilo and some change). That doesn't sound heavy, but carrying it around all day on top of being medically fragile got really hard, so I think that will help.

Here's a close-up of the gloves I added. I also used a plastic clothes hanger to add a handle so that I can actually have the wings completely spread (I'm tiny, so my arms have no chance otherwise)

I might outline the interior of the shawl but I haven't decided yet.

With the implementation of @emichan252 SVTFOE Child, it’s time to pick our next one. This time around, I’ll be announcing three artists SVTFOE AU Children to be put in next with the first name being the first to be implemented.

Also, I will be making a few corrections to @mewangie‘s June as well to compliment the style of Aradia and Julia. IMPORTANT: Updates/vector corrections may occur frequently with this project. Even though I’m very familiar with how to draw our child, I am stepping into complete unknown territory as far as drawing other kids. So, while one day I may think “hmm, that looks good” for one child, a few days later I may think “hmm, no let me try this...” and make corrections as needed. After all, I want this to be near perfect because eventually, I actually might order a local printing company to make a test poster of this hue hue.

And I know this is where I put my fic and stuff. But except for occasional life updates I tend to keep it to that.

But.

I've worked on this for 3 months and I'm proud as absolute hell.

It measures around 6 1/2 ft (214cm) across and I'm quite proud.

I still have to actually assemble it, and that is going to be a whole ordeal, but still.

I'm really proud of this.

Not being able to work and struggling to write with all my recent health issues has really taken a lot out of me. Just kind of sitting around being useless and expensive.

But I MADE this.

With my own two hands.

And it feels good to actually make something.

So yeah.
