Mosque of the Companions (Massawa, Eritrea).
This mosque dates back to the early 600s AD, and is believed to be the oldest mosque in Africa. According to Islamic tradition, it was built by companions of the Prophet Muhammad who were fleeing persecution from people in Mecca.
