Song that inspired me while writing - Moral of the Story Ashe
. . .
“Whatcha doin on your phone?” Y/n was intently starring at her boyfriend through the top of her lashes, almost glaring at him from across the table.
“Nothing baby, just answering the boys.” He said with a reassuring look, turning off his phone and setting it on the table next to him. He looked up at Y/n with the most pure gaze in his chocolate brown eyes, the look that she swooned over.
“Dinner’s delicious baby, thank you.” He soothed, looking back down to the meal she had spent all night preparing.
He didn’t like how quiet her response was, so he added on to try and start conversation.
“It tastes different, did you add anything else to it?” He knew this was her favorite meal, and how much loved to cook. Everytime she prepared a meal, she would put her self taught culinary skills to the test. Any other day it would make her get butterflies over the fact that he paid this much attention to her cooking, but now Y/n only nodded her head, leaning back into the dining room chair.
“Yea.” She said almost annoyed, shrugging her shoulders. He carefully looked up at her, setting his fork down before he got the chance to finish his bite.
“What’s wrong?” He could sense her discomfort from across the table, looking into Y/n’s direction to see her now toying with her food.
“Hm?” She looked at him faking innocence,
“Oh nothing, just wondering how soon you’re planning to meet up with her again, that’s all.” She had a nonchalant tone to her voice, although she didn’t find the situation fine in the slightest.
His worried expression dropped the second he heard her words. Now his stomach filled with emptiness, and a feeling he had tucked away, hoping to never resurface again. He set his fork down and leaned back into his chair, defeated.
“Really Y/n?” He was met with nothing but the sound of her fork lightly tapping the plate beneath it.
“Really?” He asked again, with force, yet more desperate than before.
“It’s like you aren’t even giving me the chance to change. I can’t even go on my phone now without being suspicious to you.” His voice held suppressed anger, and he was upset by her words, yet he knew he had no right to be.
“Oh please, like you ever stopped contacting her.” Y/n got up from her seat as she finished her dinner, making her way to the sink to clean the few dishes that didn’t make it to the washer.
“Why can’t you just trust me Y/n?” He asked desperately.
“Oh I did trust you. I did Mashiho. That’s what got me here in the fucking first place.” She said more aggravated than earlier. It’s like she didn’t know what to do. She loved him, genuinely to a point that it physically hurt her. And she hated corny stuff like that, but it was true. Everything about him just made her go crazy, was it necessarily healthy though? She didn’t want to even answer, knowing the answer probably wasn’t what she wanted it to be.
“Y/n, I don’t understand baby.” He stood up, making his way to her side at the sink, wanting to reason with her.
He continued on, “It’s like we’ll get to a good point and, suddenly you’re just distrusting of me again.” Mashiho tried to speak with innocence, and it drove her crazy.
“Mashiho please,” she was now speaking with a hushed tone, and her emotions were going on a spiral as she tried to figure out how she was feeling. She wanted to slam the plate she was currently holding into the wall, but at the same time just wanted to cry herself into a hole in the very spot she stood at.
He saw her trying to continue her sentence and started rubbing her back, attempting to soothe her, know how emotional she was, especially as of recently. She shrugged him off though, regaining reality of the situation after realizing who else his hands had touched.
“How should I feel? Why should I trust you? You were dishonest, you cheated Mashiho, countless times with her, do I need to remind you of that? Huh?” Y/n was now facing him, eye to eye. He had to look away because of how strong her gaze was.
“You aren’t even with me because you love me. You’re with me because you know no one will ever love you like me, and you yearn for that. You like that sense of security of having me wrapped around your finger, knowing you’re in control.” She was so sure of her words, doubting herself previously to even knowing of the affair, and after finding out, it gave her even more reason to believe her doubts. The way he pleaded with her to listen to him, to understand him. The way he begged her to just wait, and clear her mind before making a decision. He didn’t do it because he loved her, he did it because she loved him.
His eyes held surfacing tears of frustration.
“That isn’t true at all Y/n, why would you even say something like that?” When she looked back into his eyes, she could see that he was genuinely hurt. This just confused her emotions more. How was she supposed to feel now? He had her in her vulnerable stage, and she felt drained and helpless.
“I’m not proud of it Y/n. I’m not. I fed into the temptation and I couldn’t help myself. I know baby, I know that isn’t an excuse. I know that doesn’t make up for it. But I love you. I love you so much more than you could ever imagine. I love you more than myself…”
His words were only a blur now. To be completely honest, Y/n had stopped listened passed the part where he sobbed about the way she was just too tempting to ignore. How pathetic.
“No Mashiho, no.” He stopped talking immediately and watched her gaze go down to her fingers, not knowing what her next move, or words would be.
“I just can’t.”

a/n ; randomly thought of this after seeing an edit. I have another idea, but let me know if anyone wants a continued part, or if I should just leave it as is. I’ll also go back tomorrow and fix ant mistakes I possibly made. (Also sorry for the spacing, this was done in my notes so 🥲)
