Her fracturing in fifth year and the way Mary built herself back up had paved the way to her future; the offer to fight in a brewing war had come after her nails were already red raw from years of clawing her way back to normalcy after what had happened with Mulciber. They might have thought they’d ruined her to the bone and would have her begging for mercy after leaving her scarred, and as much as Mary had wanted to pack up her bags and run off back to the muggle world, it had given her insight. An opportunity to view the wizarding world for how broken it really was. Yes, they might have broken her, but she pieced herself back together and dove into her school work. Right after graduating, not only was the offer there for the order, but also an internship through St Mungos – a healer traineeship focusing on poisons and rare diseases.
But mary got pieced back together wrong.
Her anger has grown just as she had after that night, her words had poisonous venom woven through them, her view towards the world had twisted and changed – if they could use and study dark magic to gain the upper hand, why couldn’t she? Late nights are spent huddled over forbidden books and translations, trying to make sense of it all. sometimes she thinks she can still feel the dark magic swirling around inside her; whatever Mulciber had done that night left Mary with a permanent scar on her wrist – a jagged ‘M’ that she’s learned to love, even after countless nights wondering what it’s supposed to mean.

She bides her time with fake smiles and conversations with people she knows would rather see her fall than shine. She waits for the right moment to strike; hoping it will come soon. Mary wants devastation, she wants ruin. But Mary also wants the girl who was too forgiving, too nice for her own good, the girl who smiled no matter how bad her day was to have a life too. She just doesn’t know how to stop the rage from overcoming her entire being.
