18+ MDNI
Billy softly knocked on your door, not wanting to wake anyone in the rooms nearby and have someone find out he's visiting you at such hours of the night.
You eagerly opened the door with a grin, wearing a short baby pink nightgown, the material was almost sheer. Billy tried to no let his gaze wonder to your exposed body, keeping his eyes on your face and your pretty smile.
You take his hand, your hand so much softer and smaller than his, and pull him inside. "I'm so happy you actually came!" You say, trying to keep your voice down as you sit down on the bed as he stands in front of you.
He smiles and places a hand on your cheek, soflty caressing it. "You know I can't resist you, princess." He says and uses his other hand to place a strand of your hair behind your ear. "What's keeping you up, luv?"
You hum as you lean into his touch, cheeks warming up at his attention and words. "I dunno..." You lie, not knowing how to tell him the reason you're actually up this late is because you can't stop your mind from fantasizing about him and his touch in the most inappropriate ways.
He chuckles and raises your head so you'll properly look at him. "Yeah you do." He says with a smirk and moves his thumb to soflty tug on bottom lip. "Why don't you tell your dear old Billy the truth, dear?" He says, but it's more of a demand than a question.
'Your Billy'. Your cheeks flush even harder at that. The thought of him being yours, of you being his, brought fire to your insides. "I... couldn't stop thinking..." You mutter, looking at him with big eyes.
"Yeah? About what, princess?" He says and steps closer to you, making you have to crank your neck even more to look at him and his smirking face, almost as if he already knew.
You gulp and flutter your eyelashes, trying to find the courage to say and he chuckles. Seeing the overly excited and confident girl he knows being turned into putty in his hands.
"You..." Your voice comes out barely above a whisper, embarrassment clouding your senses. You knew he felt the same, you both knew, but there was something so embarrassing of admitting it to him like this.
"Me? Oh I'm flattered, sweetheart." He says in an almost condescending tone. "Just that? You couldn't just be thinking about my existence, I'm sure."
You giggle shyly at that and nod no. "Was thinking about your mouth... and your hands... How they'd feel against me... And your..." You stop, not wanting to say, but he got the message, making him smirk and chuckle again.
"That's why you're up, princess? Had so many naughty thoughts about me, that you got too horny to sleep?" He says and squats down to look you at eye level, like you'd do to a child. "That's why you called me, begging me to come? Hoping I'd touch you in that tiny nightgown of yours?"
Your cheeks heat up even more and you bite your lips as you nod, feeling embarrassed and aroused. He took your hand of your cheek and stood up, looking down at you with an almost evil like smirk.
"But if I remember correctly, my little girl told me over the phone we wouldn't do anything naughty. Remember that, princess?" Your eyes widen at his words and you grip your pants, trying to bring him closer again, to busy trying to get him to fuck you to notice he called you his.
"What? No! Come on, Billy! Please! Just this once! I promise." You whine and try to pull him, but his strong build makes him stay steady in place.
He crosses his arms and chuckles. "I dunno, princess. I don't really think that's true. I think if I fuck you right now, you'll ask- no. Beg for it every night." He eyes your desperate expression and almost caves in, but he knows that he shouldn't, that he can't.
You whine again, pouting your lips softly, trying to think of anything to convince him to help you out.
An idea strikes your mind and you kneel down on the bed, looking at him with a pleading expression. "Just lend me your hand then! You won't have to do anything! I'll move it! It's just so much bigger than mine!" You mewl and bring your hands together as you beg.
His smug expression falls and he raises his brows, looking at you shocked. He suppose it could be breach to what you said. At first he just stared at you, then slowly moved to sit beside you and placed his hand on your lap.
"Just this once. We won't do this again, sweetie. You know very well we can't." You smile wide at his words and immediately shift your position, trying to find the best way to do this.
"Okay." You take a deep breath with a smile. "Sit behind me." You say and part your legs, still kneeling. He crawls behind you and gives you his hand again.
You take his hand and guide it to your core, using your hand to push your soaked underwear to the side. You gently grab one of his fingers and slowly push it inside yourself, moaning softly.
It was so much bigger and thicker than yours, making it so much better. You start to grind your hips on it, wishing he would actually move his hands, but taking what you could get, moaning and panting.
It doesn't take long for you to want more, so you guide another one of his fingers inside, the movement making the palm of his hand bump against your clit and you mewl.
You're too busy fucking yourself on his fingers to notice the turmoil on Billy's face behind you. There's absolutely nothing that he wants more right now than to take control of the situation, to finger you until you're nothing but a squirming mess in his arms. But he keeps to his words, torturing both of you.
You throw you head back as you moan, pressing his hand deeper, reaching a spot you never felt before, bringing tears to your eyes. Your walls start clamping around his fingers and you come, soaking his hand and the bed.
You pant, leaning on his and he presses a kiss to your temple. "There we go, princess." He murmurs against you and takes his fingers off you, making you whimper. "Think you can sleep now, sweetheart?"
You nod slowly, body still in that daze and he chuckles, moving to put you under the covers.
"Sleep tight, love." He mutters and presses a kiss to your forehead. You flutter your eyes closed and smile, but what you don't see is him walking out with the two fingers that were inside you in his mouth.
The Sunâs (Phil and Chayanne) always the most overprotective over the Moonâs of the family (Missa and Tallulah)
Like today with q!Phil being extra worried for Tallulah so he saved her first and Chayanne always being the one to jump in and attack anybody who dares to hurt q!Missa.
The entire family is protective of course but those two have this flare to them where they burn like the sun and unleash on those that dare hurt the most emotional of the family. Chayanne brings out his sword and stands in front of Tallulah and q!Missa if need be and Phil will go out of his way to scold and yell, making it known that if anyone misses with his family they will mess with him too.
He's so, so old, and it weighed on him. For days and years and centuries and eons he's exsisted, watching creation and destruction and life and death and so so many other things that would have names to stick with them for many more years. He was there for the creation, and he will be there for the destruction, and maybe he will find solace then.
For now he is alone, but not for long. The sparks of life, no not life, sparks of creation have been popping up. He won't be alone much longer, just a few more years. The others will be alive soon, and then they will grow. They will grow into their power and join him, they just need to survive until then.
There were a few he could tell would take long journies to get here, some would be fast, quick; it will hurt so so much but they will help the others and of course it's not fair.
It will never be fair, but that's not what creation is.
Oh hey. I wonder what ship Iâll politely ask for.
A small Drabble maybe about Remus pestering Logan and it not really working (think of in Date with Disaster with the whole âlovely singing Remus very good) and Remus hitting some kind of exasperated breaking point with him- only for Logan to be off handed oh sweet?
Like saying âWhy would I want you to leave- Iâm quite fond of your presenceâ or âI find your ranting quite interestingâ which catches Remus off guard. Maybe. I donât know. Iâm sick about them,,,
Summary: Remus has his own, unique ways of trying to get another side's attention. To put it simply, he likes to annoy people. Though there's hardly any challenge to get Patton to scream, and he's made Roman run away so many times it's barely even fun anymore. There's one side he just can't get to (well, except maybe once), Logan.
Remus makes it his mission to irritate Logan to no end.

3.5k words of remus trying his best to annoy logan...
Remus had his own, unique ways to get another sideâs attention. Whilst heâd watched Patton wave and shout until someone looked at him, or laughed as Roman huffs and sulks until someone asks whatâs wrong â he found those methods werenât really in his arsenal. Hell, even Janusâ preferred go to of insults and snippy comments until someone fires back arenât really his thing. He lends himself to something a little more⊠spatially unaware. His talents, best suited for the up close and personal.
Quite simply, Remus had a tendency to annoy people.Â
A lot of the time heâll focus these antics on his brother, but after all this time, he finds itâs not quite as fun to watch him shriek, thereâs no challenge in it â not with a side as dramatic as Roman. A man who seems to scream at the top of his lungs upon even the smallest of frights. (How he completes his so-called âquestsâ without bursting an eardrum, Remus doesnât know.) Heâs tired â bored, even â of leaving masses of spiders under Romanâs pillow and pressing his ear to the door to listen to him shriek. Heâs lost all excitement that comes from stealing Romanâs clothes and parading around in them, deliberately spilling all manner of substances on them before returning them to his brother's arms with nothing more than an; âoops! Have fun cleaning those!â
Prodding Janus just gets him smacked, Virgil is frustratingly good at scurrying away before Remus even has the chance to formulate a plan, and Patton just gives him a nervous laugh and an anxious, âoh itâs alright,â to anything he does. All in all, Remus is near acherontic with boredom at the lack of attention he seems to be receiving. And heâs never been able to get anything close to a satisfying reaction out of Logan.Â
Well, maybe once. But that had taken forever.
It was a challenge. And Remus never was one to back down from a challenge. A challenge is fun, itâs mentally stimulating â itâs something to do, isnât it? He isnât often granted an opportunity to just do stuff. He has to seize it when he has the chance.
Thus began his ultimate mission, Operation: Skillfully Heighten Inner Turmoil/Help Emotions Arise Dreadfully.Â
Or: SHIT/HEAD for short.Â
It had started small â despite Remusâ desire to dive head first into the deep end and truly rip shit up, he knew that when it came to Logan, he would have to work his way there. Who knows, he may even discover that it was the little things that bugged the nerd to no end!Â
So, Remus began with little things. Just small, hardly noticeable annoyances. Nothing like what he used to do to Roman, or what he tried to pull with Janus. No, there were no tentacles, no blood nor guts. Instead, he waited until nightfall, and swapped Patton and Loganâs glasses. It hadnât been that hard, he was well acquainted with the cover of darkness after all, he did his best work when the moon was high in the sky.Â
How was he supposed to know that Patton and Logan had the exact same prescription?
Neither of them had even noticed. Even in the event that they had the same glasses, Remus had hoped that maybe Patton kept the arms of his spectacles a little loose, or that they were somehow permanently smudged with flour or general skin grease. But no, of course not. Logan hadnât even noticed. And Remus had checked! He had hung around, clinging to the corners in the hallways, and the back of the couch, waiting for Logan to realise, waiting for his reaction. Nothing. Remus had received nothing. Oh well, at least he had gotten to experience the thrill of sneaking around. Besides, this endeavour was hardly going to be a challenge if he succeeded first try now, was it?Â
On his second attempt, he took a half-step up, for him at least. It had been significantly more difficult to get his hands on Loganâs tie, but when he had managed it â well, he hadnât really thought through what he was going to do. He had slipped into Loganâs room, once more under the cover of night, and barely paused to watch the sleeping side lest he accidentally woke him up. That being said, it was mildly amusing to see the man laying there in a sleep mask. Remus decided that if his ploy with the tie didnât work, heâd go after the eye mask next.Â
But Remus had snatched the accessory swiftly from where it sat hung over the back of Loganâs desk chair, and scurried from the room as fast as he could. He had paced up and down the hallway, deciding what to do. In the end, he had decided that nothing he could do to the tie would bug Logan as much as simply⊠not giving it back. And thus, it made its way under Remusâ pillow. He figured that no one would have the balls to look there, if they were even courageous enough to venture into his room. As filled with oddities as it was, he had a feeling the others would be far too scared to dare look under his pillow. Especially given his tendency to let bugs fester in the living room couch cushions.Â
Unfortunately, the next morning, when Remus once more sought out Logan, ready to witness his irritation, he found the logical side sitting at the kitchen table, sipping a coffee, wearing a perfect replica of his usual tie.Â
So he owned multiple of the same clothing items. Great.
There went Remusâ plan of taking the eye mask next then.
On his third attempt to rile Logan up, Remus cast away his baby-steps. It was all moving far too slow for him, he never did have much patience. Act first, think later, and he was doing far too much plotting. He saves his plots for Thomas, the others, they get his first ideas. His first ideas are often his best ones!
This time, Remus went for the jam.Â
Yes, he couldâve been more sly. Sure, he couldâve left a trail of sticky residue right to his room so Logan would know the culprit. But he really wanted some entertainment. This was his reasoning for taking up residence on the kitchen counter, jam in one hand, waiting for Logan to emerge.Â
And wait he did, Christ, did Logan take his time.
Remus was just about ready to abandon the whole plan, jump from the countertop and simply smash the jar on the glass, leaving a pool of currants and glass in his wake â when the door opened. In sauntered Logan, eyes fixed on a clipboard he was studying rather furiously. Remus grinned where he sat and kicked his legs out, banging his heels off the cabinets below him rather spectacularly.
Itâs with a jump that Logan looks up, his gaze hazy and tired looking â the perfect circumstances to get a rise out of him. âRemus,â he says slowly, eyes softening as he tilts his head to the side, examining the spectacle before him.
Silently, still beaming wickedly, Remus twists the top off the jar. He sticks out the point of his tongue, still not saying anything, and digs his fingers into the jam. Where those damn fingers have been, even heâs not sure. They have a tendency to wander away from him at timesâŠÂ
âRemus,â Logan says again, his voice cracking a tad. âWhat are you- oh, thatâs repulsive,â he grimaces, walking to the other side of the kitchen to wretch the fridge open. He sighs, shaking his head a little. âHonestly, at least use a spoon.âÂ
Not pausing from shovelling the spread into his mouth, Remus froths. âNah, I like the flavour it adds! Extra seasoning!â He pointedly licks each of his fingers before continuing to scoop jam from the jar, being sure to splatter some on the floor as he does. Heâs certain that this will be the one to get Logan, it has to be!
Alas, Logan simply closes the fridge door and slackens where he stands. The clipboard lays limp in his hand and he shakes his head disapprovingly. âThatâs your jar now, I suppose,â he hums and turns on his heel, beginning to walk away. âEnjoy your lunch, Remus.âÂ
With that, heâs gone. And all Remus is left with is disappointment, and sticky fingers.
Uncertain with what to do now, Remus resigns his fourth attempt to the most pitiful form of annoyance he can muster up. Existing in the same space as his target, and refusing to leave. Because for all his thievery and swapping and jam eating, for all the scary images and blood he can conjure, he finds that it usually ends up being the most effective method. People donât generally enjoy being around him for extended periods of time.Â
Slipping down the hallway, Remus trails the sharp points of his fingernails down the wall, scratching and humming as he walks. Whilst heâs not taking his time, heâs far from rushing towards Logan. He knows all too well if he were to barrel carelessly into Loganâs space, then heâd know for sure that Remus was up to something â he at least needs to give the appearance of not having any ulterior motives. At least at first.
When he reaches Loganâs door, he doesnât bother knocking (why would he?), just thrusts the door open and steps inside. Bad smells tend to follow him a little, a lingering stench of rot and mold that cling to the air.Â
âRemus,â Logan once more greets from his desk, not bothering to look up from his computer screen. He doesnât even wave, doesnât turn, just acknowledges Remusâ existence and continues working.Â
âNerd,â Remus offers in return, slamming the door behind him, letting the wall rattle and the hinges creek. Logan doesnât react with more than an eyebrow raise, hands working tirelessly over his keyboard. It looks as though heâs scheduling something, perhaps laying out a timeline for Thomasâ next week â and oh what Remus wouldnât do to get his hands on an early copy of that, schedule some of his mayhem around it. Thomas doesnât thrive on a strict routine, yet Logan never seems to learn, thinking that this time Thomas will abide by his timings. How naive. Structuring everything so rigidly only gives Remus more opportunity to break through, how Logan hasnât realised this by now is a mystery.
Plonking himself down rather unceremoniously on the floor by Loganâs chair, Remus cranes his neck to look over the desk. He kneels, gripping the edge of the table and barely poking his eyes over the wood, reading the spreadsheet before him. He starts to hum, tunelessly and out of key, quiet at first.Â
Logan still says nothing, continuing to work.
Disgruntled, Remus scowls. He shakes his head, a tad wildly, and forces his usual wicked grin back onto his features, tapping his nails off the desk. Itâs deliberately out of time with his humming, a cacophony of noise that grates on the ears. If this were Roman, or even Virgil, he was trying to fuck with, the idea of grating would spring the image of taking a cheese grater to his cheeks to mind â but itâs Logan, so often unaffected by gore. So it would probably be a waste of time.
Remus does it anyway. He changes his humming to a whistle, summons a cheese grater, and carelessly rubs it hard across his cheeks. Logan glances down at him and his hands come away from the computer briefly, basketing in his lap. âAre you doing okay down there?â He asks, voice flat and broadly uncaring.
âScratching an itch,â Remus replies, wiping blood away with the back of his hand. He places the grater on the desk and settles back on his knees, turning his attention to Loganâs shoes. âWhatâcha workinâ on?â He asks, as innocently as he can (which isnât very innocent at all, actually) as he makes quick work of untying Loganâs laces and knotting them together.Â
âIâm attempting to construct a meal plan for next week, alongside times for eating. And trying to keep space open for cleaning and video editing,â Logan kicks Remus away gently, snapping his fingers so his laces return to their previous normalcy. Undeterred, Remus simply does it again. Surely if he keeps forcing Logan to fix it, then heâll get irritated. Surely.
âSounds boring,â Remus blows a raspberry, already growing bored. âMeal-prep,â he rolls his eyes and rises to his feet, staring at the computer screen. âI donât see why we canât just order in every night. Ooh! Or cook roadkill on the side of the street!â
âMoney and general hygiene,â comes Loganâs matter-of-fact response. He taps his fingers off his knees, watching Remus carefully as he begins to pace. When Remus doesnât say anything else in return, he turns his attention back to his computer. âIf you donât mind, Iâll be continuing my work now.â
Remus hums, pupils glinting as he keeps pacing. He stomps his feet a little, letting his feet land heavier and heavier with each step, before heâs essentially galloping behind Logan.
Logan who remains⊠unfazed.Â
Doing his best not to grumble and give away the game, Remus tightens his core and sharpens his mind. What else tends to generally upset people? What else just gets on peopleâs nerves?Â
He snags a pen off the edge of Loganâs desk and starts to click it repeatedly as he paces. He tuts loudly, he whistles, he hums off key.Â
And eventually⊠it works. Kind of.
With a sigh, Logan glances down at his lap and pushes his chair out, turning to face a rampaging Remus who has since begun to ruck up Loganâs bedsheets. âAlright, Remus. Did you need something?â
âNope!â Remus pops, sitting down on the end of Loganâs bed, bouncing to make the springs continuously creak.Â
âRight,â Logan nods. âThen you can continue to exist in my space, I suppose. If you need anything, please let me know. Now, I really must get this finished.â
Remus grits his teeth. Itâs okay, itâs all okay. He will drag Logan away from his work and get him to shout if it kills him.Â
Yet try as he might, he canât get Logan to react. When Remus plunges the room into a foggy, smokey, darkness, Logan simply reaches out and turns his lamp on. When Remus unplugs the computer at the wall, it doesnât even switch off â fucking battery life. When Remus plucks Loganâs glasses from his face and parades around the room wearing them, Logan merely pauses to squint at him â more amused than annoyed. When Remus starts to sing at the top of his lungs, Logan only hums along with him and bobs his head to the tune. When Remus rants endlessly, on and on, Logan nods and mhmâs as though heâs genuinely listening. Itâs downright insufferable.
Remus slumps to the floor in a defeated lump, bent over his knees with his forehead flat to the ground, and he lets out a wail akin to a dying humpback whale. Because as much as he adores a challenge; he prefers a challenge where he wins. Where he comes out victorious on the other side, holding his accomplishment high above his head. He wants to boast that he got Logan to crack, that he saw a glimmer of that hot orange anger within him, that he was the one to bring it out. Perhaps this would all be more effective if he just waited for Logan to put his routine in place, but itâs not fun then. Itâs not a game, itâs just his job at that point. So Remus yells, because heâs failed.
Only then does Logan save his spreadsheet, and shut his computer off. âRemus? What appears to be the matter?â
âNothing,â Remus grumbles, shifting to lay flat on the carpet. When he speaks, itâs muffled by the ground below him. Heâs giving up, as sad as it is. Heâll just go throw spiders at Roman, at least then heâd get some sort of reaction, even if itâs easy. Heâs ready to melt away, let his body melt into a thick, viscous sludge and seep into the carpet as his means of exit. ââM just gonna go⊠Got shit to do.â
Remus misses the way Logan blinks and fixes his glasses on his face. Or Pattonâs glasses. Fuck, it doesnât even matter, theyâre identical pairs. âDonât let me keep you from your⊠work.â Logan tries, albeit it with a lack of certainty. Honestly, heâs yet to figure out precisely what Remusâ purpose is, but heâs sure that Remus must have one. His best hypothesis so far is that heâs there to bring hidden things to the surface, to force the rest of them to confront the truth, no matter how ugly. And to allow Thomas to actually think about more adult topics, of course.Â
âWaste of time. You didnât even acknowledge I was here!â Remus whines, petulant and high. He canât help himself, this is the most attention heâs been paid all day. He didnât get what he wanted, sure, but maybe if he himself throws the tantrum itâll at least cause some discomfort. âI mean- seriously! Just say you donât want me around, or something! Gimme something here, Teach, Iâm dying. Iâm going to die and itâs your fault. Iâm emaciated and withered, look at me!â When Remus pulls his head up, heâs contorted, pale, skin sagging and dropping.Â
âI donât understand why you think these things,â Logan sighs, âI acknowledged you plenty. If you really wish to leave, you may. But donât feel forced. You were providing some excellent background noise and entertainment, I was rather fond of it. And I find your ramblings quite interesting.â He turns his hand over in the air, and Remus goes deathly still. For a moment, Logan almost believes Remus has died and it is his fault. Until he remembers thatâs ridiculous, straightens his tie, and glances down at the side on the floor.
Heâs still laying on his stomach, though heâs propped up onto his elbows now. Hair falling into his face as wildly as ever, he gawks up at Logan.Â
âAre you feeling alright? Youâve gone all⊠pink.â
Remus tries to blink away the stars in his eyes, yet every attempt falls flat. In fact, it feels almost as though heâs an asteroid soaring towards Earth, ready to crash and cause another mass extinction. Or like he has swarms of moths within his lungs, preparing themselves to flood the room the moment he speaks. He finds he canât speak, even if he could think of the words to say, as a frog sized lump rests heavy in his throat. Maybe itâs preventing the moths from escaping.Â
Never before has he been wanted. Never before has his presence been desired. Never has it been accepted, let alone encouraged. But here Logan sits, trying to get his work done, stating that Remus being around him isnât bothersome. Far from it, in fact.
And Remus isnât really sure what to do. This isnât his realm, not his kingdom to rule over. He resides over âevil,â anything dark and mysterious and taboo. Nothing that should be wanted, nothing that should be welcomed.Â
He shifts awkwardly on the floor, eyes darting around the room, looking everywhere but at Logan. The moths in his stomach may have been mislabelled. Because they are most certainly butterflies.
âRemus?â
âYeah-? Yeah, uh, Iâm gonna⊠go. Iâm gonna go. I have to go mess with Roman. See you around, Logan!â The words rush out of Remusâ mouth in a flurry, his tongue tying itself into a knot.
âOkay, well, when youâve finished with that, youâre more than welcome to return to my room. Perhaps we could even find a place in the schedule for you to brainstorm with Thomas in a more productive manner?â Logan suggests, doing his very best to prevent his amusement from showing on his face. Though it is mildly entertaining to watch Remus fluster himself.
âYep, will do!â Remus exclaims, plotting his escape. Maybe he really should just soak into the floor, at least then he wouldnât need to clamber embarrassingly to his feet and scamper out the door.
Logan raises an eyebrow, âand when you do, could you please return my tie?â
Remus scowls. Of course Logan knew it was him, and of course heâd noticed.Â
âI must admit, the attempt to swap my glasses with Pattonâs was inspired though.â
âThanks,â Remus grimaces and just barely resists the urge to stab himself repeatedly in the neck. ââKay, byeeeee,â he sings, taking this as his opportunity to make his escape, before his failed efforts begin to torment him too much. So just as he had intended â Remus melts into a red sludge which soaks into the carpet, before fading away as if dripping straight through the floor.
And Logan turns back to his computer with a smile, already clearing out a spot for Remus to create (limited, and more constructive) havoc within his carefully planned schedule.Â

u/pintroverted
Hi, all. Long time lurker, first time poster here, so excuse any incorrect formatting â also, feel free to redirect me to a more appropriate sub if this isnât the right place to post about this. But Iâm starting to get a little⊠freaked out, and I just wanted some advice. And sorry if I make any spelling mistakes, Iâm typing this on my phone whilst sitting on the floor of the closet.
Or, Nico is starting to notice something strange going on in Thomas' apartment, and is convinced the house is haunted. He turns to Reddit for advice. Things just keep getting weirder. Eventually, he finds out the truth, and it's not what he expected.
-
this is something super duper silly that i wrote practically in one sitting, because i miss nico, and i love the idea of him interacting with the sides. in this case... he feels a lot like heâs being haunted. this is a very self indulgent fic, written like a reddit post LMAO

total word count: 31,914 (2 chapters)
series:Â âlaurel hellâ verse
summary:
If there's one thing Logan has, it's a problem. In fact, he has a problem with just about everything. With the actions of his friends, with the culture surrounding college, with his general direction in life. He's out of control, battling to break out of the glass box he's been placed within. He's tired, and he's sick of living like this, and he has a problem.
Remus doesn't really have any problems, not proper ones, not like Janus, and not like Logan. He's always out of breath, always running a marathon. Because if he stops, for even a second, everything will catch up with him, and he'll be doomed. He's just trying to live life while he's able, trying to have fun whilst he can. Because he doesn't really have a problem, not real ones anyway.
Or, Remus and Logan have been hooking up for two weeks, and something is developing.

âYou know the story of the tortoise and the hare, donât you?â
Thomas doesn't really have anything to worry about, because he trusts Morality. Morality loves him more than anything else in the world. Morality would do anything to protect him. Morality will stop at nothing to ensure he's safe. And Thomas carries that fact with him wherever he goes. It's comforting, to be so loved. Loved so fully, in his entirety, by Morality.

âDonât be so silly, little one. Of course itâs not your fault! Listen to me. You trust me, donât you?â
âThereâs nothing wrong with saying no. If you donât want to play with them, little one, you shouldnât. You donât want them to join your game do you? Itâs okay, just trust me.â
âJust tell them you didnât do it. You didnât break it. You canât get in trouble. Donât worry, little one, Iâm here to keep you safe. Always. You can trust me.â
âSay that you did it, you just left it at home. You didnât forget, you just didnât put it in your bag. Trust me, listen to me, little one.â
âThat boy? Goodness, little one, no! Trust me, you donât like him, you canât. Donât be so silly. Donât stop trusting me now. I just want to keep you safe.â

Moralityâs hands are cold and firm across Thomasâ shoulders as he crouches in front of his bed, hands clasped on the sheets. His knees are starting to hurt, and his vision is clouded by the neverending wetness trickling from his eyes. Heâs not sure what time it is. He wants to go to sleep, but he just canât.Â
Heâs sure Morality is usually warm. They were the last time. He was certain. Then again, Thomas thought he was certain about a lot of things.
âCome now, little one,â comes the low call of Morality, stroking gentle across the top of his back. Their fingers stutter when they reach his neck, picking lightly at a scabbed over pimple that festers there. They seem fixated on it, for just a moment, before Thomas feels them ripple with a shudder behind him, and the soft touch continues. âYou should rest. Thereâs no use getting caught up in things that donât matter.âÂ
At least Moralityâs voice is warm, that remains a constant.Â
And despite the fact that his heart is pounding, and Thomas doesnât think he could sleep even if he tried â he listens. His legs are shaking when he finally stands, and Morality straightens behind him, rising from their odd little hunch.Â
The room is dark, and Thomas has school in the morning, and the longer he stands and stares at his neatly tucked bedsheets, the more drawn in he feels. But, he just has to ask, he has to know: âWhy do I feel so scared?â
He doesnât turn, doesnât move from where his eyes have fixed onto his pillow. Morality crowds ever closer, their freezing palm laying over the scab once more. âYouâre not,â they insist. Whilst caring, they leave no room for debate. Thomas wants to pry deeper, sink his claws into his question and let himself find an answer for once, but- âYouâre not, little one. Why would you be scared? What is there to be afraid of? Nothing, thereâs nothing. Itâs just you and me, dearest. Come now, come on, you need to sleep. You must sleep. Thereâs nothing to be afraid of. Iâll always keep you safe.â Their hands usher Thomas forwards, and whilst typically he would grumble and scoff at the incessant coddling, the sweetness of Moralityâs tone wraps around his mind like fuzzy cotton wool. It makes him feel safe.Â
Heâs trembling when he gets under the sheets, shivering like a leaf in the brisk autumnal breeze, and a cool nail runs down his cheek. It feels like being cut open. âYou trust me, donât you?â
âOf course I do,â Thomas croaks out, tugging his bedsheets up to his chin, breathing shallow. âOf course.â
âThat makes me so happy, little one,â their hand turns to card through his hair, and Thomasâ eyes flutter closed. When their knuckles brush over Thomasâ forehead, he swears he feels the rough texture of scales across his skin, but when he blinks his eyes open, itâs just regular old Morality. In all his sweet, cardigan-wearing goodness. âHappier than you could possibly know.â Their hands retreat from Thomasâ head, clasping low over their hips, squirming. Thereâs sweat gathered on their brow, and distantly Thomas wonders if presenting to him like this for such an extended period of time has tired his morals out.Â
He would feel bad if he wasnât so tired.
âNow, it really is time for you to go to sleep. Sleep tight, and dream sweetly, little one. Donât let anybody tell you that you donât matter. Always remember that to me, you will always matter most.â Morality nods solemnly, and as Thomasâ eyes close, slipping into blissful sleep, they begin to sink out. âI love you, so much.â
The words are spoken to an unhearing room, as Thomas is already asleep.Â
The next time Morality appears, theyâre warm. Their fingers are solid and sweet when they tap across Thomasâ forehead. âGoodness me, kiddo, youâre working so hard!â They exclaim, clapping boisterously. Itâs been a few weeks, and Thomas has mostly forgotten about their last interaction. Heâs hunched over his desk, skimming his feet over the floor as he works tirelessly on his chemistry worksheet. Chemistry has always been his favourite class.Â
âHm? Oh yeah, thanks,â he smiles, and Morality lights up.
âJust⊠keep thinking about this, okay? Just focus on your work, donât let your mind wander too much!â They swing their legs, perched on the edge of the desk, glasses sliding down their nose. This is the Morality Thomas knows. They seem more like themself today. Itâs usually the nights, or the brief moments of panic, that they get⊠different. Or maybe those moments are who they actually are, and theyâre different here.
There he goes, directly disobeying his own morals, getting distracted. Letting his mind wander.Â
âWill do,â he salutes, shaking himself. And Morality smiles, bright and sunny, and sinks out.
They reappear two days later, as the moon broaches the sky, shrouded in clouds. Thomas fiddles with his sheets, mind racing. He doesnât even notice when Morality rises up, but they must, because they step from the dark shadows of the corner of the room. Maybe theyâve always been here.
âWhatâs troubling you so much, little one?â A smooth, dulcet tone. Thomas snaps his neck up, craning where he lays. He drags his nails down his cheeks and the scratch is far from pleasant. Cool fingers wrap around his wrist before he can take his nails to his mouth, preventing him from chewing. âDonât bite them, it wonât bring you any comfort.â
The mattress should dip when Morality sits down, but it doesnât.Â
âYou can tell me anything,â Morality speaks slowly, âI swear. I can keep a secret perfectly well, little one.âÂ
âIâm scared,â Thomas manages, hating how small he sounds. But heâs alone, or mostly alone, in the comfort of his bedroom. Where else is a sixteen year old boy allowed to be scared? If not in the middle of the night in bed, then where?
Morality muses over this for a moment, their lips pulled into a thin line. Thomas worries heâs upset them, that they might run away and leave him truly alone. Then, they respond. âI know you are,â they mumble, âand Iâm not sure how to make you stop.â
âWhy am I so scared?â Thomas manages, clawing for answers. No one ever gives him a straight answer.
Moralityâs spine straightens. âYou- youâre not. Little one, thereâs nothing to be scared of. Youâre not scared,â the insistence in their voice does frighten Thomas. He feels much like a child being scolded. Morality softens, like they can feel his panic rising in his chest. âYou know the story of the tortoise and the hare, donât you?â
Thomas nods as best he can. Morality must know that heâs well aware of the old fable.Â
âSlow and steady wins the race,â Morality continues anyway, barely acknowledging Thomasâ nod. They hold their left wrist in the circle of their right hand fingers. âSometimes, you have to use trickery and ingenuity to win over a stronger opponent.â
Thomas isnât sure what this has to do with his current predicament. He says as much.Â
âConsider this a bedtime story, little one, you used to love those, didnât you?â Moralityâs cold hand presses over his forehead, and Thomas settles down. Now that he thinks about it, a distraction does sound good right about now. âThe hare was boisterous, rushing to the finish line. He thought he could so easily defeat the tortoise. But the dear tortoise was diligent, it continued down the path at the same, steady pace. The hare, so proud, thought he could rest and still win. His ego was his downfall, and the tortoise won. The tortoise continued, in the face of everything, to prove a point. Slow and steady wins the race.â
Thomas lets his eyelids fall heavy. He can barely see Morality now. He can only just make out the curl of their hair, the blurriness of their glasses.Â
âThink of yourself like the turtle. You, little one, too shall use your tricks to succeed. You will succeed. Iâll make sure of it,â Moralityâs voice grows shaky, and Thomas watches their eyes flick around. They speak faster now, âI promise. I will always protect you. You mean more to me than anything else. Anything. You are the most important person in the world. You are my world. And I love you more than life itself. I will always keep you safe. I beg of you, little one, donât stop trusting me now.â
âI wonât,â Thomas murmurs, head far too quiet and eyes far too tired to read between the lines of Moralityâs words. Theyâre sweet, and they make him feel fluffy and cared for. And all he can do is sleep. Sleep on this bed of cotton wool and bubble wrap. Safe and guarded from the outside world.Â
Morality is gone when he wakes up.
Their next meeting is a short one. Morality seems frenzied, almost crazed this time, in a way that they never are in the evenings. Sure, when they appear during the day, theyâre a little hyperactive â but usually by sunset theyâve calmed significantly. This time, when Thomas turns over in bed, he sees Morality pacing back and forth in his room, rubbing at their left wrist furiously.Â
âMorality?â He mutters, half-asleep, and their head snaps to glare at him. The stare softens almost immediately, and they rush to his side, kneeling by the bed.Â
Their hands fan out over his sheets. âLittle one,â they breathe, âIâm so sorry.â
âHuh?âÂ
âIâm sorry,â Morality repeats, flicking their eyes over their shoulder. Thomas finds himself sleepily following their gaze. He canât see anyone. âI- I might not be able to speak with you anymore.â
âWhy not?â Thomas yawns, not quite understanding.
Morality continues in a hurry, ânot like this, at least. Iâm so sorry, dearest. I canât come to your aid anymore. Not- not like this. Not in the night,â they swallow, and itâs thick with tears, âplease forgive me.â
Thomas sniffles in response.
âYou will still see me during the day, of course. But when I- when I come to you here, late- I canât anymore,â they look behind them again and then cold hands are grabbing at Thomasâ bare arms. âPlease donât mention this to me after. Donât ask me about it. I donât- I donât tend to remember our nightly conversations when the sun is up. The others are- they donât approve of me coming to you so often. Itâs complicated. You understand, of course you do. Oh, youâre so smart, little one. You understand me. Please, tell me one thing, do you trust me?â
Thomas throws his hand out, placing it on Moralityâs left cheek. He strokes his thumb gently and smiles. What a strange dream. ââCourse I do.â
âHave you enjoyed our little nightly chats?â
âMmhm,â Thomas yawns again.Â
âThatâs all I needed to hear. You wonât see me, not for a long time. But remember I am always with you, little one. Always. I will always be here to keep you safe. I wonât let anything hurt you. I wonât. I promise.â They stand, and Thomas closes his eyes on another yawn. âI love you so much, Thomas.â
When he opens his eyes, Morality is gone, and someone is rising up in their place. Itâs the Prince. Thomas knows heâs in for a night of supremely sweet dreams.Â
He doesnât see Morality at night after that. For the first few months, itâs strange. Some nights Thomasâ room feels chillingly cold, and sometimes heâll look up and swear he sees a glimmer of glowing yellow across the room. But it always disappears as soon as his eyes focus. So he chalks it up to needing more sleep. Morality during the day remains as prevalent as ever, so Thomas doesnât really have any cause for concern. Because he trusts Morality. Morality loves him more than anything else in the world. Morality would do anything to protect him. And Thomas carries that fact with him wherever he goes.
Thomas doesnât really think about Morality anymore. Well, he does, of course, just⊠differently. He has a proper name to put to the face now. He thinks of Patton. Itâs Patton who bounds around his room during the day and retreats in the night. Heâd never really questioned why Patton stopped coming to him in the evenings. He doesnât even think about it. Why would he? Heâs met so many parts of himself since then, back when he had just Morality, Logic, and the Prince. Now he has Patton and Logan and Roman. And the others that revealed themselves along the way. He has Virgil. And, in a way, he has to have Janus and Remus. He canât get rid of them, even if he tried.Â
Itâs strange, to have more than one side in his living room without a dilemma to solve. Itâs even stranger to have one side in his bedroom. But when Thomas turns in his bed, moving to hug his pillow close to his chest, he sees them.
Patton, shrouded in shadow, yes, but undeniably Patton. Heâs hovering awkwardly in the space between the bed and the closet, eyes locked onto Thomas. His hands are clasped in front of him.Â
âPat?â Thomas manages to croak, clearing his throat. His arms are heavy with exhaustion, but they work, so he hauls himself to sit slumped against the headboard. âYou good, buddy?â
âHm?â Pattonâs infatuated stare falters, and his smile is hesitant. Something is off. The room is cold. âIâm quite alright, thank you,â he goes to fix his wrists, circles them as though to straighten something out. Thereâs nothing there to tug on.
Thomas adjusts his seating, rolling his shoulders and reaching for his bedside table to flick the lamp on. Patton stops him, icy palms halting his hand in a flash. âAre you sure..? What- what are you doing here?â
Patton swallows thickly. He seems different.Â
âI was hoping we could⊠talk. Like we used to,â he hazards. Thomas tilts his head. They talk all the time. Theyâd talked just that afternoon. Like we used to. Like they had when he was a child? âDo you remember that?â
The mattress should dip when Patton sits down, but it doesnât.
And all at once, Thomas does. He remembers. Not clearly, not really. But he remembers those cold hands, the way Morality always slowed in the evenings. Like an old dog. He nods the affirmative and blinks. Thereâs not much to say. âWhat did you want to talk about?â
Patton goes quiet. His glasses are a little blurry around the edges, his eyes a little too sharp. His cardigan remains diligently tied around his shoulders. Heâs shivering. âI missed you,â he finally says. Thomas goes to interject, they see each other all the time. âI missed you so, so much, little one. Iâm sorry I went away.â
âPat- whatâs going on?â Thereâs a bubble of anxiety squirming in Thomasâ stomach, and god, Virgil must be able to feel it too.Â
Patton smiles sadly. âI hope you kept it, all the love I have for you. I hope you kept that in your busy head, little one. I hope you never forgot how much I adore you. Please tell me you never forgot that my only desire was to keep you safe. Keep you protected.â
âPatton, Iâm confused,â Thomas gulps, âyouâre scaring me a little bit.â
âWhy?â Patton asks, his voice quavering, âthereâs nothing to be afraid of. Nothing at all.â
Thomas reaches out a bleary hand to place on Pattonâs shoulder, and he trembles at the touch. âWhy did you stop coming?â He asks, though he canât be sure why. Heâs certain Patton had told him, but he just canât remember.
Patton swallows again. âDo you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?âÂ
Of course Thomas does. He nods. Patton smiles at him.Â
âIâm the tortoise,â he hums, but itâs not melodic. Itâs nothing like Patton. Thomas doesnât know who this is, but itâs not Patton. He flinches away, and Patton chases the touch for half a second before sinking in on himself, hunched. âIâm a failed tortoise. I thought my tricks could lead me to victory. And I was wrong. Look at where itâs gotten me, little one.â
Thomas is gnawing at his lip. Heâs not sure when it started to bleed, but his mouth tastes like pennies. He takes a hand to his mouth, ready to chew, and Patton takes his hand away. Itâs rough like sandpaper, but his skin appears normal. âDonât bite,â Patton murmurs. âDo you trust me?â
âI-â Thomas isnât so sure, âof course I do.â
Patton's smile grows, but itâs not in his eyes. His eyes are wet and wide and sad. âThat means so much to me,â he confesses lowly, âyou mean so much to me, little one. I love you more than life itself, more than you could ever possibly comprehend. All Iâve ever wanted is to keep you safe. Can you see that?â
âYes,â Thomas answers quickly, heart pounding. Whatâs going on?Â
âHow do you feel about the different kinds of love, little one?â Patton asks, and it dawns on Thomas that little one shouldnât be what Patton calls him. Morality called him that, in the night, and yes, Morality is Patton. But he was (begrudgingly) Pattonâs kiddo. Only in the dark was he the little one. Only as a child. And here Patton is once again, in the dark, after all these years, still insisting that Thomas is his little one. Like he needs to be protected.
Thomas can barely keep up in a confusing conversation with the sides at the best of times. And now, sleep deprived and exhausted and befuddled, heâs following even less. âI donât understand,â he manages, voice hoarse and frightened. Something is so, so wrong.
âLove, in all its forms. Familial, and romantic, and such. I donât know how to explain the love I have for you. It runs so much deeper,â Patton sniffles, âI donât think thereâs a word for it.â
Thomas doesnât have anything to say, so he doesnât say anything at all.
âI donât know how to-â Patton draws in a shuddering breath, still holding Thomasâ hand in his own. He has both his palms around Thomasâ one, cradling him in a way. One on top, one below. A bit like a sandwich. If he wasnât so unsettled, Thomas would probably find the thought funny. âI donât know how to deal with the fact that you donât love me back.â
âOf course I love you, Pat,â Thomas insists, brows furrowing. Is that what this is about? Patton feeling unloved?
Patton shakes his head, and it looks like his glasses glitch a bit. When he blinks, once, twice in rapid succession, his eye twitches. Thomas swears he sees a flash of yellow. âNo, you donât. And I want to tell you that itâs okay. That I donât mind. That you can hate me all you want, forever, because I will always love you. I want to tell you that it doesnât hurt, that everything issss fine. But thatâs a lie even I canât tell.â
Patton twitches in place and looks away. Thomas blinks. Something clicks into place.
âJanus?âÂ
When Patton turns to look at him again, itâs not Patton at all. Thomas wants to believe he saw Patton physically change, skin rippling and changing, scales popping into place. At the same time he wants to believe there was no transformation at all. One moment Patton was there, holding his hands, and the next it was Janus in his place.Â
The gloves are cold against Thomasâ skin.Â
Janus is smiling at him. Sad and soft and worried. Thereâs something melancholic in the air. He looks afraid, distantly. His eyes are wet and wide. The yellow one glows a little. Heâs not wearing his hat. Everything is weird.
Janus doesnât say anything, just drags his thumb across Thomasâ knuckles. Thomas doesnât flinch away, he doesnât move â heâs barely even breathing. He dares not to, lest he frighten Janus off.Â
The implications begin to settle, the puzzle pieces slotting together. Thomas sucks in a deep lungful of air. He doesnât pull away. âJanusâŠâ He tries again, but comes up short when looking for the words to finish his sentence.
âDo you still trust me?âÂ
Desperation.
Silence.
âI thought as much,â Janus shakes his head and pulls his palms from Thomasâ own, coming up to cradle his face, to stroke over his scales. Thomas moves slowly to flick his lamp on, and the room is cast in a golden glow. âIâm sorry.â
It tastes strange, coming from Janusâ lips. Like nothing Thomas has ever had. Itâs not sweet, nor bitter, just new. Itâs sincere.Â
âWhy?â Thomas asks. He already knows the answer.Â
âFor deceiving you,â Janus hums, the death of a laugh hanging on his words. âFor everything. I failed you, and Iâm sorry. I couldnât keep you safe. I promised you I would, and I didnât. And you trusted me. And- And Iâm sorry.â
âJanâŠâ Thomas doesnât know what to say. Isnât that happening a lot? What is there to say?Â
âI love you so much, Thomas,â Janus rumbles, sounding blubbery and upset as well as firm. âSo much, it makes me sick. I donât understand how the others could possibly put anyone before you. I donât understand how they could ever find anything more important than you. Youâre everything to me. I love you more than life itself, and when I watch you hurting, it feels like someone is ripping my heart out of my chest.â Janus is scrambling at the front of his collar now, tearing at his capelet until it flutters off of his shoulders, wafting to the floor where it dissolves away.Â
âTruly,â Janus grimaces, âI donât understand. I donât understand what I did wrong. I know in recent years I havenât been⊠well, I havenât given a good impression. But way back⊠when I had to leave. When I stopped visiting, I donât know what I did wrong. I donât understand. I just- love you, so damn much. Little one, I donât know what to do with myself. I just- I want you to know just how much I care for you. Nothing else is more important to me.â
Thomas reaches out again, and touches Janusâ shoulder. Heâs freezing cold. âJanus, I-â He canât just keep saying the sideâs name, it isnât getting him anywhere. When Thomas swallows, he gulps back his fear. âAs a kid, at night, it was always you?â
Janus doesnât reply.
âWhy did you pretend?â
Janus scoffs. âWhy do you think? Would you listen to a snake?â He raises an eyebrow. They both know Thomas wouldnât. Thomas frowns. âI had to let you know. I had to make sure you knew. I had to tell you how deeply I care for you. I had to tell you I was always here, keeping you safe. Watching from the sidelines, staying in the shadows, protecting you.âÂ
Thomas tightens his hold around Janusâ shoulder. Heâs shaking so much, and Thomas just wants it to stop. Stop, stop being so afraid. Stop, canât you see I care about you? Stop, donât you know Iâm learning to trust you? Stop, canât you see I hear you?
âSlow and steady wins the race,â Janus murmurs, âI thought eventually, if I just kept going â if I just stayed on course, I could win. Win a seat at the table, win your trust, win your affections. I donât know what this feeling is. I just know Iâd turn the world on its axis to make you happy, and Iâd tear everyone to shreds to keep you safe.â
âYou didnât fail,â Thomas breathes, tired yet alert. Janusâ hands tremble in his lap, when did they fall there? Maybe Thomas isnât as alert as he thinks. âYou didnât,â he says in response to Janusâ sceptical look. âIâm sorry I pushed you away.â
âItâs alright,â Janus lies, âyou never have to apologise to me, for anything. I have already forgiven you. I could never truly hold anything against you, Thomas. When I knew it wasnât safe for me to continue to visit, I was perfectly contented to observe from the dark. I did all I could to protect you. A little lie here, a wash of denial there. Anything to keep you safe.â
Thomas swallows. Heâs never felt so scared. Heâs never been so loved. Sometimes love is a feeling that transcends labels. Heâs not sure he could label Janusâ sentiment if he tried. Itâs not romantic, itâs not platonic, itâs so much more than familial.Â
âI think you should sleep now,â Janus nods down towards the bed, stealing the heat from Thomasâ hand still on his shoulder. âRest will serve you well.â
Thomas listens. Itâs the least he can do, isnât it? Silently he goes, laying back in bed, sinking into his pillows. It feels like heaven. Janus touches his cheek, and it feels like being cut open. Sliced into. Itâs not an unfamiliar feeling.
Eyes closing, mind whirring, Thomas wonders how he could possibly sleep now? He has so many questions, so many things to talk about. He has so much to say, how is he meant to drift off?
âLater,â Janus murmurs, stroking through his hair. Like he can read Thomasâ mind. Maybe he can. âSleep now. We can discuss later. I promise. You trust me, donât you?â
Miraculously, Thomas says, âyes. Of course I do.â
And Janus smiles.
âI love you, Janus.â The words are slurred and dreary, thick with sleep. Maybe this has all been a dream. Janus has half a mind to mutter that it is into Thomasâ ear. A little denial never hurt anybody. Right?
Instead, Janus presses his lips to Thomasâ hairline. He starts to sink out.
âI love you so much, little one.â
And once more, the words are spoken to an unhearing room, for Thomas is already asleep.Â
