AKA gardan, kurrden, mahree, nandap or ngora, red gum, Port Gregory gum, and white-flowering bloodwood.

First described as Eucalyptus calophylla by Robert Brown in 1831, both because of the 'beautiful leaf' and because the leaf venation resembled that of the entirely unrelated Calophyllum of the tropics. In 1995 Ken Hill and Lawrie Johnson moved it and a few related eucalypts off to the new genus Corymbia.

The third dominant eucalypt in the Perth region, after Jarrah and Wandoo. It's certainly the most common large eucalypt left in reserves and suburban streets around Perth. Unfortunately, lone trees left behind after all their neighbours got cut down are quite prone to the plant pathogen Marri Canker (Quambalaria coyrecup), which causes oozing sores on the trunk and leads to a slow death for the tree. The large Marri in my front yard is so doomed.

The gum that leaks from wounds in the bark contains very high levels of tannins and was collected for tanning kangaroo hides, and as an antibiotic and dysentry medicine. The timber is used in furniture but is unsuitable for heavier construction.

The woody bell-shaped fruit - called honkey nuts - are quite large compared to most other eucalypts in Western Australia, and are a vital food source for our larger cockatoos.

రూ. 2 కోట్ల 50 లక్షలతో నిర్మించిన ఉన్నత పాఠశాల నూతన భవనాన్ని ప్రారంభించిన మాజీ ఎమ్మెల్యే మర్రి జనార్ధన్ రెడ్డి. నాగర్‌కర్నూల్ జిల్లా తాడూర్ మండలంలోని సిర్శావాడ గ్రామంలో ఎంజేఆర్ చారిటబుల్ ట్రస్ట్ ఆధ్వర్యంలో రూ.2 కోట్ల 50 లక్షలతో నిర్మించిన జిల్లా పరిషత్ ఉన్నత పాఠశాల నూతన భవనాన్ని మాజీ ఎమ్మెల్యే మర్రి జనార్ధన్ రెడ్డి ప్రారంభించారు. తాను చదువుకున్న పాఠశాలను తానే నిర్మించడం అదృష్టంగా భావిస్తున్నానని, తన చివరి శ్వాస వరకు ప్రజాసేవలోనే ఉండి రాబోయే రోజుల్లో ఇంకా చాలా సేవా కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహిస్తామని మర్రి జనార్ధన్ రెడ్డి తెలిపారు.
