Ok another appreciation post
Ok I am making my way through filmographies of some of my favorite actors and I've finally made it around to walking Broadchurch staring David Tennant and I gotta talk about it. I will be adding a spoiler warning.
Ok here's another super late night appreciation post/rant about a stunning tv show that left me thinking. I love it when shows do that! And I will say that one thing that I love is that I could not figure out the who dun it which I'm pretty good at doing when watching a detective tv show and every season I couldn't figure it out. Each season I was left speechless.
The first season, I was crushed when Jack Marshall passed and I really thought Nigel had done it. And my jaw was on the floor when it was revealed that it was Joe Miller who killed Danny. I also don't know if I love the idea of all of the main detectives in these detective shows having a physical or mental problem (Sherlock and his cocaine addiction, Bull and his heart conditions/heart attacks, not to mention all of the detectives that get shot or injured and all of the distrust and such. it just seems like an overdone trope in my opinion) but I do think they did a good job with it on this show. It was handled differently that you see on others and that's what made it work.
The second was just a whirlwind of emotions. I was livid when Joe was found innocent. He should not have gotten off and even with circumstantial evidence, I really thought they would have found new evidence that would have gotten him convicted but they never did. Now this may be a hot take but I lowkey hated Beth in this season. There are multiple cases of spouses not knowing that anything is amiss in their household. And because Ellie was working on the case, I can see why she didn't believe it was Joe. Not wanting to believe he would be so stupid as to commit a murder. I believe Beth was just spiraling and needed to take a deep breath. I was very happy when Alec survived his surgery and solved Sandbrook. He deserved the wins and I loved that for him.
Season three hit very close to home for me so many times I had to watch a couple episodes then walk away and leave it alone for a little while then coming back. I will say, this is the one season that shocked me the most in terms of who did it. I really thought it was Jim or Ian, I did not expect it to be Leo and Michael and the different layers that this case had. I was sick to my stomach at one point but at the same time, it was interesting because I believe that's a sign of a good plot twist. I also just want to say that I love how good of parents Ellie and Alec are portrayed. It made me smile when Alec defended his daughter and then tore up her ticket.
Overall, I will say that it deserves the high ratings that it has on both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. It's definitely a show I will recommend in the future to other people and multiple rewatches. The cast was stunning and the stories were great!
and what if i told you that mark latimer and alec hardy are very similar characters? what then?
Confession time: I had to have subtitles on when I watched broadchurch because I couldn't understand the accents
I miss writing for Beth and Gi. I miss the Broadchurch fandom. Anyone still about?
