A drawing collaboration of Marie Tharp, an iconic geologist and woman in STEM, whose 100th birthday was this past week! Check out Columbia Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for some more info on her accomplishments.
“Working at a time when female scientists set off reflex skepticism, Tharp drafted the first comprehensive map of the ocean floor, which led to the acceptance of the once-mocked, now fundamental theory of continental drift. Not bad for someone whose discoveries were initially dismissed as “girl talk.”” -Michael Washburn for the NY Times(x)
Original drawing by Aaron Dana (2nd pic), based off of a Library of Congress photograph of Marie (3rd pic). Done for a competition supporting a good cause run by Phoebe Cohen on twitter. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDXIPs8Hoxb/?igshid=6b8f4qx2xrts
