“You don’t get to have your way all the time, Khalida,” Coco says, not looking up from her knotwork. “Also, it helps that Fuego knows how to ask politely.”

Khalida smiles poisonously. “Look me in the eye and say that.”

Coco stops tying for a moment and sits back on her heels to meet Khalida’s gaze. But just as Khalida opens her mouth to issue a command, Coco grabs Khalida’s jaw in one hand and then slaps her smartly across the face with the other.

“Hey!” Khalida splutters– more in shock and outrage than in pain– as Coco laughs.“Want to try that again?”
