If you’re lucky enough to first experience Mardi Gras as a child then your sense of reality is forever twerked. All the grownups seem to have gone cheerfully mad. Monsters, princesses and everything in between walk past. There is music and singing and dancing for as far as the eye can see. And treasures rain from periodic fleets of lurching, bouncing galleons that float down the so very far from normal streets. A magic door has obviously been opened somewhere and you are not in Kansas anymore. And you will never completely return from this Oz of infinite possibilities. when it’s over your not a little muddled like Dorothy when she got back to her farm. you know it wasn’t just a dream. The streets are covered with jewels. The trees are heavy with strings of riches. Even in the heaviest heartbreak when New Orleans was ravaged by storms and fighting for its life The MARDI GRAS sprang out of the wreckage and brought back the joy and music and strangeness and hope.
