I love them as both!

Friends to lovers is a great trope, and just having them as best friends is also great.

In my opinion they are alot closer than most people really assume.

I mean, Trailblazer is generally a pretty polite person. They watch their words carefully, they’re occasionally teasing..

But its really only with a few people that they’re like. a very affectionate bully with.

March is included in that number, and March bullies them back, which honestly, thats genuinely such bsf behavior lmao.

I’m willing to argue that Trailblazer is also like, the most important person in March’s life. (You try and get TB to pick one person to name and they’re gonna try and fight you. They’re a greedy bastard, they have multiple most-important-people in different ways, and you cannot make them choose).

I dont know if I need to really spell it out as blatantly as I could.

Just look at Evernight.

The way she treats Trailblazer is significantly different to how she treats everyone else, and her opinions of everyone March knows is directly derived from March’s own opinions.

Evernight’s goals were ‘Keep the Astral Express safe’.. and also ‘Trailblazer stays with me.’

Partially to stop them from interfering in her plans, but also damn okay, just kidnap bro ig??

Also the ‘dear trailblazer’/my dear/dearest thing. March vocally called them that all of like once or twice. And yet. Evernight…

Theres also the fact of the matter that for awhile March & TB were like, the only two people who truly understood each other’s struggles with amnesia.

Like Dan Heng had memory issues.. but he still knew who he was, where he was from.

These two had no such thing. TB had the clue of the Stellaron Hunters. March had the clue of her ice. Thats it!

Himeko was the first one to offer them a home and a hand to take, but March is the first one to kick the door down and build a proper connection with them.

Whether they’re platonic or romantic, they’re incredibly close, and got a really strong relationship. They’re each other’s ride or die.

TB accepted Evernight’s existence so easily - both before and after the kidnapping, because of the sole fact it was March in some form, and they could at least tell that much. (And they quickly were able tell that smth was ofd about those fake-marchs too).

March similarly doesnt really care about TB’s past identity or anything. That’s her best friend, and thats all she cares about honestly.

Also they’re just an iconic duo together lmao. Its so funny when their bullying of each other gets turned on someone else.

Honestly ive kinda missed them. We havent really gotten much of them lately!

It looks like we’re getting them in 4.5, so im glad! Its about time since we got them together again. And Nihilux is gonna be involved and their dynamic with her added is great too lol.

Anyways, ive always been a big lover of Marchblazer and then like. Kafblazer, Fireblazer, and Silverblazer. Ive always been chill with Danblazer and TrailBlade (is that their name?? Or is it Bladeblazer) but i never actively shipped them.

They just dont have the same tragic connotations for me yk?? Blade and Trailblazer dont have many interactions unfortunately, and its clear Blade remembers TB barely any better than TB does him. With the other three Stellaron Hunters? Its so sad. They fucking miss the Trailblazer so much its so obvious. ‘Silver Wolf doesnt’ that motherfucker turns up EVERYWHERE if a game is involved, she canonically plays games and visits the Express to just see the Trailblazer that is HER PLAYER TWO SHE MISSES THEM. She canonically follows our journey! She canonically thinks they’ll win every time if their a team (Stellaron Hunter-Nameless Crew parallels my beloved) You can NOT convince me Silver Wolf doesnt miss or care about the Trailblazer you are just WRONG.

Do i even need to talk about Firefly and Kafka. They love the Trailblazer so much like hhhhhhshdbdsnnm. The interactions with them in the 3.0 main quest KILLED ME.

Blade just doesnt have that i fear. Maybe in the future i’ll get more attached but for now? I literally cant ship him in his current state. Idk why. I just cant.

Now. Danblazer? It’s been growing on me since 3.0. I think i started actually shipping in 3.2, because it got suitably sad with Dan Heng having to PULL THE TRAILBLAZERS DEAD BODY OUT OF THE WRECKAGE- what do you mEANNN HE GASLIT HIMSELF INTO THINKING WE WERE OKAYY. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HES WAITED A THOUSAND YEARS AUGHHHHH. Dan Heng just talk about your feelings so you stop regretting everything it is the Trailblazer they are like the poster child for change and growth. Danblazer has finally reached the Tragic Ship threshold i need to genuinely ship smth. I still dont wanna read fanfics of them tho idk why. But the arT MY GODDD 🙏

I have been a Marchblazer supporter since RELEASE. If you think theh are not tragic you have never been in an anxiety ridden codependent mess of a friendship/relationship before. ‘They arent codependent’ ur fucking wrong, these fucks are both amnesiacs who literally went on every expedition tgt they first time they separated for an expedition was caused by March literally being unable to go. They both literally consider each other home (and Dan Heng hshshshsnebd) for BOTH of them it was the other + Dan Heng that showed up and got them to keep going (The fucking parallels of the Fate quest and March’s bit in the 3.4 quest sob) that is so codependent coded. I speak from EXPERIENCE, memory issues + constant time tgt + going through the Horrors = Codependency. Its going to hurt so bad when Evernight doesnt rmb the Trailblazer sob

Let’s talk about an elephant on the Astral Express (Dan Heng/March 7th). Every fandom has that 1 “default” ship people cling to because it happens to be conveniently heteronormative and consists of the first 2 characters you meet. Just because they’re “opposites attract” on paper doesn’t mean they belong in a romance. In fact, if you really look at their dynamic (especially after March’s “Hunt” path and Evernight revelations), shipping said pair feels like a step backward for both her and Dan.

1. The “Opposites Attract” Trap

The trope is classic; stoic, traumatized scholar and bubbly, amnesiac girl. In Dan/March, this doesn’t manifest as romantic tension (more so sibling-like exhaustion). Dan Heng doesn’t look at March with “pining” eyes; he looks at her like a brother who is 1 “check out” away from a migraine. Their bickering isn’t flirtatious-it’s the functional friction of 2 people who have been stuck on a train together for too long. Forcing a romance here ruins the “found family” vibe, which is among the most sacred things the Express has.

2. The Evernight Shift Barely Changed Anything

Even after March took up the sword and we start peeling back the layers of her past (or lack thereof), the romantic chemistry didn’t magically appear. If anything, seeing March grow into a more capable version of herself only highlights how much she needs peers (not a babysitter). Dan Heng is carrying the weight of the High Elder’s sins; March is a blank slate trying to write her own future. They’re walking in completely different directions.

3. Better Suitors for March 7th

If we have to ship the pinkette mascot with someone, there are options that actually create a spark instead of a wet firework:

*The Trailblazer (Stelle/Caelus): They are among the better Express suitors for March. Why? Because they’e both “newborns” in this world. They share the trauma of not knowing their origins and are partners-in-crime who enable each other’s chaos. Whereas Dan Heng just tries to suppress it.

*Sunday: Despite the currently nascent dynamic between him and March, the potential is there. You have the ultimate symbol of “Order & Control” vs a girl who is literally defined by the “Remembrance” and chaos of being unfixed in time. The narrative friction between Sunday’s heavy, philosophical burden and March’s forced optimism is much more interesting than the “he’s quiet, she’s loud” trope with Dan.

Also, can’t the pinkette at least be paired with someone that isn’t really part of nor have a long history with the Express? Preferably those who are legal and better match her overall vibe/energy (especially in a romantic sense)?

Bottom Line: Romantically shipping Dan/March 7th is the path of least resistance. It’s safe, easy, and kind of boring. Let Danny have his peace and quiet; March can find someone who doesn’t treat her like a chore to be managed.

Why I'm Not a Fan (The “Hot Take” Conclusion)

As someone who isn’t even a huge fan of March’s “main character energy” to begin with, the ships often feel like they’re trying to make her more interesting than she actually is. If we’re going to do it, at least choose the ships that challenge her character rather than ones that just feel like a default setting.

Seriously, keep most of the Astral Express (minus certain ships) strictly platonic/familial. The “found family” is already full as it is.
