I respect your commitment to making Luce quite dislikeable in the flashbacks lol.
I wasn't prepared for how Marcey and Luce first encountered each other. They seem genuinely fond of each other at the New Year's Party, so it was surprising when their first meeting was Luce bullying her for being poor and Hispanic, and only making their mind up to have her as a roommate when they're sure this'll be a very unequal relationship.
They’re such a gigantic asshole 😭 which was fascinating for me to do as an IF author because there hardly is ever MCs who start off dick heads and the player then has a choice to begin changing them. Usually through choices a character becomes a piece of shit (immoral Crowny). It’s like you’re starting at what should be the end of a character arc which I find very tantalizing
If people like Marcela and Charley weren’t forced to spend so much time with Luce (Marcey through being desperate enough to be their roommate and Charley because it’s her job) they would’ve never wanted to see them again
But being forced to spend years with them, actually made them see a side of Luce that many don’t. They were able to see past the prickly armour they wear to realize that Luce never grew up past that day their brother died and wants so desperately to be loved and to never lose it. Which is why they try not to love anyone which they fail at. But their family’s death kind of does validate their fear that loving means losing, allowing someone close will mean they will leave you
Which is a whole can of worms the ROs will have to deal with
