When she was a baby, she loved cuddling and sleeping on daddy's chest, as Redimus' fur is warmer and more comfortable than Marakeen's. However, she'd start to cry if he or anyone else tried to move her, which meant Redimus had to lie down for hours until she got bored or hungry, whatever happened first.

I know I haven't finished The Little Beastie, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to share a sneakpeak of the sequel featuring Redimus and Marakeen. PS. I haven't thought of a title for the fic yet, so suggestions are welcome XD.
@dracocheesecake @skysiren41 @faithisthedoctor I hope you enjoy it!
â*O*â
The first thing Redimus sees when he wakes up every morning is Marakeen, laid next to him, snuggled into his embrace. Heâd playfully nuzzle her awake, sheâd try to go back to sleep, and then theyâd leave bed together. Today, he found himself alone again. Sighing, Redimus got off the bed and went downstairs to the kitchen on the ground floor. As he suspected, Marakeen was at the table, having her early cup of velvet berries. Her lower arms rested on her round belly, as usual these past few months.
âGood morning, sleepyhead.â She greeted.Â
âGood morning, Mar.â Redimus approached to rub noses with his mate. âYou could have woken me up for your tea, love.âÂ
âI thought you needed some rest. Youâve been working too hard these past months.âÂ
âMaybe, but you should be in bed. The healer saidâŚâ
â⌠I shouldnât push myself too hard.â Marakeen huffed and took a sip of tea. âIâm gravid, not broken, you know.âÂ
Redimus chuckled. âCome on, you canât deny that going all the way upstairs back to our bedroom in your estate is a pain.âÂ
âNot really. Getting caught in and swimming out of an underwater current is far more exhausting.â Marakeen pointed out.Â
She winced and quickly placed her upper left hand on her baby bump.
âAre you alright?â Redimus asked.Â
âJust a very strong and painful kick.â Marakeen laughed. âYou know how the pup gets when he hears your voice.âÂ
Smiling, Redimus knelt in front of his wife and stroked her belly as their unborn child delivered another kick. âJust a few more weeks till we meet, little one.â
âMore than enough time to finish the last touches to the nursery.â
âI can carry you there, love.âÂ
âReally, Red, I can go up there myself.âÂ
âAlright, alright.â Redimus got back on his feet. âAny cravings for breakfast today?âÂ
âDo we still have some of the meat Besteel sent?âÂ
Redimus chuckled. âIâll check, love.âÂ
He peeked into their pantry. Unlike most sea Dorcean homes, it contained proteins and ingredients more commonly found and used by the forest tribesâcourtesy of his brother ever since Marakeenâs cravings started. Redimus couldnât help but wonder if it was a sign their baby might have more traits from his side.Â
âIâm afraid weâve run out of waterbear, but we still have rollybugs and some sevenue cake.âÂ
Marakeenâs eyes lit up at the mention of the sevenue cake. âSounds nice!âÂ
Redimus picked a big rollybug and some leftover tkila, heated them over the stove, and brought them to the table. He couldnât help but chuckle as Marakeen dug into the rollybugâs meat, remembering how she wouldnât even look at them a year ago.Â
âI never knew they were so juicy!â Marakeen said, licking some leftover juice from her lips.Â
âTheyâre even juicier if you steam them.â Redimus took a big bite of his daok. âThe Shomâur and Onâdu tribes know more ways to cook them.âÂ
âOnâdu⌠Arenât they the ones that hunt the venomous flying creature from the desert?â
âYes. The silensting. Its distilled venom is one of the major ingredients in skelemend.âÂ
He noticed Marakeen shuddering. âNo wonder it tastes so awful.âÂ
After breakfast, they went to the nursery on the second floor, right beneath their bedroom. So far, the walls had been adorned with paintingsâa few were still in the sketch phase, yet to be covered in paint. Different toys, presents from Marakeenâs parents, Redimusâ old crew, Besteel, Rovender, and even Eva, decorated the many shelves on the wall. And right in the middle was an egg-shaped, wooden bassinet carved from makabe woodâthe same used for Dorcean sailboats.Â
Redimus had always been a perfectionist for art, just like Mother. Theyâd both liked to capture the beauty of detail in their drawings, much unlike Besteel and Fatherâs more rough, practical, quick sketches. He was pouring his two hearts into the wall paintings. He wanted his son or daughter to dream with the stories on the walls, the mammusk migrations, the coral reefs full of life, both his and Marakeenâs peoples.Â
As he worked on the walls, heâd occasionally glance back at Marakeen as she worked on the babyâs blankie. Rather than using her shed fur, like forest Dorceans did, she used a thick, white thread made from garrek to knit.
âWe should start thinking about the name.â Marakeen pointed out.
âAnything in mind?â Redimus inquired.Â
âI do, actually. Do you remember the hu-man myth about shapeshifting sea mammals that turned into women?âÂ
Redimus chuckled. Marakeen simply loved hu-man myths, especially those that involved the sea. Admittedly, he found most of them interesting, but the one she was referring to was admittedly⌠bizarre.Â
âCome on, Mar, do you really want to name the baby after a myth where the hu-mans practically fornicate with an animal?âÂ
âYouâre sounding like Besteel.â Marakeen huffed.Â
Redimus decided not to keep arguing about it. âI admit it sounds better than Sairen.âÂ
âDork.â Marakeen eyed the latest painting, depicting a flying creature and a few hunters chasing after it. âThat oneâs colorful. What is it about?âÂ
âItâs a story my mother told me about how she and my father met. A wild glidewing flew off with the Anârak chieftainâs tent during the Forest Games. Its recovery became an open challenge; while many went out, only Mother, Father, and Volron made it first to the nest. While Father and Volron were arguing over how to retrieve the tent, Mother snuck past the glidewing and ran off with the tent.â Redimus stiffed back a laugh. âI remember sheâd tease Father about it sometimes.â
âIt sounds like he did play a part, at least.â Marakeen did giggle. âI think Iâve heard of the Forest Games. Theyâre an inter-tribal competition, right?â
âThatâs right. Itâs of the only two times that the Forest tribes come together; thereâs music, food, stories, and competitions.â Redimus added some finishing touches to his motherâs figure. âOur parents took Besteel and I when we were cubs, and when we grew up, Besteel would participate.âÂ
âLet me guess, he won at everything.âÂ
âYou could say so. He was the reigning Harkânen champion.âÂ
Sometimes, Selkie asks Redimus about her grandpa from his side. Surprisingly, he did tell her about Vamphyrâbut only the good memories, however few they were. She wouldn't learn about how her paternal grandfather was actually like until she was much older.
I think Vamphyr would've loved Marakeen and Selkie. Even if he did have reservations about his younger son taking a sea Dorcean for a wife, he'd keep it to himself. He would've been happy that his son found a woman who loved him for who he was, especially after what happened with Irkana.
While Selkie's childhood was relatively happy, her status as a half-breed made it... difficult to fit in. Unlike her younger siblings, she had mixed traits from both sides of her family; she couldn't swim as good as sea Dorceans, and she couldn't climb trees or smell as well as forest Dorceans. Some kids from both sides picked on her because of this.
Redimus was her anchor in all of this. After all, he understood too well what it's like not to fit in. He comforted her when other kids made fun of her (or stood up for her directly if he happened to be nearby) and found a way to include her in activities.
There was one time when the Ka'rao tribe (Marakeen's tribe) held an annual competition for young pups to show their swimming skills. Against the elders' advice, Selkie wanted to take part, even though she wasn't a good swimmer. Redimus and Marakeen helped her practice for days, until she could stay afloat and swim. Despite her best efforts, Selkie came at last place, but Redimus assured her that what matters is that she did her best.
How would Redimus react if Marakeen told him she and some fellow hunters were planning to hunt a kaigan shark?
Oh, heâd be TERRIFIED that something might happen to her. Heâs heard stories of those hunts going awry, and the consequences: gruesome scars and missing limbs at best, or death at worst.
Heâd âsubtlyâ try to convince her to change her mind.

Where did Redimus and Marakeen meet? Was it on either one's homeland or somewhere in between like a trading port or the general wild lands?
They meet in Marakeenâs home village of Nalavega. Redimus had accompanied Besteel to a diplomatic trip to negotiate a trading deal, as the Anârak tribe needed certain materials to rebuild Tergaron, which sea Dorceans mastered more than their forest cousins.
Redimus saw Marakeen coming out of the water, and was instantly smitten. However, he was too shy to talk to her, mostly due to his previous experience with Irkana. Besteel eventually gave him a little pushâliterally pushed him into the shallow water, but Redimus didnât know that and flailed in the water until Marakeen came to the ârescueâ.
How did Besteel feel about Redimus moving in with Marakeen in her people's home, since it meant his brother chose to live away from him and Fayluna in a really far-off corner of Orbona?
Well, Nalavega wasnât in a far-off corner, though itâs still a good distance away from the rebuilt Tergaron. Itâs a coastal village located in what was once La Jolla, San Diego.
Besteel would have mixed feelings. On one hand, heâd be sad that his only brother is moving farther away, and the visits would be less frequent; but on the other hand, heâd be happy that Redimus finally found happiness with a good woman who truly loved him, and a community that accepted him for who he was.
@dracocheesecake @faithisthedoctor Now that weâre on a Redimus streak, hereâs a headcanon of him.
After the menagerie incident, he didnât just leave alcoholic spirits forever. He kinda developed a sort of⌠phobia for them. Like, everytime someone offered him a drink, heâd flashback to the night of the menagerie massacre and have a mild panic attack in a PTSD way.
Marakeen noticed it during one of their dates, after her brother offered him a glass of usquebaugh. It was at this point that Redimus confessed what heâd done, and admitted that when he gets drunk heâs⌠a completely different person.
He was afraid this would push Marakeen away, but it didnât. She didnât judge him. She comforted him, accepted the darker parts of him, even admitting that sheâs got demons of her own.
