certified marauders incident i fear
if you saw this post about marauders characters and their wands, this is the post I was referring to in James' section.
I think James' wand core being a Unicorn Hair is significant because that's why he didn't have his wand while facing Voldemort.
While he could have just been in such a rush to get Lily and Harry to safety that he forgets/doesn't have the chance to get his wand. But, still I feel that's something you don't have that far away from you, especially when you are in hiding because somebody wants to kill you and your family. So what if it wasn't out of reach but instead wasn't working at all.
One problem with Unicorn Hair as a wand core is that it can be tarnished and needs replacing over time (look at Ron's 1st wand for example). Maybe, while in hiding, James' wand core breaks and needs to be replaced but he can't (cause yk...their in hiding). And maybe he's been learning some wandless magic but nothing too advanced. It's not like he can use Lily's wand (Look to linked post above for reason) so he's kind of just left magic-less for the time being. And that's not really a problem until Halloween night when the wards tell him someone unknown is coming to the house and he assumes the worst. Tells Lily to run upstairs with Harry. He has no wand to fight with, the broken core has rendered it useless and more of a hazard than anything else, but hopefully he can at least put distance between the intruders and his family. The door opens, and for a moment, he thinks he's fine. Peter was the one in front of the door. But what about the wards? James looks just past his oldest friend and sees the scarily pale face of Voldemort. Before he can speak, James vision fills with green, then nothing at all...
SO as far as I know, none of the Marauders-era characters have official official wands (and if they do, no they don't shh) so I put some thought into it and here is what I think what wands people have.
James- Wood: Ebony (Good for dueling and Transfiguration), Core: Unicorn Hair (View later post for why I think this is important), Length: 12 inches, and slightly rigid.
Lily- Wood: Hornbeam (Extremely loyal to their masters; will never take another), Core: Phoenix Feather, Length: 12 inches, and very flexible.
Sirius- Wood: Blackhorn (Performs well for fighters), Core: Dragon Heartstring, Length: 9 & 1/2 inches*, and mildly flexible.
Remus(yes ik he has an official wand shhh)- Wood: Black Walnut (Seeks out mindful masters), Core: Unicorn Hair, Length: 13 & 3/4 inches, and flexible.
Peter- Wood: Larch (Makes owners more self-assured), Core: Dragon Heartstring, Length: 10 & 1/2 inches, and rigid.
Regulus- Wood: Yew (Powerful for dueling), Core: Dragon Heartstring, Length: 9 & 1/3 inches*, and flexible.
Barty Crouch Jr.- Wood: Hazel (Not recommended for temperamental people), Core: Unicorn Hair, Length: 11 inches, and mildly rigid.
Lowkey know that lots of marauders characters don't have official wands but this is all I got for now :\
*I personally hc that the Black Family seemingly always has shorter wands. They will always get chosen by a shorter wand, and if they try to use a longer one, it will always backfire.

I saw this on pinterest and all I can think about is war time marauders valkyries and emeralds choosing to stay together trusting each other and fighting for the happy ending they deserve.
Omg fanfic writers really need to control themselves. I recently stumbled upon one fic in which James and Lily died and Sirius was blamed for it like what? And that's not even the end of it.. Remus was left all alone because everyone in the friend group died??? Are you high? Remus? My baby Remus who is happily married to Sirius and just adopted a babygirl Remus?
