This is a video detailing many ways to make homemade squishies or modify storebought ones. The DIY foam-casting and mochi/silicone squishies require specialist chemicals to make and won’t be accessible for many stimmers, but there’s other tips here that may be relevant.

(What she calls “mixed material” squishies are more often referred to as “jelly squishies”.)

I will note that I disagree with some of the content in this video:

First, foam squishies can be washed, although paint finishes will be damaged--you just have to squeeze the squishy thoroughly to get the water out, like a sponge, and leave it to drain for several days (so it doesn’t mould). It isn’t a harmless method, but it can be done if needed.

Second, use fabric glue, not PVA glue, to mend torn squishies. PVA glue dries hard and it peels away from the squishy; fabric glue dries soft. PVA glue works, but it isn’t any kind of permanent fix.

Third, I’m also yet to find any type of paint, when painted over a commercial foam squishy, that holds up under a stimmer’s usage: they all crack, split and peel under daily, repeated squishing. The acrylic-and-PVA mix also doesn’t work well for stimmer usage on a DIY sponge squishy, as it also splits and cracks. (Fabric paint does work brilliantly on a DIY sponge squishy, though.) If you’re a stimmer who uses squishies a lot, I don’t recommend painting your commercial foam squishies with fabric paints, because all of mine have cracked and split. It just isn’t worth the cost of the paint--buy a new squishy instead.

(There’s a lot of squishy redecoration/repaint videos on YouTube, and the squishies look great while squished on camera, but I doubt that they’re used as constantly or regularly as a stimmer uses squishes.)
