In celebration of what would have been my granny’s 112th birthday today, several of my older cousins were sharing some of her favorite quotes and talents.
Some of my favorite memories were of her banging out Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer (that song from The Sting)on her piano. So, I was delighted to find out today that ragtime was her favorite genre to play on the piano and that she called Scott Joplin “Rag Daddy.” When she’d play his songs, she’d refer to them as her “Rag Daddy music.”
The other thing I learned? She could play a song after hearing it a few times. Definitely wish that skill had passed down to me.
