It was made to available commercially for every one can use and this new interactive maps have lots of applications apply to our daily life nowadays. It have interactive display data from different sources that can be integrated and the time can be incorporated as well. The google map and google earth allowed us recoded places we been through and people can able to tracked places that others’ traveled on the virtual map. It is known as open source software where it helps us explores and gets updates from things happening around. For example, there is an app called “Waze” where you can get updates from users of the apps to track the traffic or cops. This practice also known as crowdsourcing; it is a form of emergent collaboration in which multiple people work on it. Another best know example that author mentioned in the article is Wikimapia, where people can add their own place on maps. This is called the map mashup that allowed you to combine address and pictures, different sources of data into one integrated spatial display.
The concepts related to this cartography topic is information and interactivity . I think this creation of these maps has both advantages and disadvantages to our lives nowadays. It helps us a lot with navigation or gets connected from others people through crowdsourcing practices. It gives us lots of information for navigation as well as lots of information needed to create this digital map. However, it makes us more reliable on the digital maps and less interactive with the traditional way that we used to figure out directions with paper maps. Also, from lots of information it provided us for navigation; yet it could tracked us from those information it provided. Even though these digital maps make us less interactive and more depend on it, yet I believe it is more safety and convenience for our life.
