The great war that it was... 1891, the time when Major General Paona Brajabashi, one of the great warriors of Manipur proved his valor against the superior might of the invading British Army. Around 36kms from Imphal, bang on the Indo-Myanmar highway lies the Kheba hill. And the mighty gate of The Khongjom War Memorial is hard to miss. The beautiful memorial at the top of the hillock is a must visit! Not just for the view... but also out of respect for the bravery shown by those fearless men! This memorial had been long overdue. It was the foot of this hillock where these brave young men laid down their lives defending their motherland from the hands of the British till their last breath! 27th April is celebrated as Khongjom day in their memory! The day when the fierce battle ended with the loss of life of the young men defending their motherland.
