Where the City Glows — New York, USA

New York has an energy that’s impossible to replicate. The moment the skyline comes into view, lit by the last traces of sunset, you feel it; that pulse that keeps the city alive long after the sun goes down. Standing by the bridge, I watched the lights flicker on one by one, like stars finding their place among the skyscrapers.

There’s something beautiful about the chaos here. The constant movement, the hum of taxis, and the river reflecting it all, it’s noisy, yet somehow calming. Every corner tells a story: the laughter of people walking home, the music spilling from open windows, the way the air feels charged with possibility.

New York reminded me that peace doesn’t always mean quiet. Sometimes, it’s found in motion... in the rhythm of footsteps, city lights, and dreams that never sleep.

Pebble Beach

Here we look over Pebble Beach which is located in Main Street Park, Brooklyn. The 80-floor One Manhattan Square building chews up the scenery here with the Manhattan Bridge in the foreground.

In the distance one can see Confucius Plaza in the Bowery which used to be the tall building in these parts when I lived here.

Manhattan Bridge

The east tower is seen here from Main Street Park in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The bridge opened to traffic on the last day of 1909. Street cars began crossing in 1912 and subway trains in 1915.

Way back in the mid 1980s, when I was a student at Pratt Institute, some buddies and myself climbed to the top of this structure, 336 feet above the East River. We even climbed into one of those decorative bulbs at the very top. One can go here to see some rough images, taken with analog film and flash. The foolish things one does when one is young—unbelievable.
