The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest on Earth, stretching across India and Bangladesh in the Ganga–Brahmaputra–Meghna Delta. More than just a forest, it is a living shield that protects millions of people from cyclones, tidal surges, and coastal erosion while supporting an incredible variety of wildlife.

Recently, the Sundarbans has been in the news after the Border Security Force (BSF) proposed constructing physical and flood-lit fencing along sections of the India–Bangladesh border. While the proposal aims to strengthen border security and curb illegal activities, conservationists have raised concerns about its impact on wildlife movement, mangrove habitats, and local communities.
