When we came home from vacation, we could see that Jefferson had something wrong with his butt. As it turned out, he had a follow up appointment today with the veterinary specialist that we have been seeing for his lungs.

They’re not totally sure, but it is clearly some sort of tumor, rapidly growing and encircling his anus.

Next step is a biopsy, first thing tomorrow morning. Once they know what it is, they can come up with an action plan.

It’s possible that I am simply wasting my money. But I need to know that I did what I could to save him, same as I have been doing this whole time.

It’s highly likely that there’s nothing they can do. As a matter of fact, it’s entirely possible that no matter what it turns out to be, there won’t be any reasonable solution.

Have I mentioned that back in January, we adopted a hospice dog? His name is Jefferson and he’s a maltepoo.

He’s estimated to be at least ten to twelve years old and has a variety of medical issues. He came in with pneumonia and the rescue didn’t think he’d last even a month.

And yet, here we are in October and he’s still hanging in there. Granted, I took him straight to a fantastic vet and got him on all the right medications. It was the least I could do.

He’s such a sweet boy and so easy to care for. He just wants to be wherever I am at all times. He’s happiest when he’s on my lap or right next to me on the sofa.
