And not just for the topical and all too horridly relevant to real life stuff. It intersects neatly with other fandom interests and allows to dabble with 'what if the USA became the Imperium of Man for at least a time.' In the actual Season 11 Malloy has no political party or real background, but I essentially base him on Jake Featherston from Harry Turtledove's Timeline-191, an American Hitler-Pol Pot mashup from an alternate history series where the Confederacy wins the war.

And part of what also makes this work is why the Seasons 7-10 background is as important as it is, and it also brings the Initiative into relevance and in a standard fascist hypocrisy Malloy greenlighting the Pandora Project in a very different vein shows that it's basically "I'm built different" in his own mind.

In most of his variants he's from Missouri, in my 'Seasons 8-12 if I'dve written them' series he's from Virginia and the most blatant Featherston expy of them all. However he takes his first name and middle name from a Heinlein villain who basically has a lot of similar ground to the Handmaid's Tale.

In the Buffyverse from Seasons 7-10 in what's the current canon until the new series establishes the new one, you have the entire framework for a Malloy-like figure to show up because it turns out that the government had two conspiracies seeking to weaponize actual monsters and horrors they kept secret. You have L.A. vanish, the rise of global Slayers, a Slayer organization that is a very realistic depiction of a superhero organization and thus falls apart fairly swiftly and unleashes dangerous figures across the world.

A demagogue reliant on an Imperium of Man 'behold the glorious human form' human supremacy steamrolling his way to an American fascism targeting actual literal demons that want to eat you would also serve as a nod to the other element that influenced Buffy the entire time. X-Men (just ask Willow "Dark Phoenix" Rosenberg, LOL). Nehemiah Scudder Malloy is Bolivar Trask, Henry Peter Geyrich (even if Malloy sometimes has a Himmler figure given the name shout out in another Buffy nod to Marvel comics), and Graydon Creed in relative roles here.
