âWhat are you doing in my room?â

No. 21. âYou willing to commit a couple misdemeanors for me?â
She wasnât entirely sure why she had decided to even climb into his room in the first place. All she knew was that she was drunk, and she wanted someone else to join her in whatever it was that she was planning on doing.
An innocent smile flickered across her lips before she spoke, voice probably much louder than necessarily.    âYou willing to commit a couple misdemeanors      for me, Malark?â

âFirst part of the plan is, since I outrank you, Iâm your commanding officer and youâre just gonna have to do as I say, Malarkey.â Ashley hissed under his breath, his eyes fixated on the Germans seated next to the truck. âAnd for now, I say trust me. Can you do that? I studied German for four yearsâone of them has to take a piss.â As if on cue, the soldier that had been dealing the other two cards stood up and started walking the opposite direction toward the tree.Â
âI reckon we can take them both if we do it real quiet like, understand?â It was a daring plan, just jumping them just like that, but at the moment it was the only plan Ashley had. At least, while the other one was relieving himself, they werenât outnumbered. Of course, he only had a pistol, but before he left for school he was the best shot in Clayton County, and heâd done well in basicâtheyâd ended up making him a flying coffin pilot anyway, but he could shoot well enough when he had to.
âOkay, plan is we take âem out and then make sure their friend doesnât sound the alarm. Any objections?â
{ malarkeydonald liked this for a starter }
Babe had been napping peacefully in his foxhole.. Perhaps he shouldnât have been, because when he was disturbed by footsteps behind him, he nearly jumped out of his own skin..
Turning quickly, eyes still heavy as they struggled to adjust to the darkness around them and at the same time find the source of the footsteps.. Finally after a few seconds of silent uncertainty to whether or not he should do something, he could see the face of the other.. And thank goodness it was a familiar, and friendly, face..
A relieved yet at the same time irritated sigh escaped his lips as he turned around once more, settling himself back into the hole in the ground..The foxhole wasnât too big, it had enough room to fit a few people.. Maybe three at most..
âChrist Malark, you scared the shit outta me.. I was sleeping..â
" And now is the part where we say goodbye."
Angst Starters
It hadbeen fun, more fun than Eloise could have ever imagined, but all goodthings must come to an end, at least that was what someone importanthad said once. She didnât think it would have been so soon, in factshe didnât think at all.
Theyhad been waiting for orders for what felt like months, though it hadonly been weeks, and they had grown fairly close in the time theywere together, hanging around, causing trouble, introducing hisfriends to her, and vice versa, it had been fun and games most of thetime, with a lot of drunken nights and a lot of drunken pranks thatinvolved days that were not so much fun. But even still, to Eloise, the nurse who had somehow managed to get in with a few men within theparatroopers, specifically the 506 that had become the brothers shenever had and the friends she never expected.
DonaldMalarkey, her Leprechaun, her Lucy Charm, her Helga, along with anyother name she happened to call him, had become someone she reliedupon to get her out of her mundane routine of being a nurse and beingbored. Of course, they were always awaiting orders before they movedon, though nobody ever mentioned it or spoke of it.
Now,that rainy Wednesday morning, it seemed the orders were no longersomething in the back of their minds, but rather something that wasslapping them in the face. Eloise had worked almost all through thenight packing up supplies and tentns, loading them into trucks thatwould soon head out towards a small village where theyâd set up a newevacuation hospital, Malarkey and his fellow soldiers heading theother way, towards war.
It wascold, dreary, and depressing, and it was only fitting that everyonewas abandoning the makeshift HQ, leaving it to turn into nothing buta desolate bunch of buildings that were either going to go to turninto rubble or someone was going to make use out of them. It didnâtreally matter, not now anyways, not as Eloise grunted as she loadedup a large wooden footlocker containing random odds and ends thatwould be needed in the new hospital miles upon miles away from whereher friends would be fighting.
Sighingout, feeling her back ache from all the heavy lifting for almosttwelve plus hours, she felt her hands starting to feel sore, blistersforming from her skin being perpetually pinched by wooden crates andboxes. A sweat was breaking out on her forehead by the time the rainstarted and she was glad for it, although she had not been preparedfor the chilly front that came in with it.
âNo,no,â Eloise said as she stood back from the back of the truck, waving a hand at the two medics inside. âPush it towards the seat,we can have something to put out feet on at least and not be toocramped.â Biting her lower lip, the followed directions and shesighed, looking around as she watched soldiers doing the same thing, though their supplies were guns and ammo. A grin crossed her facemomentarily as she saw a few familiar faces, though none paid anyattention to her.
âAlright,I think that is it,â a man said within the truck, jumping out andclosing the hatch, brushing off his hands on his pants. âWe areready to take off.â
âWeârenurses, medic, not pilots. Weâre in for a long and bumpy ride!âElle laughed as she pulled her cap from out of her back pocket, unfolding it and pulling it on over her mess brunette knot layingagainst the back of her neck. As she adjusted it, she slit her eyesagainst the rain, but mostly slitting her eyes as a man jogging herway in a jacket and his khaki uniform. The closer they got the moresharp his features became and she suddenly found herself smiling.
âMalarkey,âshe said lowly, wanting to call him Helga, but with all the uniformedofficials around she had to keep professional, which was why shesaluted him. âYou heading out soon?â The Brunette lieutenantquestioned, to which the answered just how she thought.
Whileshe knew they both were leaving, the reality hadnât sunk in, not evenwhen she saw both units packing their belongings in their ownrespective vehicles. However, standing in front of him, with thedrizzle of the cold rain coming down on them and the ominous skyhovering, along with the truth, it sank in so deep that she washaving a hard time keeping a grin on her face and a conversationgoing.
Whatwas one to say? See you soon? Good luck? Catch ya on the flip side? This was war, things werenât so simple.
Clearningher throat, Eloise looked down to their boots that were peppered withspots of water from the rain, she was trying to say goodbye, but shehonestly didnât want to. She could easily write him a letter, knowingwho he was stationed with, but that mightâve been too much, or tooforward. Besides, what would people say if a CO was writing a NCO?Both could get into trouble, or at least be poked fun at â not thatEloise cared much since poking fun at people was her forte.
Shewas sad. She hated knowing that, hated that feeling, but what wasworse was the fact that she felt afraid. Not for her, but for him andhis men. Furrowing her brow to keep out the drizzling rain, and tomaybe keep any tears that might form at bay, she nodded, looking athim.
âDonâtgo sneaking into any vents without me, okay?â Elle was terrible atgoodbyes, especially since she had never really said one properbefore. To her misfortune, Malarkey did it for her.
âAndnow is the part where we say goodbye.âDamn him and his honesty! But damn him in general for having stumbledinto her life and making it better. Scrunching her nose, she lookedaway, fighting it, fighting the sadness, and she nodded and sniffed, looking to her shoes shyly then back to him after she felt strongenough to do so, especially when she heard someone from far offcalling out for him.
Lickingher lips, she met his eyes and stood at attention, saluting him, herchin quiver as she did so, all the while screaming to stop actinglike such a goddamn girl in her mind.
âSoldier,âshe said before dropping her arm and relaxing. âBetter go, yourgirlfriend Skip is hollering for you!â Smiling, she nodded oncemore and turned on her heel, moving towards the truck that had beenstarted.
Turningaround, walking backwards, she called out, âHey! Malark!â Eloisewatched the man and she smiled.
âDonâtforget me when youâre snuggled up next to Skip, huh?â

âDonât be alarmed, but I may have just run a guy over.â ((violence & death meme))
Violence & Death
âHuh?â Eloisefelt the cigarette in between her lips fall to the ground, luckily ithadnât been lit so she didnât waste anything, which was why she wasquick to swoop it up as she slit her eyes against the sun, staring atthe man who stood before her quite calmly, expressing that sheshouldnât be alarmedâŠthen mentioned he ran over someone.
âYouâre shittingme, right?â Eloise and Helga had been known to tease each other inthe past, had gotten into some pretty hairy sitautions, but this?Running someone over? That had yet to be marked off their bucket listof crazy tthings to do while they had the chance before they weresent their separate ways to war.
Looking over hisshoulder, followed by looking around, she saw nothing of importanceexcept military issued jeeps, a motorcycle with a side car, no personwith road rash running to get help screaming about vengeance or beinghit.
âWhere was this?Wait, you know what, where the hell did you go, Helga? Why the hellwasnât I invited? We couldâve done something amazing! We couldâve runsomeone overâŠtogether! You know what? No, no, no! YouâŠno!âEloise shook her head as she shoved the cigarette in her mouth, goingback to lit it and inhale deeply as a nice cool breeze swept by thepair.
As she exhaled, shedid a once over of the man, noticing that he did have a concernedlook, but it wasnât so bad that he appeared to be in panic. Maybe hewasnât serious. Then again, what if he was?
âIâm not evengoing to listen to you right now, I am so mad at you. You promisedweâd go out riding on the motorcycle together and look what happened. You did a hit and run. Had I been with you, we wouldâve done theright thing!â Blowing out the line of smoke she looked at the redhaired man and shook her head in disappointment.
âWe wouldâve hidhim in the woods and pretended this never happened.â
