Happy pride month everyone! Sorry for being less active but I promise my ship fixation hasn't gone anywhere lol
Idiot that falls in love for the first time ever and turns from a bastard into a complete mush, but just for their crush and nobody else. It doesn't come naturally for them, they have NO idea what are they doing, yet they're trying their best and the contrast is almost comedic if it wasn't sweet. Regardless how mean or insufferable they get, their mind can't wait until they can get home.
That's it that's the post
Patapon trilogy spoilers! Angst warning

And I keep on thinking
Imagine Makoton who is essentially a converted bastard. He had all this bitterness and lack of solidarity that defines the zigoton army. If anything, his cruelty is the default that most soldiers carry. Nothing special in this regard.
However, what would make him differ is the willingness to work on himself. It goes against his very nature to consider others, or slow down when he starts to spiral in fury, yet he tries anyway because he cares for once. Doesn't mean it will always work, but the effort is there. And Aiton sees it rather than being just reassured with words.
It's awkward, his brain stutters because for the first time words matter when there's nothing else to offer in the desert. He may still deliver his efforts with a gruff, defensive attitude, but he learns to let pettier things go, take Aiton into account of his plans and maybe even drag them along into his shenanigans if need be. He may not even realize that he's adjusting, Ai simply feels safe in a way that hijacks his usual ways.
For the first time he gets to socialize without feeling threatened or forced to retreat into the mean spirited soldier mask, and this uncovers the soft side of him he didn't even know he's had this entire time.
Potential Patapon spoilers, themes of grief, angst, emotional abuse below. Proceed with caution
Funny how we don't get to meet most demons the zigotons sold their souls for. But we can assume most were just power hungry so it didn't really matter who lended their powers to target Patapons..
Besides Ghoul Gate Babaan.
For some reason, out of every single person in the army who agreed to Queen Kharma's proposition (or was forced to), this demon got a whole separate level, which I find really interesting. There's probably something that separates it from others, but what could it be?
In my eyes, it's a siren. The kind of demon that jiggles keys in front of their victims and hope they fall for it. And, well, Makoton has a very obvious weak spot.
After General Gong fell, there was nobody else left to keep him in line with his grief that was eating him alive. One of the strongest soldiers in the empire, with an open wound you could easily weaponise. What more could you ask for?
I really think other demons also attempted to target Makoton, while Gong was still alive. But one mistake they've made, is assume he would be loyal to them right away, over Aiton. What did Babaan do different, then?
It didn't fight it. It worked with it.
Possibly impersonating Ai, possibly gaslighting Makoton that surely he's out there somewhere, all he has to do is get strong enough to reunite with him. Isolating him and making his hurt a hundred times worse with giving him hope he's still there, because being blinded with revenge makes him overlook all the demon signs Gong taught him.
The worst part? Scorpiton did realize he was being played at the very end.
Going into this again. Imagine trying so damn hard to fix something, just to realize in your last moments it was all a charade. Especially as he says it after Babaan died, so any comforting illusions it gave to Scorpiton went down with it. It's heartbreaking, really.
Makoton wanted to be strong, but more than anything he wanted to be strong enough to avenge Ai. To prove his death wasn't meaningless. And Babaan took advantage of that.
